I'd consider it for practice or in the studio but on stage I have an irrational (heh see!) fear of using pedals during a performance. I'm just paranoid that cables will get tangled or me or someone else will step on it by accident or unplug it. My tuner and distortion pedals live in front of the amp at the back of the stage and I strictly forbid any of my band mates from going anywhere near them lol

Is having it wired up with a blend pot not an option?

It is an option I think but I'm not 100% sure. EMG seems to have thousands of wiring diagrams on their website and it seems that in addition to the handful they provide with the pickups there are also other options that they don't tell you about. They do sell an active blend knob I think but I'd have to check.

 

Basically I'm too lazy to check their website, buy the parts, and figure it out myself/take it to my tech 🤣

Think of the neck pickup volume as your master volume, and the bridge pickup volume as the "hollow twang" knob and you'll be ok leaving it turned down.

Under no circumstances should the "hollow twang" knob be turned up on its own 😆

This 100%. One of the reasons I always prefer Precisions over Jazz basses. 

My P-Lyte (PJ pickups) has a single volume plus a pan control which works fine for me.

And on the drums thing, I've played with too many drummers who have more than 3 toms, plus another 4 cymbals. It takes 'em ages to set up and it takes up most of the stage (unless you're in a proper sized venue). I could forgive said drummers if didn't then bash every one of those drums as hard as they could without listening to how they fit in with the band, and especially by tw@tting the ride cymbal constantly giving just an unpleasant wash of high frequency that obscures just about everything else... If they could just do the groove thing with the snare, hi-hat and bass drum we'd all be much happier. And funkier!

Hihat for groove, ride for swing. And one of the reasons I mostly use a dry ride is to give some space. Drummers just tw@ting everything as hard as possible all the time is one of my pet hates but I wouldn't call that irrational.

That's a very strong word to describe one extra string 😁 I hope you've never been in a situation where you've been forced to play one or even lost work because you refused. Funnily enough when I started playing I didn't understand the G string,I was like "how is this even bass?" This is probably why even though I can, I don’t play 6 string bass.

5 string low B is just an indistinct fart! So I should have been more specific and said I hate 5 string strung low B..... and yes I have lost work because I won't play low B but also I'm more of a 4 string fretless guy so I just stick to what I'm good at. As it happens I do play a 5 string but high C.... and yep, get up the dusty end of the C string all the time, but then I'm not playing death metal.
