Beyond the scope of this topic, naturally, but my thoughts come from a different perspective, in that I hold that the 'value' of anything, anything at all, is dependent on the one resource we all have on this planet and is, to me, of equal value to all. That is Time; I would have it that all labour should be rewarded only as far as the time it takes. No man, or woman, is born any richer nor poorer than another, but all have a certain Capital : the Time they have to live. I hold that one hour of anyone's time is as valuable as any other, and that all labour, of any sort, should be 'monied' only in the time it takes. The hours spent in a diamond mine should give a value to any diamond found, the hours spent baking bread given the same hourly rate. An airline pilot, a store check-out girl, a surgeon... all at the same hourly rate. There are details, and nuances, to this philosophy (those with responsibility, those working part-time, those studying for years, and more...), and there are certainly some less welcome consequences, but, to me, it is, all things considered, far better than the current notion of profit and exploitation. It's not jealousy, nor envy, but a sense of injustice when I note that so many folk on the Planet have next to nothing, in perpetuity, and others have much more than they have earned, or even need.
As I said previously, I'm well aware that it's not a popular notion, but my idea of 'worth' is based on this sort of thinking. One should be paid, fairly, for the hours spent on one's endeavours, and no more, the same as everyone else on Earth. B|

That's fine, as long as it takes the same amount of time to train an airline pilot or a surgeon as a till operator and the qualifications required are the same.

Why..? Do pilots and surgeons need to eat more than till operators..? I'd have them paid for their hours of training, but at the same hourly rate as everyone else on the Planet. They would get more, yes, but cannot 'earn' more than 24 hours in any one day, whoever they are, and whatever they do. :|

I don’t see many till operators sacrificing much of their youth studying for all hours, going into tremendous debt then later in life missing out on their kids growing up, working until the early hours, taking decisions that can lead to death or serious injury with all the stress that comes with this. I would quit my job tomorrow, let alone have spent all the hours and money to even get where I am if I could earn the same serving coffee.

The people I know who earn more have sacrificed more, more time, more money, more stress and more risk. They deserve the extra. I started on the path and decided it wasn’t for me.

Stitch is with that, you eliminate the reward aspect of years of learning. Why go through 6-8 years of training and education to be earning the same as a shelf stacker? Yes, we need shelf stackers, but there are those that would rather earn less and not go through rigorous learning and those that would choose to go through years of education to reach a goal. I agree, in an idealistic world, you're right. But in reality it wouldn't work as we'd have no surgeons and lots of stackers!

Agreed. Not sure about you but I would rather the person piloting any plane I was on or operating on me was paid more than the baggage handler or security guard. It gives a certain reassurance that they are getting rewarded because they are the best at what they do in a competitive environment. I certainly know that the buck stops with me in my own field and it does so because I have more knowledge and experience than the people passing the problem on. If we were all paid the same then why bother?

I get it in principle. It'd be like a Star Trek universe kind of scenario, where everyone works to better themselves and not for financial gain. But humanity isn't there yet, we're still all inherently selfish and look out for our own. What I earn, I work for and do 'things' outside of the norm (mostly excessive travelling and chairing numerous meetings etc.) to earn that. Some would prefer to earn a different wage and not do what I do. Same for me and other jobs I wouldn't want to do (even if I could) that earn differently. Choice and the reward for 'hard work' are necessary at the moment in the society we've built.

The band I am in is called the Desert Penguins. So here's one I prepared earlier while I wait for Chat GPT to recreate me as a puppet "inspired by the Muppets"

4 strings going to one tuner, and 2 to the other.

I do like the extreme compensated frets though.

4 strings, 4 tuners and 4 capstans? This cannot be AI.

4 strings? Are you just not seeing the super short lower two strings? 😂

Those are some eagle eyes you have there, Mark. Good work. I was so surprised at the ‘accuracy’ at the headstock end, that I failed to make a full perimeter search. Good to know that computer generated (no intelligence evident just yet) images continue to be inaccurate in the silliest of ways.
