1. I woudln't pay, and it seem from what I've seen that it's pretty normal to be that way. I helped out a band and wasn't asked to pay, then I joined them full time and I was asked to put in.
2. Samson APB-1 -> Boss CEB-3 -> Digitech Bad Monkey -> Marshall Jackhammer -> Line 6 M9 (controlled by Roland EV-5) -> Seymour Duncan Doubleback Compressor -> Zoom MS60-B Powered by Harley Benton powerplant junior (Apart from the M9 which is on it's own supply)
3. On my board I have the Marshall Jackhammer and a digitech bad monkey, both can be found for very cheap used or new, I like them both
4. If you're looking for something cheaper you could get a cheap rack multi effect such as one of the zooms or peaveys (I got a zoom 1201 and a peavey deltafex for £35 combined on gumtree) and the appropriate foot switch and use that in the insert channel on a mixer, if available. As for the question in hand I have often wondered if I could do the same with my line 6 m9 or something and use a guitar based effect through a microphone.... Maybe I'll run a quick experiment when the rest of the house aren't sleeping hehe. A quick google suggests that you'll have to adjust the level from the mic, using a pre-amp or something, but it's probably achievable (check here http://www.gearslutz.com/board/live-sound/171977-live-vocal-through-guitar-pedal-setup-question.html )
5. Roland EV5 is what I use, as long as you remember to keep the knob on the side up at 10 (I have a bit of tape keeping it there) then it's fine. One minor annoyance is that it works in reverse by default, but it's easy enough to set the values the other way around, you just put the pedal all the way back, change the settings to where you want, and push it down and put them where you want to go. I use mine for pitch glide (just an octave down) and haven't had any issues with it. I can try it across the full range if you'd like as someone above had a problem with theirs.

7.
What is the best chainsaw for metal?
Depends on the amp that you plug it in to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frm_sn3G0As
8. I've used an ashdown 210 combo plus a 115 ashdown extension once or twice and it is a pretty good setup, once was at a gig with provided backline and the other was a rehearsal studio which I used a few times, I'd say that getting the 115 is the best all round option from what I've heard, with the 210 close behind, however if you ever sold the combo for a seperate head I'd rather have a 115 cab than a 210.
I was just looking to find out, seems so, I haven't tried it yet though https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.massimobiolcati.irealb&hl=en
10.
It's possible that the B3's hardware isn't capable of running 6 effects simultaneously, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's inferior hardware to the G3. There's a note in the manual that the bass amp models are very processing intensive, and the same might be true of quite a few of the effects. It might be that the chip is perfectly capable of 6 lots of signal-processing where the guitar effects are concerned (mainly eq / clipping / modulation) but many of the bass effects (eg. synths / compression) are just too processor heavy to pull it off without noticeable latency. Simply playing devil's advocate here. Recently bought a B3 myself, and I'd love to be able to set up 6 effects to a patch.
The same note is in the G3 manual, so I'd guess that similar restrictions apply. I'm not sure how heavy a load each individual effect puts on it though of course, although if I remember correctly it was amp simulations that were they said would most likely be a problem.
11. I really don't get why they won't do it, either: -They don't want to, because for some reason we're not as important as those pesky guitarists, or they don't understand why it would be good for us OR -They can't, because for some reason the B3's hardware isn't capable of it, which means we're sold what is an inferior product at the same price (although not having this upgrade kind of makes it inferior in the first place) Maybe I'm being too mean, or I've not had enough caffeine this morning, but I really fail to understand this.

15. This site has loads of reviews and tips about compressors, I suggest reading through this, if I didn't post this link someone else would! http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/toppicks.shtml
16.
As my computer does not have Midi ports, I've got a midi to USB lead, that I use with my J Station for downloading patches and using the software. It works most of the time, but more often than not I have unplug then plug in the USB and start over because the J Editor freezes or I get the 'cannot find drivers' dialogue box. I'm guessing this is to do with the USB port not being a midi one? Should this make a difference? ta.
I had big big problems with a cheap Midi-USB interface with my M9, and a lot of the reports said that it was the drivers not being up to scratch, with the cheaper ones the drivers are the very basic windows plug and play ones, which from what I've read don't really stand up to much, particularly with data transfer. I replaced it with a M-Audio Uno, which come up pretty cheap on ebay quite often, which has been rock solid since, as long as you use the drivers from their website.
17. Me trying to keep a straight face with my 2002 Ibanez BTB 575. It's the only neck I ever feel really comfortable on, the active circuit (Bass+Mid+Mid Sweep+Treble) means that there's not really any situation that I can't use it in, the only change I'd make is that I've heard the newer version of the pickups makes a huge difference..... 19.
Great cabs. Is that the 4 or 8ohm? I got one of these with the intention of getting two, but its not needed! How is it with the hartke?
Cheers It's the 8 Ohm, the hartke has 8Ohm labelled under each socket, but the manual says it's okay to use a 4 ohm cab, but the manual has been wrong in the past and I thought 350w should be more than enough for my useage. I've not managed to try it out loudly yet, but it's very very clear and rounded, but quite noisy with the tweeter on (even with the volume on the head right off). I'm not very good at describing tone :L But I would certainly say that I am happy with it
20. Hartke LH500 -> Gallien Krueger 212MBE My hunt for a new cab is complete and here it is in front of the old ones. When I first bought the 410xl I got told it was a 400w cab, which it isn't, but I only found that out after I upgraded to the LH500, it was distorting after gigs on it's on so I've had to gig with a full stack since then, no matter what the venue, which was a pleasant inconvenience The weight of the GK is roughly a quarter of the weight of the two old cabs combined, so this should make my life a lot easier.
21. I can't be too certain, but send ashdown an e-mail about it or pop a question on their facebook, they're usually very helpful people
22. These are always pretty highly rated, come in second hand for around £100 http://line6.com/lowdownstudio110/
23. Quite worried now that they've pulled down the original video, and uploaded a new one with the bit saying 6 at a time cut :S
24. Good news, they just confirmed it in the comments But I can't find it anywhere On the G3, it was under the "Software" tab, but there's just the asio drivers and the edit and share software
