That popping video bears the same relationship to bass playing as a keepy-uppy expert bears to a Premiership footballer.

It's a clever trick and I'm sure he's worked hard to get that far, but it's completely pointless.
totally, i mean after what level 2 maybe three it becomes harsh noise,

some of the tapped chord stuff is cool, but there is no "clarity" as such i find that a hard word to use as my tone isn't tonally but it is "clear" but not transparent,

get what i mean? (i'm usless with words :))

Hmmm... Seemed to slip a few bpm out in places....

I am quite jealous!

To everyone saying this is pointless, I view these types of videos as "here look what you can do if you extrapolate these exercises out as far as humanly possible". I reckon if I could do that, I'd be able to play any real music (granted this isn't real music :) ).

Nah. That first example was just awful, showboating, look-at-me-mum stunt bass, with all the musicality of rattling a stick along some railings. Which oddly enough is exactly what it sounded like.

The other two links - Tetsuo Sakurai & Gustavo Dalfarra - are in another league altogether as far as solo bass is concerned. Dalfarra particularly is a brilliant example of how it's possible to combine excellent technical dexterity with good composition - and good taste - and be musical, captivating and entertaining.

Jon.
