AndyTravis Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Well, after much piddling about. i’m in one band…just one. Fiasco Jam Named before I joined, it should be The Fiasco Jam or The Jam Fiasco if it were my shout, but it’s not…so I’ll shut up. All originals, sort of indie rock stuff. I enjoy their company and we’ve done an EP which is available on all streaming platforms called “Broken Bridges” - currently self-recording an album which is edging towards completion… Here’s a live recording of a track called “We’re Connected”. 3 Quote

How did the band get started / how long have you guys been together? Are you regularly out gigging? Edited July 11 by Al Krow 1 Quote
LowB_FTW Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I'm loving this thread. A great introduction to some new music, and supporting fellow BassChat members too. If you're on Bandcamp and I've liked what I've heard, I'm following you. My bank balance may regret this on the next Bandcamp Friday. Mark 1 Quote

How did the band get started / how long have you guys been together? Are you regularly out gigging? Katy’s been doing the singer/songwriter thing since she was a young teenager. About 2016 she put an ad out to find a band to back her, and at the same time a band I occasionally depped with had decided they wanted to find an original singer to work with. So the band started 2016; I’m bassist number 3 having joined in late 2022, but have known the guitarist for 11 years and the drummer for 20. We’ve just finished up a small UK tour supporting her debut album release (which should have come out in 2020 but Covid put paid to that so it’s been waiting to go for 5 years!) and we have a few festivals etc lined up still. Tonight we’re playing the official opening night at Rodeo’s in Birmingham, it’s gonna be a hot one! 2 Quote
lurksalot Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) Great thread one thing that would be a brilliant addition , and I know there’s a few of you do already , but could you all post your gigs in the gig thread. i follow the thread , and while I can’t get to most , I’ll always check location and dates to see if I can get to any. Both original, though I have been known to nick basslines from everything from Ornette Coleman to Parliament to Magazine... My apologies Leonard - I obviously missed that from the contents summary when I was updating it late last night! Now if you had to call it (as tricky as it may be!) would it be fair to say that your current main band i.e. the one you are spending the most time working/playing with is Choked? If so, I'll include that one on the summary to keep things equitable 😊 1 Quote

asingardenof Posted Tuesday at 13:07 Posted Tuesday at 13:07 (edited) I play with Replicater, a covers band nominally based in Cleckheaton near Bradford (though 2/5 of us are in Wakefield). We do a mix of 80s and 90s pop, new wave and Britpop mostly, but with some other bangers from other disciplines if we feel like it. Our FB page link is in my signature and I've attached a video, although it's a couple of years old because we're terrible at recording our gigs. We mainly play pubs, WMCs and the occasional cricket club, but we're playing a private party later in the summer. VID-20230828-WA0000.mp4 Edited Tuesday at 13:37 by asingardenof 3 Quote

Still do not know what that means! We’re difficult to classify. We’re not metal enough for metal, but too heavy for rock. Almost an Electric Callboy / Architects / Bring me the horizon / Enter Shikari vibe. Heavy guitars, bass, vocals but with EDM inspired synths. Liking this a lot! OoI what do you do about the keyboard parts when you gig? Quote

So, if you're in a band, please share a bit about: - your band, its history, whereabouts you're based and play, music genres? - whether it's an originals band giving vent to a creative streak; or a - covers band - do you mainly play at pubs and clubs or do you regularly also play functions? - or maybe it's a tribute or a church band? Please feel free to share how many gigs you guys are typically doing each year, and how you go about getting bookings. A video clip / picture is often worth a thousand words 😊 Let's pimp my originals band - The Inevitable Teaspoons We're a five piece band based in NE Scotland (Aberdeen city and shire). We have no guitarist - we're not anti-guitar, that's just how it ended up. Instrumentation is drums, bass, keys, trombone, sax. We formed when some of us quit another band but still wanted to play with most of the rest of the old band. Frankly I don't know what pithy 1 or 2 word genre name can be applied to us. Not trying to be obtuse, but I genuinely die a little inside when I get asked "what kind of music do you play?" Umm, spoony music? Sorta ska, but played kinda straight like rock? I dunno. We gig very infrequently because we're shy and lazy. We usually play the places in Aberdeen which do originals bands - Cafe Drummond and Krakatoa, but have gigged further afield before - I think we've played in Perth a couple of times. Right now we're doing some DIY recording in our rehearsal room, hoping to put an album together this year. We have one EP and one album already released. Here's a very old video. Backing track with laptop (which controls our IEM mixes and click track) which outputs to a DI 😊 we did consider a keyboard player, but everyone we spoke with was a bit weird. We decided the synth and band was better as the 4 of us. Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 21:21 Posted Wednesday at 21:21 Bendricks Rock: classic rock, all eras from late 60s. Tends to the heavier end. Fortunate Sons: 60s/70s rock, more chart hits. Still to debut with them as missed my first gig due to being ill. Bluesfire: blues rock 'power trio'. Guitar prodigy Fractured Persona: originals somewhat gothy/punky. With a bit of an art-rock element. Got our songs, working on arrangements. More a recording project than great live ambitions, but our gig plans would suit Alice Cooper... Quote

It was Bluesfire, but now Al the guitarist's other venture has become a charting indie band, Bendricks Rock is the main one. Long term I have about the same number of FS gigs in the diary. Joined Bluesfire 4 years ago alongside a band who only managed three gigs in 18 months, so I left that one and started Bendricks Rock about 6 months later. Just joined Fortunate Sons. Fractured Persona is more of a recording project with a limited lifespan, probably will do a handful of gigs. I had 7 gigs across these bands this month, but due to illness have missed three Ideal for me is three or four gigs a month. Maybe more. Quote
