Grand Wazoo Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 Congratulations that is beautiful overall, although there's a couple of details that annoy me about the look, first the knobs, don't like them, they look like something you get on a Made in Indonesia bass, secondly, I find those string retainers bars on the headstock to be both ugly and a pain when changing strings as you need to feed the string under that bar and then it is a mare to keep the string taught as you wind it around the peg for the first time. These Metros really do sound very close to the NYC basses . The only real perceivable difference is in the weight and the slightly different sound that the chambering on the NYC gives . The low B on the NYC Modern 5 is the best I have ever heard , and it's a 34 inch scale too , thank goodness . What makes all Sadowsky basses so great is that they are very practical instruments ; they're not cheap but all the money has gone into quality craftsmanship and intelligent design . They play great and sound great for any style of music . Why haven't I got one ? Because Roger puts a bit too much fallaway into the NYC necks for my taste , but that's just my own preference . [/quote] That's good to know.. I'm mulling over whether to get a Metro MV5 but no-one ever seems to have one in stock, so I may have to take a punt and just order one from the Gallery.. Roger provides the same plasticky knobs on the NYC models he sells for $5,000 . I think it wouldn't be too much to ask for matching chrome knobs here. The string retainers work and look fine for me. [/quote] I really like the knobs on Sadowskys and I doubt the string retainer would present a problem for me either. It's a lovely bass.
