1. I did a load of research when I looked at it. Moses are the bottom of the bunch with many horror stories out there. Modulus are the top guys closely followed by Status... although I had a horrific experience with an aftermarket neck from Status. If you haven't had experience of a graphite neck, don't invest in one without trying one first. They are a different beast and can be unfulfilling to those that love the sound of wood. I like graphite - but they can be somewhat clinical sounding... which may or may not be what you want.
2. Just to echo the above... unless you are prepared to fork out K-Array money (which given your budget indicated by your speaker choices), I would stay clear. Two reasons: you can get better performance out of traditional boxes... and the coverage is greater too (those portable line arrays tend to be very directional in comparison - which can be your advantage, or disadvantage depending upon the room that you are in - but without knowing more about your room, I can't comment much further). What I will say though, given what you are saying, it sounds like it could be a challenging room, so knowing how to tune the PA to you room is an essential task to learn. 2x RCF 745, 2x RCF 8003 and XR18 for a similar budget as your JBL/Behringer combo, will eat the JBL in terms of volume, vocal clarity and bass. Yes, eat your heart out all those haters that get sick of seeing the numbers 7 4 and 5 - but that box, (and the 735) is unique in the fact that they are lightweight boxes with such a high quality HF horn that is normally the reserve of cabs three times the price. RE: Requirements for sub, depends on how packed your room gets. If you put subs into a reflective, empty room, you are going to get a load of mud. If your room is full of people, you are going to get a lot of that low energy absorbed... so sub reinforcement will be required. The 735s or 745s on their own will be perfect for acoustic acts etc... but a room for 700 is a big ask for such a small PA - but again, it depends if you need the sound to be likened to that of a gig or that where you just need coverage on a dance floor. Also, remember that volume is measured in dB, not Watts... so just because you have amps capable of putting out a lot of Watts, it doesn't mean anything if it can't be converted to usable volume at the speaker.
3. zero rehearsal? man, I've played wedding gigs where the first time the band has met has been in the carpark. "how long have you guys been playing together?" "oh, years... we go way back"
4. Looking for a sale only I'm afraid.
5. As the title says, EBS Microbass 2. Boxed (I bought from new and it's only ever been used for recording). Surplus to requirements due to setup change.
6. Looking at DS' Facebook wall, I never want to have my pic taken with him. He's like the grim reaper - appearing with all these musicians that have passed.
7.
I'll have to check that link! You wouldn't happen to know of any battery powered (possibly even belt clip mount) IEM headphone amplifiers that can accept two STEREO signals for mixing, rather than just the usual single stereo or dual mono?
I know what you are up to (been there myself) - and nope. I think this is about the closest - http://www.rockonaudio.com/?page=past_news
8. OOOOHHHHHHHhhhhh. Want! http://www.prosoundweb.com/channels/av/lectrosonics-to-debut-duet-digital-wireless-monitor-system-at-nab/ Digital at last with latency figures that will work! 4 hours is pretty chuff though.
9.
Sounds like a good choice. It always kills me when people here on BC complain about songs that people in an everyday audience actually like enough to sing along to and get up and dance. Maybe we should all play really obscure jazz that people hate so we can go off and smirk at how much cleverer and musically hip we are. Of course, our audience would end up being just us playing to/with ourselves . . .
Quick, let me get my pedals. Wanna hear my ambient whale noise version of Mustang Barry?
10.
I was going to fix my Sheehan pedal to the pedalboard today. In two minds now!
Personally, if you are worried about such things, I'd get a thin piece of wood and cable tie it to the bottom of the pedal... and fix the velcro to the wood.... or you could screw the wood into the existing screw holes if you want to avoid cable ties.
11.
Couldn't you just attach the velcro to the foam?
It will make a right mess of the foam if you remove the velcro at a later date. Be aware of that and resale value of the pedal. Bloomin' daft idea the foam isn't it?
12. Just so you don't get caught out - It doesn't track lower than an A.
13.
Perhaps he played it ironically?
I love playing Mustang for this very reason... a challenge in playing the most inappropriate bass possible.
14. Are you running the latest firmware on your mixer? I know that the UI16's software has been plagued with it's fair share of bugs. Most seem to have been fixed now though... so worth giving it a shot.
15.
Fine tuna..! Mmm..!
Oh-oh. Here come the Tickled Trout fish puns.
16. Good to hear! Enjoy. I love DR strings!
17.
It was The Acorn, oak trees and acorns must have been my confusion! Total sh*t hole.
+10000000 Keyed car victim. Fights. Damaged cars. Damaged guitars. The last straw was the police on horseback in the pub.
