NigeJ Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Got an audition for a new band tonight... About 70% certain on the ten songs I was given to learn. To be honest, I'm not nervous at all. At nearly 61, if it doesn't work out I'll not be peeved. Not a huge shift in style from my last band. More modern metal then old school death metal which the last lot did. Looking forward to be back playing more than anything 😁 13 Quote
BassAdder60 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Ten songs for an audition is a bit much when they may be seeing several candidates. 6 songs is plenty for both parties to see if it’s a good fit Different if you already know many of the songs but asking for 10 songs only to be told no is a bit unfair. I’m sure that won’t happen and you will get the role 👍 2 Quote

Cliff Edge Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Maybe it’s “ play 2 or 3 out of this list”. ?? 2 Quote
Steve Browning Posted January 19 Posted January 19 If I was auditioning, it would be 3 songs and that's it. If the decision was a yes straight away then I might 'jam' the other 7 but that's a ridiculous ask for an auditionee. 4 Quote
cetera Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Good luck Nige! Remember, you're auditioning them too....! 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I’m not so sure, last audition I had was told of 3 songs off the bands album. Got to the audition, they asked me where I wanted to start and my reply was let’s do the album start to finish. My thoughts are it doesn’t hurt to learn a good few songs even if I don’t get the job, as surely I must like those songs in order to be auditioning for a band that plays them. I did get the job btw. 2 Quote

Ahh, but showing you're keen and going for extra credit isn't the same thing as being given 10 songs to learn straight off the bat for an audition... 1 Quote

Yeah I get that, certainly less pressure my way, learning 12 when given 3 than being given 10 to start with. But being given 10 can be a good way of looking at both the commitment of the auditionee, and their ability, if given a fairly wide range of material. I think the most I’ve been given for an audition was 6, tho was 15 years ago so could have been more. Quote

NigeJ Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 The audition went well. Blasted through seven of the ten songs. The usual botche and getting lost once or twice. But generally a positive vibe from the band. They're auditioning one more bass player next week, so a ten day wait for a decision.... Good bunch of guys as well. 13 1 Quote
