1. Thanks for the response all,it's definately a misaligned bridge.Looks like the grooved saddles is the way to go.
2.
I would have thought sorting the bridge would be the route to take... unless you're not happy with the pup(s)
Changing the pickups seems a lot easier! Plus I do like bar magnet pickups.
3. My orginal 78 Fender Precision is finally getting some well deserved TLC after 20 years of hard work.It has a slightly misaligned bridge which puts the E string over one of the poles on the pickup which makes the E louder than the other strings. (Not an inherant problem for my style of playing...) I had a similar problem with my Tokai P which I dealt with by replacing the pickups with passive EMG's with bar magnets.I'm considering the same route with the Fender, but I'm wary of altering what has become a vintage instrument.I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience of active EMG's on a Fender? Is it worth doing?
4.
Good to see others had issues with the E strings, wasn't just me then
Had more than a few break.
5.
Yeah - Jaco sounded sh*t with them, didn't he?!
F*cking awful...
6. Rotosound are crap.Wouldn't use them even if I was paid to.DR's on stage,Daddario's for everything else.
7. Had a brand new Marshall 4x10 blow a speaker halfway through a gig. Shortly after this the guitarist had a brand new Marshall JCM 800 die halfway through a gig.I think Marshall may have had a quality control problem in the early 90's.Haven't used Marshall since. Also don't use Rotosound for the same reason.
8. Never,I repeat,NEVER get rid of anything with Moog written on it.You will regret it.Trust me on this.
9. Nice one, muchly thanks both.Wondered why it was such a quiet bass.
10. The cab might get bored,but otherwise,no.
11. Having decided to restore the Marathon I've had sitting in it's case for over a decade, can any owners advise me on what the stereo outputs are actually supposed to do? Just 2 outputs or do they split the pickup ?

13. Personally,I wouldn't take a laptop any where near a sweaty stage environment.Been using drum machines for decades. My personal favourite is the Boss DR660,programme it by playing the pads in realtime, quantise, off you go.And easier than trying to get a drummer to drool in stereo.
14. 1979 - L/H Columbus P bass through an H/H VS Musician guitar head and an unbranded 1 x 15 W bin. 2010 - L/H 1979 Fender P bass through a Peavey Mk.6 400 watter through 2 1 x 15 cabs.
15. I used to consider my 78 Precision heavy until I picked up our guitarists Les Paul.I stopped complaining after that.
16. DR Black Beauties here.Very nice strings indeed, the coating does wear off after a few weeks of 360 bpm plectrum hammering,£30 seems about right but do shop around.
17. I play it whilst ducking the drumsticks that ususally fly in my direction.
18. Seems like a guitarist ego problem to me.Get lots of people to say "the bass isn't loud enough" after gigs.
19.
I'm not the slightest bit bothered what colour a bass is-as long as it's black.
Damn right.Although I have plenty of basses that aren't black because the colour was not a priority.
20. Selmer again.Zodiac this time, when I started in the late '70s old valve amps were dirt cheap, some for good reason - they were crap. It's worth big bucks now.Do I regret px ing it for an HH VS Musician? Hell yes...
21.
a pixelated blur?
Yup.Taken years to achieve.
22. D'addario because I like them and DR's because they're black. And, happily they sound good too.
