1. I've had this problem on a couple of P basses. In my case the string was misaligned ( badly fitted bridge, thanks Fender..) which lead to the E string being directly over one of the pole pieces instead of between them.If this is the problem, you can get saddles with sideways adjustment to realign the string,or do what I did which is replace the pickup with bar magnet pickups (no pole pieces) such as EMG's.The passive version is cheap and didn't noticably affect the sound.Or you could try a lighter guage E string. Also, rather than raising the other pickup, have you tried lowering the one under the E string?
2. Not the best photograph I've ever taken... Burns aren't exactly obscure, but I've never seen another left handed Sonic short scale.
3.
Maybe I've misunderstood what you're hinting at. Is it that you used to trouser stuff you found? Are there rules regarding lost property found by employees being handed in or was the official line that it was fair game for staff to help themselves as a perk of the job?
Nobody checked.Ever! Personally if it had a name on it ( like the passport I found) or could be traced (mobile phones etc) I would hand it in to the station staff, who never seemed too interested.Loose change, the occasional tenner, and many umbrellas and even a pair of underpants were unlikely to be handed in.My own ethics would have not let me help myself to some one else's instrument, but no one would have stopped me if I'd chosen to do so.
4. Glad to hear you got it back! Now I can mention I used to work for First Great Western cleaning trains.Oh the things I found.Consider yourself VERY lucky you got it back..
5. The entire recorded works of Joy Division. I'm a gloomy f*cker.
6.
Give up now before; You have to buy a bigger car. You ruin your back. You permanently empty your wallet. You go deaf. You get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You die from drowning in a pool of your own vomit. Need I go on?
5 out of 6......
7. Be friends with the drummer. Do as much recording as possible.
8.
What is this 'PA' of which you speak?
I suggest we speak of it in a very loud voice..
9. What do the rest of the band think? Nice spanner, btw.
10. I've done a lot of sound engineering.Personally I prefer to DI the amp, because that's what I'd want as a bassist. However, just as there are crap engineers out there, there are crap bassists who have no idea how to set their amp up,there are crap bass amps, and sometimes DI'ing the bass is simply a more practical option. Also,if you could hear your sound from the PA,bear in mind you're behind it and what it sounds like 20 metres in front will be very different. Sound waves from low frequencies are long.Simply ask your next engineer if he/she can DI the amp.If they say no,ask them why.And NEVER piss the engineer of, even if they're an incompetent twat, some of them are cynical bitter twisted people who are likely better connected than you are and can do serious damage to your reputation.....The voice of experience!
11. Not good.I've crossed everything I can for you.Is he still your friend?
12.
Don't suppose Stradivarius ever used ply
Or pickups..I think the type - and quality - of the wood used will make a subtle difference, but by the time it's gone through an amp, some speakers,a dodgy SM57 and a PA to an audience whose interest in audio perfection has been compromised by alcohol, who is going to know?
13. Ugly.But I doubt there's a left handed option so I can ignore it.
14. I use my fingers to hold the plectrum.
15. Plenty of instruments in my local Cash Converters, although that may say more about Gloucester..
16.
As you were 3 years old..no one would pay 200GBP for your skills. I honestly hope this has changed too
I wish...
17. I think the simple answer is they're now old enough to be considered vintage.Although I still can't get my head round the fact that a bass I bought for £200 when it was 3 years old is now worth lots of money.
18. Or possibly they could just all be idiots.
19.
If you drop a b*ll*ck onstage...glare at the guitarist BEFORE he glares at you.
I am so using that one.
20. If you make a mistake, play it twice. That way people wil think it's some complex jazz structure rather than you f*cked up.
21. Personally I find flat radius fingerboards far less comfortable to play, which is one reason I always seem to gravitate back to Fenders.
