Bassassin Posted June 30 Posted June 30 It's an early 80s Korean-made Cort - sold under dozens of names but mainly Kay in the UK. I had one, it was pretty good, maybe not quite up to the level of similar Japanese basses from the same era, but getting there. Definitely no' bad for £50. 4 Quote
BigRedX Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Guitars and basses displayed with no strings fitted always make me wary. To me that says there is a problem with the neck that will become obvious when strung. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I’ve got one, there’s a thread on it somewhere, can’t remember if I paid £80 or £100, I’d say it’s well overpriced Quote
Maude Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I've got one, it's actually a decent bass, sounds good with it's Powersound pickups. I paid the princely sum of feck all, probably worth a bit more but not much. Quote
eubassix Posted July 3 Author Posted July 3 Reported to ebay (ages ago) but it's still there. Not sure how it differs from using 'Fender', 'Gibson' etc. incorrectly. Ironically it's now the first thing that comes up on a search for 'Pedulla Basses'. I was initially intrigued to discover how 'Kay' had made a copy of Mike P's MVP bass(es), apparently before he'd even produced them himself. But assume seller is just referring to the body/headstock design ... although they're not that similar really. Quote

I've come to the conclusion that eBay don't give a monkeys about counterfeits and, after arguing with them, being told by their "AI" that there's nothing wrong with obvious fakes, escalating, speaking to people, and so-on, I've lost faith in their service. The fact that they then started adding on a "buyer assurance" (or whatever they call their buyers fees) premium gives me no confidence that an issue with an item would be successfully resolved; either (a) their conclusions would be via the same system as their handling of counterfeit reports and yield the same results, or (b) they've downgraded that to deliberately create a premium "service". I've pretty much stopped using eBay. Quote
Dan Murphy Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Hi all, Just thought I'd drop a message on here considering this is my listing. Firstly, thank you for all of your replies to this as if I've learnt a lot about this bass from this. I struggled to find information about this bass online to price this bass so went with a similar price to one listed on Reverb somewhere in Europe. From reading this is clearly very overpriced so I'll be making an adjustment for this. To answer someone saying as there are no strings there must be an issue with the neck I have since restrung this and plays great. I just took some quick photos to list the bass. I'd only put Pedulla in the title as another seller who is selling this had done the same. I presumed this was a model name but from research this clearly isn't. I appreciate all info on this and will be adjusting things accordingly. Any ideas on a more realistic valuation so I know what to price it at? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dan 4 Quote
Happy Jack Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Dan, if you do an eBay search for "Kay bass" and then check (under 'Advanced') Completed Items, you can see how much every Kay bass sold on eBay recently went for. It will quickly be apparent that the only ones that break through £200 are the ones that qualify as Rickenfakers. Most commonly, Kay Jazz basses and similar stick at around the £150 mark. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Be aware that some Kays have little value, but the better ones are actually rather hood and yours is in that category. Not worth a fortune but not a throw-away. (From a man with two Kay basses and a guitar, both inferior to yours). Quote

Fortunately, we worked it out: he cancelled, I got an immediate refund to PayPal, then he re-listed as collection-only, I did the offer, he accepted, and then I went and collected it. 2 Quote

He's clearly a clued up discerning player that's held down gigs (that a nobody like me would have felt obliged to hit Denmark St and pay through the nose for an overpriced 70s Fender because it looked more appropriate for the artist) for many decades and been on some landmark recordings. I think BC'er Nick may know him? I've always kept an eye on the gear he uses, we use similar amps, as he ploughs his own furrow. It's a bass that I would definitely have been sniffy about but it just goes to show doesn't it? Edited 3 hours ago by The fasting showman Typo Quote
