Extra comfortable/soft strap

I broke my collarbone recently and although it's healed (yay!) and I can play again (yay!) I still struggle with straps. I used a regular strap on a rehearsal yesterday and it doesn't feel great. The metal plate is still in my left shoulder and it presse a bit against the skin. I'm looking for a soft, comfortable strap. I have a Mono Betty, but the ends of that aren't at all durable so I don't want another one

I need padding, but I don't need stretch. I was looking at the Levy Comfort Strap, the GruvGear Solo and the classic Comfort Strapp. Any experiences? Am I missing one?

Maybe add the Neotech Mega to your list. I have one of those and also a Comfort Strapp. Both are very good. The softer foam padding and bit of stretch may suit your collarbone a bit better than a padded leather one. These both replaced Mono Betty ones and I find them more comfortable.

May be off topic, but have you considered where the seams are on your shirt. 

I found padding under my T-shirt to be a lot more effective than a softer strap. The shoulder seam on the T-shirt was pressing onto a nerve.

Thanks for the idea David I have considered that; the seams are slightly off and I can feel the pressure of the strap on my collarbone. I've ordered a Gruvgear today, also because of the availability and length. Very curious.

There are comments in another thread but if it’s definitely comfort not cost look at a Heistercamp strap. Have it exactly how you want and choose ’with padding’. I just got a 3 1/2 inch for a heavy P I like to play and not having any of the associated probs now. Money well spent!

I've used a Comfort Strapp for many years and wouldn't use anything else. Thick neoprene padding and elasticated, it absorbs every shock and really spreads the weight of any bass. Just check the length, because you'll probably want long, if not extra long unless you like a bass under your chin

I use a 4" wide Pinegrove. I bought it to solve the slight neck dive on my Spector (it has a grippy suede liner that helps prevent it slipping), but I find it very comfortable. It's thick leather, decently padded and very nicely made (in the UK, with UK-sourced materials, too, which is a bonus).

Just to have choice, I've also ordered the Richter Ultra Comfort Ergo strap. That should arrive tomorrow.

I have several padded straps from Thomann over the years which I really like but bought one of these Lekato ones to try.

 

I find the strap is quite grippy, so you can't easily slide the bass around on your shoulder without feeling it is going to rip your top (I have a band jacket with rope epaulettes in the concert band, so it feels like it is going to wreck that).

 

I also find the bit that attaches to the top horn is very squeaky under load, as though the plasticky leather stuff is about to split.

 

Just my experience, obvs.

I absolutely love these Maruszczyk ones.  These are the comfiest straps I have tried (which includes most of the suggestions): really soft leather, grippy suede reverse, decent amount of padding and also quite wide and load bearing.

Mine are both fabric backed over the neoprene so no more grippy than the average strap. Can't answer for the squeaky end tag, mine are all Schaller straplock equipped and don't make any nasty noises. I have one each of the ones above, no problems.

I have always assumed the noise is coming from strain around the plastic hoop between the main strap and the bit that attaches to the guitar (just above the Lekato plectrum pocket on your picture).  I admit I don't use straplocks, just the original button with rubber rings around the outside, a-la Grolsch bottle top seals. 

 

I have had this on one of my fairly average weight basses, and not just the Sire boat anchor. 

 

Maybe I just got a bad one.
