1. I had an ibanez SR 506 once that was really, really bad. Worst sound ever.
 2.
You are extremely shallow and I was extremely entertained by Coltrane.
You clearly don't know the meaning of the word "shallow". But I guess you folks are willing to do anything in order to show politeness, even misunderstanding simple words.
 3. Wow thats an amazing piece! PS and great playing as well! Wow these Italians are really excelling on bass these days.
 4.
I guess some people just don't appreciate art when they see it. No biggie. We're not all perfect
Touché!
 5.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wniXxeTJlyM
http://www.google.com/search?q=face%20palm
 6.
Thanks, hope you enjoyed it as much as I
Not really.
 7.
Then allow me to get things back on track: Expression. Greatness. Beauty. Honesty. Amazement. This video has them all. When I watch this I cry; not out of being entertained but because of the sheer trancendental beauty of it. Like being connected to God himself.
Good for you.
 8.
Splendid, then we agree. Time to eat your own dog food.
Ah the famous Bass Chat politeness. Never gets old.
 9.
No reasoning there at all. Merely an observation and a suggestion. However, do please continue. I find your posts most entertaining. Sorry about that.
That's what I mean by being consequent. Don't expect any kind of respect if you're unable to give some.
 10.
That, my friend, is marvellous. You should consider adding that to your other self-penned words of wisdom in your sig. It would help slower-witted types (like me, clearly) to easily identify the extent of your conceit/self-deification and perhaps think twice before mounting yet another failed attempt to appeal to reason.
Didn't see much reasoning there, mostly just another dose of " Basschat politeness"
 11.
Out of nosiness I had to go to the youtube page of one of the more high profile 'contributors' to this particular thread. Judging by the comments they've made over the last couple of days, I have to say I was really surprised to find that the person wasn't about 15 years old. IMO this particular person is also unlikely to make the 10 best youtube players thread.
Another proof of the Basschat politeness?
 12.
Just ignore him, he's an idiot.
Is this the politeness moderators talk about? Thats cheering...
 13.
I am starting think you may lack confidence as a musician. Don't take this the wrong way and get upset now! But how do you communicate with and feed off other musicians if you don't feel you are able to because you think you know enough about what they do?
I do it probably the same way as others do but knowing my limitations. I may suggest something to the drummer but ultimately I'll have to trust his expertise on his craft. So I normally speak general musical terms. And of course I am insecure as a musician. There's so much left to learn I sometimes don't even know where to begin!
 14.
It beggars belief that you assume everbody on here is not up to your standard. How on earth do you come to your conclusions? Some of our members WILL be more accomplished musicians than your good self. My assumption. Your assumptions are getting to the laughable stage now.
That's a lie to state that I've said or implied something like that. Im not the best. Music is not a competition. Laughable is the inability to accept different points of view. You folks have a hard time accepting we are different and get desperate when someone doesn't share your goals and dreams. You get insecure and fear people being different. I'm ok with different people. As long as they can back up their bragging. I guess there's a general lack of cojones hindering people coming out of their safe anonymity on the Internet. Live and let live but be consequent.
 15.
Inti, do you ever criticise the Swedish government?
Seldom. And if I do I wouldn't expect to be taken seriously. I know nothing about politics so I know my place...I'm not arrogant.
 16.
What's best for metal, a P or a J..? (Shhh... He's thinking...)
P. (and I didn't even need to think about it)
 17.
I don't think you understood Gust0o's message, so I'll make it a bit easier to understand. You will be polite and civil to the members here. Or you can leave the forum. Your choice, pick one.
Sorry but threats don't work here. I'm having a civilized discussion so please feel welcome to argument without abusing your role as a moderator.
 18.
No, perhaps not respect, but the members here are demanding politeness - and that has everything to do with their value as human beings. Amateur or not, you will provide that to them.
Sorry but threats don't work here. I'm having a civilized discussion so please feel welcome to argument without abusing your role as a moderator.
 19.
a) your answer doesn't work. b )But it's you using them to make an argument - not me, so it's you that needs to at least explain where your ideas come from.
a) It works. It works perfectly. It may not work for you but that's another story. b ) Actually no. I don't need to tell where my ideas come from. Because I don't care in the same way an amateur bass player doesn't get better than he needs to get. The main difference here is that it's not me demanding to be respected in a philosophical forum... but here all amateurs and inmstrument collectors demand their views to be respected as if they were the ultimate truth. I'm very sorry but that's not going to happen. Not until you know more than me in my field. My apologies but that's the way it is and it has nothing to do with peoples value as human beings. It's all about knowing your place....You get that point don't you? It's your urge to know were my thinking comes from so its your job. You have the tools, not me. People use math all the time without knowing the theoretical part. Does it mean they can't use math?... Please.
