bubinga5
just wanted to share this..the love of my life......just supreme...looks like Gouche on bass duties as usual...i got to say his playing is out of this world..!!! IMHO i dont think many players can touch Gouche and the other gospel players for out and out master... He can fly around that board with most amazing note choices and natural intuition ive ever heard..his playing is driving the music so much.. A true master on the bass that man. .if i could play/listen to any one music for the rest of my life, this is it...just wonderfull groove, epic singing, backers,drumming..this must have been so inspirational to see live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynGoVm-gY90 Edited December 24, 2009 by bubinga5

wombatboter
A drummer I play with a lot around here in Belgium had the pleasure to play with Chaka during one concert and she brought Gouch along. He was floored by this bass player and he said that it's amazing how a bass-player could be so busy on his instrument and yet hold a tight groove. Stingray5
Wow! Excellent arrangement of an absolute classic. The brass section and backing singers are just superb - not to mention that rhythm section, of course!

chris_b
Great vid. Good on several levels; great playing and singing, I liked the arrangement, minimal shrieking by Ms Khan and great finger style bass playing.
JonnyB
It's a bass concerto whenever he's on - I love it ! Every note is 'right' though (like Bernard Edwards from Chic) Chaka Khan was touring the UK recently with Lulu and someone else, can't remember, I wanted to go to the Liverpool showing but it was sold out. I wonder if Mr Gooch was on for that? If he was then, damn and blast - missed it! I hope us Basschatters can keep an eye on his touring schedule and give a 'heads up' if he sets foot on this isle! I'd love to see him live.

Some friends went, and I'll ask them, but I'm fairly certain it was to a backing track. Well, if it's anything like the performance they did on the Royal Variety Show recently, then it's almost definitely to a track. I'll just keep telling myself that. IT WAS TO A TRACK. Anyway, back on topic - that video is pure gospel filth.

I was at the London Shepard's Bush gig - it was in the middle of the last big freeze up and it was touch and go whether it would go ahead, due to the travel restrictions. Great gig and great bass from Andrew. Molan was there too: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...8&hl=gouche Edited December 24, 2009 by Platypus

My favourite Chaka / Gouche moment is on the '08 "All the Hits - Live" album on Ain't Nobody. Some of Gouche's playing on this is just phenomenal

solo4652
Hmmm - well, it's not doing it for me. Sorry. I'm not an experienced bass player, and I'm always interested to see and hear great players - I'm looking for inspiration, really. There surely can be no doubt that Gouche is a tremendously talented player. Is he inspiring me? No, not really. Why? Because he plays too fast for me. The opening moments of the video seem to have a sort of constant background bass-rumble that, to me, is more of a general soundscape than a thoughtful bass accompaniment. The more I listened to the video, the less interested I became in the bass. I personally thought it's too busy, too dense, not enough light-dark contrast. Bit like a sonic equivalent of a wide, flat boulder-strewn landscape - lots of things there, but too few features or contrasts to be really involving and stimulating. I hope nobody is upset by my comments. They are my purely personal feelings and comments. Each to their own... Peace on Earth, Steve
Faithless
His playing was widely discussed on TB not long ago.. He didn't get much 'encouragement' there, nor he got from me. A lot of notes, but I couldn't even hear him properly..
