spongebob
Looks like every bassist who's ever had a record out is 'underrated' by the look (and length) of this thread!

[/quote] lol also shows that bass playing is a lot more than soloing pyrotechnics, backflips, triple slapping etc (tough I wouldn´t mind knowing a little bit more about some of the these things)
paulconnolly
Has anybody mentioned Mike Rutherford yet? Always thought those early Genesis albums had great bass playing. Went to see Regenesis the other night and judging by the effort the bass player was putting in they look pretty tough to play too

BILL POSTERS
Hows about John Ford from The Strawbs ? I'd forgotten him till I dug out Burstin at the Seams. The albums not quite as good as I remembered it, but still some nice lines there. What I was listening to when I started playing, but could never pay any of them right back then. Lord Sausage
Confession time! I have a penchant for pre 1987 Whitesnake, it may not be elegant or high brow but it's great pub rock n roll. plus any band that has contained Jon Lord , Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Micky Moody has to be alright. Anyway, the bass playing is pretty tidy on them albums. Being an ignoramus though I'm not sure who the players are, how's that for underated. I know Neil Murray played at some point but it's the guys before him , i think. Here's a couple of examples. http://youtu.be/wAIxaGWXVBA http://youtu.be/K_gtdGDSnDA
pietruszka
Has Adam Yauch been mentioned? His playing was great to listen to, his playing on The Mix Up was by no means boundry pushing or overly complex but fantastic none the less. Wiki says he played on all the albums but on that gig at donnington 1983 its not him on bass.