 20.
(if I were going to be aggressive in my argument here I would say that maybe my playing is so crap that you would not respect any points I might make about bass guitar, but unless you know all these people are and why I brought them up, please don't talk sh!t to me about art)
Exactly. Its within your field to know that stuff. Its within my field to play and know the bass. Whatever I think about it in a philosophical way is an amateurs point of view and I would NEVER argue with an expert in the field of analysing schools of thought. So call it whatever you want, structuralist, platonic thats your job and I dont have the right to question it because my knowledge is limited. THAT would be arrogant...and I frankly dont care either.
 21.
So was I.
Good for you!
 22.
Thanks. I wish you the best of luck with your future.
My future is now and it's not a matter of luck but sure.
 23.
OK mate, time for some honesty. You feel people misunderstand what you mean by art and entertainment, and you also don't understand what arrogance means. 1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance. 2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others. From your posts and your PMs to me, there is no question that you are arrogant. And you are in a very precarious position. A professional classical concert pianist with the same attitude as you would rip you to pieces in this game you are playing. But music is not a game. And the vast majority of professional highly skilled musicians draw their inspiration from many sources. Music as an art is a communication tool for your humanity. You need to fill your humanity with positive energy, you seem full of negative energy and bitterness that the majority of people can not understand the complexity of your music. However, When I listen to your music and then listen to Sir John Tavener, or Arvo Part, or Elgar, your music seems very simple. You are a very talented musician, but I can no longer enjoy what you do.
Sure, whatever makes you feel good.
 24.
Despite your aggressive and uncompromising defence of your point of view, I can understand your train of thought and where it originates from. I think you believe that people who reach very high levels of craft in their chosen artistic field are unappreciated by the majority of people and this greatly disappoints you. You feel that highly skilled musicians transcend mere 'entertainment' and progress to 'art'. Maybe you feel that lesser skilled musicians resort to, or are only capable of, 'entertainment'. You perhaps feel that the lines between art and entertainment are blurred and that people are unable to decide for themselves what is art and what is design, very disappointing that people are so uneducated and unable to appreciate it. However, although some chart music could be considered to be crafted for entertainment purposes, many successful pop and rock bands really do FEEL their music and communicate through it, it is 'art'. Music serves many purposes, and all skill levels can create music that is art, and likewise entertainment. Playing your instrument to a very high level of skill does not necessarily mean that the player is able to create art, that comes from the human being behind the instrument. The skills and the equipment are simply the tools.
Totally agreed, thank you. At last someone with brains thats doesnt need to rely on the "arrogance" or "troll" card to defend their insecurities and lack of understanding. Shame on the rest of you.
 25.
No, because NO ONE IS WRONG OR RIGHT on this entirely SUBJECTIVE issue. Phrases like: Give the unmistakeable impression that you think your definitions are the absolutely correct ones. I, and most of the people here are more than happy to discuss this point with you, exchange ideas and compare views. But you have to enter such a discussion with your views malleable, or at least accepting of the validity of other views. There is no one true definition of art and entertainment. I listen to a lot of music that most musicians would dismiss as random noise, but I consider it art. I consider many video games to be works of art, other people consider them to be a vacuous medium devoid of any artistry whatsoever. Neither of us is wrong, my hope is that I can put forth a well reasoned argument for why I consider video games to be art that makes others re-evaluate their views. So if you're willing to discuss the topic, put forth your views in a coherent, logical, mature way, and consider the views and rebuttals of others, with an overriding principle of respect maturity, then welcome, you'll love it here. But if you're going to continue slinging arrogant, snide and elitist jibes around the place then you'll probably find it very frustrating here. Not least because I'll probably feel compelled to repeat this same long-winded speech every time.
What you say sounds pretty fair except for the simple fact that the meaning of words is not subjective. "Entertainment is something that holds the attention and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience's attention." -Wiki So you should ask yourself: How pure is something that's made with the sole purpose of satisfying an audience? Don't play the arrogance card on me, it's getting pretty old and tired by now.
