She isn't trying to fool anyone, she is just air guitaring along to some music, as people have done for years. Is he going to get outraged at the air guitar competitions they have next? I mean I wouldn't watch her videos but she certainly isn't as irritating as watching Danny Sapko!

Even someone who's never played must be able to see that when she's hitting the strings has no correlation with the timing of the notes in the background music.

 

Seems daft to get annoyed at someone who doesn't seem to be trying very hard to deceive anyone.

 

Unless there's a previously unknown massive audience for 1980s Spanish package holiday hotel bar background music I imagine most of her followers probably aren't that interested in her musical skills anyway.

I will admit I only skimmed through the Sapko video, but IDK how comparable her situation is to Turro. Yes, she has social media followers, but he was getting gear deals and trade show appearances, and selling tabs - does she have anything like that depth of success through fakery or is Mr Sapko just reaching a little?

I read the transcripts, and sorry, still can't see it. I watched the parts of the videos of her in them, and she is clearly just miming along to the videos, and it is very obvious. if people believe that she is playing anything then they are probably idiots, or so far away from being able to make any music that I don't see anyone is losing anything. Compared to half the shit on youtube that actually matters, I think its pretty harmless. What do we expect from youtube and user generated content? Someone I know believes all the stuff he sees on youtube and parrots it with a pasion and a claritiy that I have never had about anything, about how much money the nhs was going to get from brexit, how russia was wronged by the west, how vaxines change your DNA and global warming is a hoax by big science etc - that stuff has consequences, this is some girl who has worked out how to make a few quid from people who want to watch her.

I really don't understand how anyone can get annoyed about that?

It gives them a sense of purpose and it does influence a lot of people to take up worthwhile activities. 

 

I mean we could moan all we like about people pretending to play an instrument, but if a handful of people are inspired to pick up an instrument, then that's quite worthwhile.

But then they don't know what a fantastic guitarist is - I have played with some remarkably sub par guitarists and after a gig they will get people saying how good they are - I don't know how peoples heads work.
