Alpha-Dave Posted September 1, 2012 Share Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) Hi, Up for grabs is my 6-string ACG, it's a brilliant instrument, but it doesn't suit the style I now play, and it's too good to sit in its case. Original specs: ACG bass serial number 014 Skelf 6 string headless. Body core White Limba top and back Flame Redwood black veneer accent line. Neck Mac ebony/bubinga. Fingerboard Acrylic Impregnated Spalted/Flame Maple. Ramp Redwood and White LImba with black accent veneer incorporating 2 ACG single coil pickups. Black Hardware. ABM headless unit. ACG filter based pre-amp. East low battery indicator. Tuned B to C. Finish 60/20 Gig bag is included, with adjustment tools. The p'ups were changed by Alan from the original humbuckers to single coils, which really brought it to life. Alan has retained a block of the body wood+capping woods for the ramp in case any p'ups come along in the future that could be retrofitted by changing the ramp-block. wrinkleygit Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 Stunning, not sure the wrinkly fingers could cope with another string tho', had a look at the old build thread but couldn't see anything on string spacing at bridge or scale length, does this use std 34" double ball strings or does it have clamps at the blunt end, mike b. The string spacing is adjustable, it's currently set up as Alan originally did where the distance between the edges strings is set, but due to the differing thickness of the strings, the spacing between the centres of the strings increases as the strings get thicker. Many high-end makers do this, Warwick included. It's effectively 16 mm IIRC. You don't need double ball-end strings, the head stock is able to clamp down on normal strings. I own a ACG Recurve 6 SC (http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/198/) and it is the best bass I've owned in terms of playability and sound. ACG is the #1 bass guitar brand for me, right now. Some queries on this one: 1. ACG site (http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/125/) says this had 2 ACG FB pickups with coil switching. How do the two switches work now? 2. Is it a ACG-01 filter preamp? 3. What is the string spacing? Is it adjustable? 4. Is it an asymmetric neck with 0-radius? (I love that design.) Thanks, Vic.
