Guys just be straight and tell them what your upto :)

Yeah right, Mrs Thor had me sussed the other week, she stubbed her toe on the Fender Sub Lime fuzz pedal I had stashed at the bottom of the bed  she howled "I thought you were only borrowing that for the weekend", I replied I did & liked it so much I bought it! No trouble apart from being told to move it from under the bed
I used to prep a rally car for a fella. When he was younger and recently married him and his spouse put a deposit down on a house. Few days later he went and lifted the deposit and bought a BDA'd MK1 escort. She found out when she tried to find out what was holding up the sale !!!

Soon after they got a house and got some work done on the condition they would pay of the workers each month. One day she got a knock on the door from an irate plasterer looking his money 'but Jims been paying you each month'

Nope he was giving the money to a guy he bought a gear box off instead, funnily enough they were divorced in 6 months :)

Another rallying mate has a joint account with his wife he can't withdraw from, standing order goes from his account to the joint one, she does the same and the joint account is the house and kids fund. It was set up after he spent the new kitchen money on a new gear box. Same bloke bought a Lancia interglae in October she still doesn't know, or about the spare Fiat 131 he bought about 4 years ago staying up at a mates yard
Basses are one thing, But cars?!?!?! Those guys have got balls!
I want a full written report on how you intend to redress the wife:bass ratio (WBR), which is expected be at least 1:3 (in certain USA states I believe 2:4 is acceptable). I want this on my desk by Monday Marvin.
In order to get to a respectable ratio of course there is the obvious, yet boring option, of buying 2 more basses that are identical to my current one. The option of hiding new purchases at the houses of friends and family. Currently my bass remains in its case (keeps my pesky kids off it), so I could hang my current one on a wall and put a new one in the case, the 3rd left at drummers practice room. A precision would be fairly easy to get away with. Could say its my mate Nick's and he's done some work on it (I've borrowed it before).
Finally there is the nuclear option. Just tell her whose boss and purchase the damn things anyway. Promptly followed by a quick trip to the solicitors office :)
She's not that good, Fender have never made a "Baby Blue" precision.

:)
Only cos a hard-hitting, rock'n'rolling Fender player would never be seen dead with a "baby blue" instrument:

"What, that baby blue one? Pah. That's for wusses... What's that? It's Sonic blue?! Ah, gizza strap, fella. I'm firin' this sonic bad-boy up!"

Yay for marketing.

My wife is a quick learner. She now knows each and every one of my instruments, the brand and model of each instrument, all the features of each of my basses, and is fully aware of each and every amp I own. We also have a flat so small that another instrument would stand out like another person in the house. I couldn't sneak one in if my life depended on it.

Fortunately, she trusts me, knows I am very good with money (she's not bad either!), and good with funding new purchases using old gear. As such, she didn't bat an eyelid when I said in May of 2009 'sweetheart, I'm planning a new Wood&tronics fretless, it'll cost even more than the last one... hope that's ok'...

Her response: 'sure, what features is it going to have?'

I love my wife :)

Theres no way that would work for me. The queen plays my gear regularly so its sooooooooooooooo hard to hide a new bass. :)

To be fair Daphne Blue sounds a bit more feminine.

A friend of mine goes mountain biking regularly and likes to get new ones using the 'bike to work' scheme. All was going well until he went out for a ride one day. His wife went in the garage and noticed that both of his expensive bikes were still hanging on the wall.

That was when she found out he'd just spent a grand on bike number 3!

She was unimpressed. A few months have passed and he's got his eye on bike number 4, although a little more wary about it this time.

Aah! I spose under the bed is ok. I was thinking that taking your pedals to bed is just asking for trouble.

This thread is making me think 'what are we afraid of? Are we mice or men (and women)?

I guess the biggest fear is that if you're rumbled with a new bass she'll retaliate by buying totally unnecessary things like food and clothes and stuff.

fatback (one bass) :)

Everything was fine, the wife didn't notice new guitars or amps....but then my daughter learned to talk, and she notices everything!

So it ususally goes......"MUM!!! Dads bought a new guitar!!"......

kids, eh? There so cute when they're babies you could eat them, then they grow up and you wish you had!

My wife can count so my ploy to have a Shuker P5 and a Fender P4 bothin Jamerson Sunburst didn't work... :)
I think she'll notice the new one though. It's certainly not sunburst
