Got my Bongo 4HH today.

OMG.

Structural reinforcements to house and furniture required.

All other instruments packed up into their little cases and put into the toy cupboard. Bless them.

OMG.

I had a bongo, it played like butter. To this day I wish I could have got on with the complex preamp.

I always thought more of the 5/6 strings as ive heard alot about the B strings on them but the tone from a four is still ass kicking!

I just wished they looked a bit more rock and roll - or maybe that's the point, you could wear them low and look like the ultimate punk

Just get it repainted in red-white-blue "swirl" and you're sorted

Haha, that would do it - might need a few stickers, too

But yeah, if you know it's fugly, but rock it anyway = punk, no?

I mean, you only ever hear good things about these basses.

I never really saw a problem with the looks. There are probably a lot of folk who haven't actually seen a Bongo in the flesh. I hadn't until mine arrived. They are actually quite small. What is it about the neck that folk don't like? I've small hands and am used to a 74 Jazz with a stick insect's manhood for a neck and I find the Bongo just fine. I'd been a bit concerned about a satin finish but was pleased to find it nice and shiny.

Personally out of all neck profiles, I find they go in this order of preference for me:

Stingray/Sterling/Bongo
P Bass
J Bass

J bass necks are a little too skinny for me, but I love the sound and aesthestics of a Jazz.

Warwick 5 string necks are at the bottom. Euggh.

I did own a StingRay for a while in the late 80s. Prefer the feel of the Bongo in every way. But that's not to say I don't like StingRays. I do. Just I'm starting to think the Bongo is a bit of a well kept secret.