18. There's only a few instruments that I would have a big interest in their auction price... And thats - Brian May's original Red Special Macca's Hofner (both current and the original stolen one (although this one has significantly less history)) Macca's LH '59 LP Anybody want to add any extras to the list...?
19.
I'm taking this a possible step further, leave it with me as I have been working on an idea for the last few months and this thread has had me thinking I may return to it. I've found a few things online today that have my interest!
PM me with your ideas, lets start pooling. I may be able to accelerate some of your thinkings.
20.
@EBS_freak thomann E-Bass gigbag looks great. aguilar th350 is 8.25" W x 7.5" D x 3" H do you think the front pocket has this kind of depth in it? Cheers Dan
I shall find the bag out for you later and see if its got enough space.
21. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_e_bass_gigbag_premium.htm?ref=search_prv_3 This may be the ticket. I've got one - but can't remember for the life of me if the pocket is padded or not. But can get some dimensions for you later to see if the Aggie would fit in there.
22.
I'll come back to the rest of the post later as I must dash, but I wanted to ask if you have tried the 5 driver system as well as the T1? Also intrigued about the distortion. I'm looking online for other reviews with the issue. Would you know where would be a good place to find feedback regarding the Live! system?
I haven't tried the 5 driver system - but my gut feeling is that going with the single driver and doubling up the mids and the tops will leave you will the same problems as the T1 - the lower driver on its own just doesn't given you the support in the bottom end. I've even tried a multi band compressor on the output from my desk before it gets sent to the ears but even with trying to control live bass, it's just not in the same camp as a dual low. My dual low copes way better than the T1 and of course the JHs are a different ballgame all together - akin to what you are used to with your 64s. Just to clarify, there's two distortion problems - one with the mics when the environment in which you are performing is too loud for the mics. Second, where the drivers can't cope with the bass. Review wise, ACS is a funny one as they have pretty much sewn up the market in the UK as they are undoubtably the easiest and quickest way of getting customs in the UK. Having a presence at John Henry's has pretty much got their foot in the door with every sound tech and artist that passes through. Don't get me wrong, they are good - but I think in terms of the actual inears, they are behind the curve. If you want ear protection though, ACS are amongst the best, no doubt. I would say the majority of ACS users - and especially those that are singing their praises - have no other benchmark. Yes, compared to a standard off the shelf monitors, ACS will seem way and above what they are used to. If you speak to guys that have had a whole host of monitors, see how many will mention ACS... I can tell you that it won't be many. The Live system is a fairly big selling point for them, I think it's only ACS and Sensaphonics (and it should come as no surprise that those companies have links from way back) who currently offer such a system commercially.
23. Not my cuppa tea - but each to their own!
24. Goblin - are you running wired or not? The reason why I ask is that I was looking into the ambient thing quite heavily and investigated the use of a stereo lav mic clipped to the back of my collar. The idea is the cables would be joined on a small box with a belt clip would then take the jacks from a stereo jack and join them to a socket that would run a thin multicore to a small mixer. I was toying with the idea of including another socket for a cable to the bass also. At the end of the day, most things are possible if you can find the appropriate multicore cable. May be worth an investigation... I never got around to realising the design but if dood and goblin are up for it, I'm up for a BC collaboration project! It would certainly be cheaper than the ACS solution - and probably more performant... but obviously a bit more clunky to get wireless as the ambient pack is what is replacing the mixer (and a damm expensive alternative it is too!) EDIT: just went through my notes and found the mic that I was going to build the solution around - Sony ECMCS3 - Don't know much about the mic, it was in the frame mostly due to its hard L/R separation and easy of clipping it to the back/front of my collar. The case would be like this - http://cpc.farnell.c...nectors-AV18089 (Taking inspiration from Fischer!) Belt clip would be screwed into the side and the relevant D chassis neutriks mounted top and bottom (the top would be a custom for the two mini jacks (three if you want to include bass) - for the bottom multicore I was thinking 5 pin midi or 7 pin midi depending whether you wanted to include the bass - and whether you wanted to run balanced. Dood - you could route it so your headphone output goes to your Fischer stick so you still have you volume control on that available to you... I nearly found the right mixer too - Denon Professional DN-306X (I wanted something rack mountable so there wouldn't be cables and little mixers everywhere) - but it doesn't have a headphone out (or crucially stereo!) and didn't want another headphone amp to worry about - Dood - you wouldn't have the problem with your Fischer stick - thats got the amp in it hasn't it? So you would just take the XLRs out and let the Fischer do the rest. What you think?
