FJ1200 Posted March 29, 2008 Share Posted March 29, 2008 I have a video of Colin on the TV with Alexis Corner from back in the 80's - one of my most treasured possessions. I only had a b&w tv at the time, I commented on it on one of those videos and some guy had the same video in colour. Can't remember the TV series but it's great. Going to put it on DVD when I get chance. Saw him in the late 80's at the Barbican Guitar Festival on the Peavey stand. Got a photo somewhere. yorks5stringer Posted April 1, 2008 Share Posted April 1, 2008 Ah, I feel a major reminisce coming on... I saw Back Door twice in the early 70's ( pre 73) when I was still at school up in Newcastle. The first time was around the re-release of their first album called "Back Door" by Warners, as I think they had done a private white label pressing first. After the gig at the Mayfair?? I wandered into the dressing room ( the innocence of youth) and got the sleeve signed by CH himself: he was busy wiping off his strings! The second time I saw them was at Biddle? Arts centre near Washington and they augmented the band with Alexis Corner, who really just sat in with them rather than being integral to the band. Seeing Back Door was one of the reasons I took up playing the bass... as I did not play it at the time. Not long after I went to Leeds Poly, got an EB2, a Truvoice 50 watt amp, and 15" cab the size of a Smeg fridge. It still took me 15 more years before I actually played in bands! PS I've got both Back Door and 8th Street Hights on vinyl, with Back Door signed by the Band if anyone wants to make me an offer? KevB Posted May 11, 2009 Share Posted May 11, 2009 I'd only seen him in Whitesnake and wasn't aware of his earlier stuff when I saw him at an Alexis Korner tribute show in Buxton. He did San Francisco Bay Blues as a solo bass spot and I realised just how good he really was. I still have the copy I bought second-hand from Judd's in Canterbury around 1974. It was a 'eureka' moment for me, though I've spent most of the intervening years realising just how big the talent gap is. One of these days I'll get around to digitising it.
