1. Cant help you directly with that song But I tend to listen / watch some bass covers / lessons on youtube and see how they do it See how it sounds when they play it
2. Really enjoyed Metallica, not my type of music by any stretch of the imagination, but when compared to the majority of the others there is a reason they are still going 30+ years later I am just getting old I think, "you cant call that noise music" and all that Would love to go, but CBA with actually going. If that makes sense
3. http://www.rguitars.co.uk/collections/electric/products/g110bks#.UnfGn6ypKvc Cort? Bought my first electric off Richard. Unbeatable customer service IMO Only reason I didnt buy a second was because I got given a bass to play with. :-)
4. Hello I have a hand me down Marshal B25 MK2 Practise Amp Switches on okay, but when playing the sound fades to nothing before coming back again and keeps repeating the cycle of slowly fade out and coming back again Questions being: 1. Is it worth fixing it? From what I can see the last one sold on ebay for ~£30 so I assume a paid for fix would be pointless, but if it is something easy? 2. Due to the low value I assume it isnt really worth putting it up for sale as needing repair I know the likely answer is "bin it", but I hate binning stuff. Suppose I am just double checking that it isnt a super easy fix, or even if someone on here who can fix it wants it as a spare or whatever. Thanks
5. Not technically bass, but first I learnt was White Stripes - Seven Nation Army Does that even count? :-) First proper one was prob Arctic Monkeys - Bet you look good on the dancefloor
6. Been having lessons with Steve for what will be approaching a year I think, how time flies. He is flexible and lessons are relaxed and enjoyable with a true feeling of progress after each and every one. He allows you to progress at your own speed and in keeping with what time you have at home to practise. Lessons are kept interesting with new material introduced regularly, but you never feel like you are falling behind or struggling to keep up. Theory is drip fed in as and when it helps or as a tie in sort of comment explaining how and why it works and how it all related. I travel in from Blackpool for a weekly lesson, so he must be doing something right. Free bump as well. Back to the top
7. Yeah, Frets is okay, friendly staff who will let you have a play around if you ask There is also Rimmers Music as well, but just checked and that is a Northwest(ish) chain
8. I have always used http://www.guitars.co.uk/forum/ That one They seem friendly enough, but I havent tried to sell / exchange anything through it
9. Once a week for me at the moment. Going to my 6th lesson I think tonight. As in think it is my 6th, I am definitely going. :-) Definitely glad that I started them, it is a fair distance to travel at an hour each way or there abouts, but whilst I am making progress I feel that it is money well spent. Plus on days like this it is an excuse to get the bike out. :-)
10. AFAIK It was an hour set originally, BBC Three did the 30 mins highlights I would think there would be some poor mobile footage of the full thing on youtube by now though
11. It is a shame that these sort of incidents seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Not specifically to Fender, just in general. A new neck to Fender is a drop in the ocean and a bit of paperwork. To you it could have potentially been a lean month.
Good stuff! Customer service certainly seems to be getting better most everywhere in recent years
Copies are getting better. Competition is getting tougher. If someone pays a higher price for your product due to the name and the manufacturing qualities they dont come back for a second or third purchase if it doesnt live up to expectation when the time comes to upgrade.

13. So annoying reading this thread at work on dinner where YouTube is blocked, so just blank posts with "This is good" on them. Some good ones listed so far. Cant beat a good cover version of a song.
14. Hello I am looking for a bass tutor in the North West sort of area. Live near Blackpool (Cleveleys), but willing to travel an hour or so. My primary form of transport is a motorbike, although I can borrow a car access to one regularly could be problematic, so use of a bass at lesson would be ideal and allow for much more regular lessons. Beginner level. Thanks in Advance for any recommendations or pointers
15.
I forgot F#!!!!! My apologies. G is the 5th fret on the D string! When I've finished this small collection of vids, I'll PM the link to you. Should help a lot
Thanks, look forwards to it Glad i was correct, had horrible visions then of there not being certain notes available on certain strings for whatever reason.
16. Thanks for that Wouldnt G be the 4th fret on the D string? G# is 5th? Unless i am missing something with the music alphabet. I knew you could play same notes in several different areas. Like U2 WIth or without you Can be played a lot more condensed, but on the original he slides between notes on one string (repeating what i have read) It is all starting to slot into place, just as they say, time and practise.
