Are you sure?  A Z3 is only £399 new.  The only SBMM which comes close to matching its spec is a Ray34, and that's £999, and you still won't get an 18V preamp, passive mode, a 22nd fret or mega rolled fingerboard edges.

 

(Using Andertons for both prices)

 

But I guess £399 is a lot if you don't have it, but you didn't really specify what the metrics were...

Spot on. My Z7 with the ash body is 11.2 lbs and on a 2 hour gig it`s just too heavy. Pity too as I love everything else about it.

Well my Z7 (solid finish so not ash, CBA looking up what it is got back to the computer, it's alder) is 9 and a half pounds, and I don't consider that to be particularly heavy.

Fair enough, was looking at the higher end Z7 5 strings  around 700 euros on reverb.

I have a Z7-5 and a Z3-5, at 9.5 and 9.2 lbs, which is very decent for 5 strings

I would order one of the alder body Z7`s if I could be sure of the weight but in the meantime I have ordered a new strap from Pinegrove leather to see if that helps. I hope so as I really like the bass, the spec for the price is outstanding.

My V5 Fretless has just been delivered. I’ve not even taken the plastic off yet but here’s a photo as promised. I can’t believe the quality of this instrument for the money.

I seem to have an odd relationship with Sire. I had one of the original early model V7 ash bodied models in trans white, followed by a couple of second generation V7/P7/V7 Vintage models and finally a V10 which was a cracking bass. But I ended up selling them all on.

 

Seems I prefer a Pure Vintage pickup equipped passive real Fender Jazz. (I have two, both with the Pure Vintage 64s and nitro finishes.) I also have a recently acquired 2016 American Elite Jazz which is utterly phenomenal.

 

I found with the Sire preamp that the sound was too deeply scooped (even for me!), and I had to boost the low mids in order to get to the sound I really liked.

 

I've really been fancying a Z3, but I've held off, having recently bought a '95 2eq Stingray with an Aguilar pickup. Maybe I'm just in a lucky position where I can own great examples of the real thing.

 

Let's hope Sire don't bring out a Status alternative. Then I'll be in real trouble.

Don’t forget the Sire’s are supposed to be cheap basses. Hard to remember when they punch so high above their weight but you’d expect top range Fenders to be better.

Agreed. Especially the current cost cutting models like the Ultra II's with their skunk stripe and top mounted truss rod adjuster, the same as a Mexican bass or Squier.
