That is a really nice sound, reminds of that fretless P bass I sometimes daydream about.

In terms of good sound, I like all of JMJ's playing with Beck. No glassy highs and sit's nicely in the mix

[quote name='NancyJohnson' post='578475' date='Aug 23 2009, 07:49 PM']Geddy Lee pretty much has the tone nailed for me. Rickenbacker, Wal, Steinberger or Fender Jazz makes little difference. You all know what he sounds like...

Absolutely !!! which reinforces my theory that really no matter what bass or what rig (within standard set ups I imagine) 99.9% of sound comes from your fingers and attack.

As much as I love Geddy Lee I've always thought his Wal tone was bloody awful.

Before I was a bass player, I was blown away by Stanley Clarke's sound on the CD 'Find out'. I'd never been aware of active basses before and it sounded so amazing. Not surprisingly as it was Stanley, the bass is really upfront in the mix and totally driving the songs.

Yeah.. SPRAAAAANG!!

Mind you, I liked it Marathon and Turn the Page, but.. not much else.

Actually, his Jazz tone around Different Stages and Rush In Rio sucked a bit, too. It's got better again since, though.

Isn't that because this is about sounds? :) Great player though.

+1 for Timmy C on Evil Empire - from start to finish, through a myriad of different clean, overdriven and distorted sounds, it is a tonal tour de force.

Without wanting to sound a bit of a loser, my dream bass sound is my own sound, which I don't think sounds like anyone else. Obviously I have MANY fave bass sounds from all sorts of music, but the tone for 'me' is 'mine'.
