Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting

Bassassin

Westone Thunder 1A just popped up, starting bid £75 and £4.99 postage - listed under 'vintage electric guitars' rather than basses so it may miss a lot of searches and end up a massive bargain.

I'm sure there's a man in Edinburgh knows just how to sort a meddled bass

Not for me because a/ it's more than twice what I'd pay, & b/ I've recently moved to a smaller gaff & can't move for unsold basses, guitars & music gear... So no new gear for me for a while. Unless a £50 Balogh Odyssey turns up...

Anyway, looks quite nice, I think it's a post '76(ish) Matsumoku judging from the smooth headstock shape, & it probably would've originally had an 8-pole Maxon single-coil in the bridge position. I think both pickups have been replaced - the old Maxon Mudbucker-alikes are narrower & squarer than the neck unit on this. It looks like whoever's fitted the new pups has made slightly shonky-looking mounting plates to cover the original routes & screwholes.

J.

Ibanez Roadstar II A quick google seems to support it being an RB950.

Looks a bit odd to me as the headstock says classic Ibanez to me, while the body looks more modern. But I'm sure I could get used to it. Surely it's worth more than the starting price, and will sell.

Westone Thunder 1A just listed, collection only SE London. Currently at £10.50, looks a bit scruffy but probably end up being a bargain.

I can't believe that my ridiculous lowball bid is currently winning.

Good luck! You never quite know with eBay how it will pan out. I've made a couple of good buys recently with low bids. One was a bass, one was a 'beer fridge' that I want to use in my greenhouse to keep seeds in - not sure my kitchen fridge is the best place for the seeds I collect... got that for 99p.

Got it for £120 :) Seems to be about right? Never played one, but heard good things!

The prices vary quite a lot. But, that's a good price. Not gobsmackingly low, as they very occasionally don't make £100. But on the other hand they sometimes go for £160 or so.

I saw a thread on here where one was sold for around £150, so that was my guide price. I think having cheap postage made it appeal to a few more bidders, but hey - I'm happy!

Yes, I would be too. I bought one a year or so back (for more than £120) and in the same week I also bought a JV0 Squier Precision (for considerably more than £120). I actually had a bigger smile on my face when I picked up and played the Thunder. Not saying it is a better bass - of course it isn't - but I just love Thunder basses. Still makes me smile now - gotta love Westones!

£169 is surely too much for a Spectrum. Though, there is some variability in the desirability of different versions.

£150 for a Maya fretless also looks too high. Especially since I guess that this is a defret as I don't think Maya fretless basses had fret lines. EDIT: Can't imagine this 60s looking "Teisco/Kawai" selling for the asking price. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4ade56069c

£550 for a Tokai Hard Puncher? I thought they sold for a fair bit less than that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-s-Tokai-Hard-Puncher-precision-bass-guitar-in-white-with-hard-case-/181563716438?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a460a7356

The fretless Thunder 1A sold for £62 versus my lowball bid of £51 or thereabouts.
