We found Bass in a hopeless place

So i thought i would start a thread where everyone could point out where they heard a great bassline in and unlikely place. I just heard "Men in black" by Will Smith for the first time in years, and realised how funky the bassline in that was, so i suppose that's the first one.

Please share your unlikely basslines below, and please include the song, and artist. And if you want, put in a link to a youtube video of it.

Alright, Get set... GO!

Not so much the bassline as tone - a snippet of the 80's hit 'party fears 2' or whatever it was called came up on the radio this morning. I'd forgotten hown strongly the bass cuts through in that song and what a great tone it is (sounds very P bass to me but could have been something different)

Edit : Now I've found it I realise it's actually a good bassline as well, forget the histrionic singing though! ;)

Dragonforce's latest album. There's a few really nice fills and solo sections from Fred on there, they've finally learnt that the bass channel fader goes up as well as down...

2:56ish, nothing too difficult, but it just works. I used to hate all of their singles, but they've really hit it out of the ballpark with The Power Within. If you watch Episode 3 of their making of videos, it shows how insane Vadim is on the keys as well.

That song samples Patrice Rushton's 'Forget me Nots', with Freddie Washington on bass, if you're interested.

When I was young, my parents had a tape of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs - not my bag at all, stuff like Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Send in the Clowns etc. Then, BOOM, this gem..

I was listening to some Aretha Franklin the other day and was struck by how prominent and how tasteful the bass in 'Border Song (Holy Moses)' is.

Anyone know how played it? Kaye, Jamerson?

Chuck Rainey. The whole of the 'young grifted and black' album is bass gold!

I guess I should nominate Metallica's And Justice For All (the album) - remastering or enhancing discovered a bit of bass! For instance this version of Blackened...

I haven't played the youtube bit yet but.
I'd have thought that would have required remixing or dubbing to get any bass audible. The bass was originally mixed so low I doubt remastering would be able to do much.

Now Metallica own their back catalogue I hope they do remix it.
Although I doubt it as it was James' and Lars' desicion to basically remove the bass.

Why did they do that? If i was going to cut anything from metallica, it would probably be Lars's below par drumming!

The clip sounds better when listened to with (decent) headphones, by the way.
I guess Lars and James will allow official remastering sooner or later, possibly when publishing a new version of AJFA can bring in a bit of cash  Also, after the group therapy thingy they appear to have - erm - cleared some issues. Or at least one hopes.

I liked that. Very tasteful compared to their previous offerings. I will have to give the whole album a listen.

Metallica would have been a place that I would have expected to find good bass......Jason Newsted is pretty well know as is Robert Trujillo. And they are a guitar based rawk band.

You missed my irony then... it was surprising to find bass in such a hopeless place as AJFA, where it had notoriously been lowered to inaudible levels in the mix.
