No suggestion she actually played but any excuse to post a picture of the goddess Kate Bush.

What's that bass, and what's those pickups?

A modded Jazz Bass?

Doesn't look like J pickups, and also both positioned closer to the neck than usual.

The neck one looks like it may be a humbucker.

As well, as there seems to be 2 switches, a big one and a smaller one.

Pickup selector and a parallel or single coil switch for the neck humbucker?

Yeah, they played Red Light Spells Danger on a Top Gear special years ago because Clarkson was learning to play the drums and Hammond and May could already play instruments. It did not go very well.

Aye, I suspect 99% of guitarists could play bass to a certain level so it's not a complete surprise to see some of them give it a pop!

In other shock news:

Drummer quite good at percussion too

Piano player not bad on organ either

The other was when I read an interview with sheryl crow about playing and writing on bass in later years.

Is that the interview where she said composing on bass meant she didn't need to worry about major and minor chords?

Thats Tommy Shannons white Jazz Bass. He was Johnny Winters bass player at the time - Woodstock era.

I read that Hendrix played the bass on All Along The Watchtower as Noel Redding had gone out to the shop.

Bryan Adams did a tour in early 00s as part of a 3 piece where he played bass. That was a surprise.

He did indeed. I saw him in Mannheim on that tour and I certainly didn't expect him to be playing bass.

Pretty much, it talks about how she would instinctively follow certain progressions out of habit.

Ah, I remember an interview with her years ago (probably Globe Sessions era) where she said she didn't worry about major/minor and just composed using root notes. Good to see she's developed from her early forays!

I've heard that you don't hear Noel Redding on any Jimi Hendrix recording, but that could be (and probably is) just a myth.

Although Tomsk was the first call bassist for The Wombles, Here's Madame Cholet digging in, on a tasty-looking Jazz bass...

and jamming with Roy Wood on a sixer;
