Bass Tabs.

Evening all.

I know you are not that keen on Tabs. But as someone brand new to Bass or any Guitar playing, I find them quite handy. Do you think these Tabs are correct. When i play them they do not seem right. Even for me it seems a fairly easy song to play along to. As it mostly the same all the way through.

What do you think.

G-------------------------|
D---6-9-6-----------------|
A-7-------(9)---6-9-6-----|
E-------------7-------(7)-|

*Notes in brackets are not played on the record, but if
you want to throw them in for the fun of it, just play
the note before it, and the note itself, twice as fast
as the rest.

Ending

G-------------------------|
D-------------------------|
A-7-7-7-7-7-7-------------| x 2
E-------------7-7-7-7-7-7-|

G-------------------------|
D-------------------------|
A-7-7-7-7-7-7--7-7-7-7----|
E-------------------------|

Cheers. Bill.

Cant help you directly with that song
But I tend to listen / watch some bass covers / lessons on youtube and see how they do it
See how it sounds when they play it

Tabs only really work in conjunction with the recorded piece. Along with not showing rhythm, it's standard form that they will be occassionally wrong, so they're at best a guide to get you started. Tab sites are the worst.

Even published tab books are only created by someone sat down trying their best to decipher what is played, there's no more science than that most of the time.

And the books can be as bad as some online tabs...bits missing, wrong key etc etc. The big publishers are quite bad for it. Stuart Clayton and his Bassline Publishing books are bang on though, others can be very poor in comparison.

...then for a short break from playing TABs; here's an art course:

:P

Joking aside; TABs are ok, but they lack some of the key info.

Welcome and good luck in your playing

If, however, one's objective is not to become Rembrandt, but simply to have a nice colourful picture of a Tigger, PBN are just fine. Similarly, tabs are useful to many. Not much harm done, methinks..?

I think you're overthinking a track like this..
It's a major triad pattern across the two chords...
and you could easy just play them as qtr notes
only..
Without a drummer, it will sound ok, but within
a band it should swing along quite well..and you don't need
to bother about anything else. IMO.

maybe I'm teaching my Granny to suck eggs, but the best way I've found of checking if a tab correct is to use audacity to move the song up an octave or even 2 octaves certainly makes the bass line stand out and you can slow it down, I've found it invaluable

This tab helped me play the piece without using any colored pencils. But most tab I find is just badly written.
