It's full on and detuned to Eb. I have an excellent transcription with tab from a guitar mag I can scan for you. Don't look at the tab sites. It will take you some effort to learn by ear.

The bass line is split up in to some fairly straight forward grooves which are really fun to play. There's a good transcription over at MySongBook (Guitar Pro 6) if I recall correctly.

Oh and tabs aren't cheating no more than using a thesaurus or dictionary. You only have to ensure that the author has got it right to begin with!

Speaking of GP6, I'd highly recommend it for learning tricky bass lines as you can slow down and repeat difficult sections at your leisure, then mute out the whole of the bass part to play along with the other (albeit electronic sounding) instruments.

You may wish to show your guitar player the following YouTube clip, where a seemingly slightly drunk Nuno goes through the main guitar parts and solo – showing you how to pay them properly! You might find it useful for some of the unison runs as well. Probably not the easiest song in the world to cover…!

There are also clips of him running thru other songs of the Pornograffitti album. Really shows you what a great guitar player he is…

Badger is such an under rated bassist. Always full of grooves.
I've always found the easiest way to get his lines down are to break the down into component parts. With GTFO its a fairly basic groove based around C (B if we're being pedantic). You can get away with the same riff for most of the verse. It pays to ad lib the choruses just to keep it interesting. The only really tricky part is about 60 bars in. There's some nifty slide passages before the solo kicks in.

I always thought this track would be pretty straightforward to play... until I played it with a previous covers band!

Harder than it sounds - and definitely good for the stamina! It's not too hard to play, but it is hard to play well (IMO).