17. Thanks for your response. I am still at the verticle wall that is music. I know what sounds right, but I wouldnt know a note by sound or name yet I know the main riff (is it a riff?) to Seven Nation Army is: 7, 7, 10, 7, 5, 3, 2 on the A string But as to what notes they are... v0v It isnt really hindering my learning at this (very) early stage not knowing, but i can appreciate that knowing would potentially open up a lot more. To give you an idea of my level I can play the above riff convincingly (other people recognise it), i can play a disjointed F1 theme tune and a tiny bit of pink panther theme. An ideal learning website for me would be for it to be broken down more Most lessons are: Play at full speed Slowly go through the notes Play at full speed End Most songs, as you say are just patterns in different places. Having a website with the ability to loop certain sections would be handy, also to slow it down as well. A website or program like Tab Pro(?) providing the ability to add over the top the other instruments and sounds on the proper full song 1 at a time Like add in the drums to keep time Then add in the guitar(s) Then add in the singer(s) You can then play along to the original, but providing the bass If you imagine a Rock Band / Guitar Hero style setup. Maybe Rocksmith will provide it? There may be a website that does this, but I havent found it yet if there is Not sure on copyright and all the legal side of it would be removing the bass line / drums / guitar to allow you to play your own over it. I suspect it may be like recording the radio. You shouldnt do it, but it is unenforcable. Start to put the radio recording on a website and suddenly you have Sony all over your ass with scary lawyers. Just waffling, typing out my thoughts and random thinkings, but yeah. Maybe i just learn in an odd way. But it seems that most learning material out there is to give you the end result and the ingredients (notes) and chuck you in the deep end.
18. As a music beginner I tend to use YouTube to allow me to just hear the bassline being played, then I use a tab site to get the notes played. Making sure to filter out the poor tabs / lessons As a total beginner to music my pet hate is people showing you a nice beginner scale / song, playing it full speed, then slowly and then launching into "Okay, start on G#" G what? where is that? "Then go to a C" Wait a min i havent found G# yet :-)
19. Guitar now has new strings. The guy in the shop tested it on a couple of the shop amps and it played fine at full (guitar) volume with no crackles or hissing So it must be something in my setup (amp or cables). It also sounded good with someone who could play playing it. Thanks for the welcomes Tutor next, when I get some free money. :-)
20. Yeah, I was considering a tutor, but it is the age old question of, which one... The problem I have is that my primary form of transport is a motorbike, so not great for carrying delicate instruments around. I can get access to a car, but as it isnt mine I cant really expect to borrow it every <insert day of lesson>.
21. Thanks folks Will get it booked into the shop and re-stung and go from there.
22. Erm, Hello New to bass. Quick history Realised at 30 that i couldnt play anything musical whilst I was sat at work one (of many) boring afternoon. That friday I had myself a Vintage Accoustic V400N How hard can it be Very Jumped in the deep end and drowned Guitar in cupboard Got myself some lessons after a few months and got into it. Can strum a few tunes and be musical to a point where you can just about tell what I am playing got myself an electric guitar for "wah wah wah" sounds Never really got into it, so be it. I tried. Then my mate, who bought a bass when he was at Uni said that due to house size and stuff he was chucking his bass away, did I want it Of course I did 4 strings, wow, how hard can that be.... hehehe. :-) Picked it up, got it all tuned and ready to go and had a quick go Loving it so far. Cant play anything yet really. James bond theme, bit of Pink Panther, the F1 intro (not at full speed mind) So as I like it, going to get the bass re-strung as they are likely original strings (1998) The dream, would like to get to be good enough to play in a band. Realistically? Not sure if i have the commitment to get to a level suitable. But hey, dreams and all that So yeah, that is pretty much it. Few questions if I may The bass i have is a Vintage, no idea what model. Also there is a buzz from it when at reasonable volume. Touch the strings and it stops, also touch any of the tuning pegs and it gets quieter. Touch either the volume of the "other" control and it stops. Any ideas? I am going to take it into a guitar shop to get new strings and to be looked at, but I am sure it isnt an expensive guitar in the first place so dont want to get it all re-wired to find out the bass itself is worth a bag of peanuts and a wine gum. Attached are hopefully some pics of it. No model number as far as I can see. Nice scratch on the back though as my mate playedi t intensely for a fair while.
