1. Hi there discerning denizens of the effects marketplace! I am considering moving on my Tech 21 VT Bass, a Tech 21 Oxford, and a Michael Angelo Distortion by T rex The VT Bass (version 1) bought for £150:Looking for £100 posted in UK NOW GONE probably one of the most celebrated effects pedals ever created for the bass.. As you may already be aware, this pedal emulates a wide variety of Ampeg tones, from the Fliptop through the SVT, to a more modern aggressive tone. I have used it twice, and despite much tweaking, i have realised that the ampeg tone is not for me. It still has the funky tin, sticker and associated gubbins. Secondly, the Oxford (bought for£150): NOW GONE This pedal models the Orange amp sound from the 70's through to more modern stoner stuff. I bought this whilst trying to find the 'right' drive sound for me and to be possibly used in a a Black Sabbath tribute band. Again, whilst I could get a really NIB type sound, it just didn't 'do it' for me. Only used two or three times. And Finally the T Rex Michael Angelo Distortion (bought for £99).Looking for £80 posted in UK Essentially a tubescreamer - Sounds great for pushing a valve amp with a guitar, but no great shakes for me on bass. It has been sitting on the side for a while, and i would much rather see someone get some use from it In terms of trades, I'm looking for a Phat Phuk B in particular, but I am prepared to listen to what you guys might have to offer! Cheers!
2. sub £100 it's worth trying the ibanez pd7, Ashdown Lomenzo hyperdrive mentioned above, Hardwire tube overdrive The MD2 lost low end in my rig, as did the Cool cat TOD. I appreciate it's a little over budget, but the new Markbass Bass Tube Marker retails from effectspowersupplies.com @ £110ish It does so many sounds, that its well and truly earnt its space on my boards for two of my bands

4. It seems to be very common, especially whenever I sound check with someone other than my 'tame' soundman. The assumption of soundmen seems to be that the bass player will play only with a clean sound With each of my bands I have normally at least two drive sounds and possibly chorus and filters or octave These days if I have a soundman I'm not used to, I'll just give them my core sound and then add the other stuff when required. I always ensure my relative levels are sorted before the line/ sound check begins

6.
Why would a chair wear a tuxedo? And that must be quite a big chair
I thought "songs from the big chair" was tears for fears
7. my hardwire tube od can do this. I use mine to give that slight 'sparkly' edge of breakup sound
8. An odb3 works well in an industrial music environment. Also the multiwave bass distortion is probably worth a look A pick might be usefull too. You'll need lots of volume/ punch as well!
9. just want to add that my wife uses one of these to great effect with her saxophone
10. sorry dude - not likely for a couple of weeks
11. i used one a while ago for a few shows. However at volume i did notice a little bass loss in the mix. On your own however, it ROCKS!
12. i have the tube marker in the same series. It sounds great, and the inherent tone is exactly the right sound for me, so if i were on the lookout for another octave, it'd definitely be on the shopping list! In fact, the next time i head up to Stompbox, it's on the list of bits to try.
13. I spent some time with one not long after they were released The eq is very powerful, and the gate functions beautifully, however it didn't make me say wow! No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find a sound good enough to cut through in a heavy les Paul/ Marshall mix Ymmv of course- it's worth a try after all
14. bought a string tree from mel for my project bass all kinds of helpful, i wouldn't hesitate to buy from her again! Cheers Mel!
15.
I'd like to hear more about the problems you've had with the EBS and Pork Loin Dudewheresmybass, also when people talk about grittiness I'm not sure what I'm after more smooth warmth so I'm not sure if the hardwire would be for me?
The ebs and way huge seemed to always get lost in the mix no matter what settings I used. I couldn't get the 'point ' to push through a big EMG/Marshall dominated mix. Coupled with this, i use a sound that is very bass heavy ( no hifi clarity here ta!), and through my stage rig, it seemed to make the sound lose the thump it had without the pedal. I'm not accusing these pedals of bass loss, that is most definitely not the case here, but simply that they didn't work for me 'in situ' The other thing to mention at this point is that i play in differing situations, some using a full 8x10 rig, and others using DI only. Where the ebs/ way huge didn't work for me with the amp rig, they sound great going di only. As far as the hardwire goes it has a two band eq, so i really would suggest at least trying one (assuming you have a local shop/ dealer), and playing with those two knobs. I picked mine up s/h for £40 on ebay - if it sounds good for you it could be a bargain! again, HTH EDIT: i meant to say that when i say grittiness, i mean the sound of just slightly pushed valves and he edginess (Word?) that brings
16. Last nights board Chain runs x2, mxr bef, hardwire tube od, markbass bass tube marker, loop with freeze ( since I use the latch setting it means I can have the drone easily switched on and off without having to do a double tap dance-type-thing), boss geb7 to late '60s Kelly tube head and Marshall jubilee 4x10 cab
17. I spent ages on this very quest. I found that in my situation the ebs didn't really tick the box for me, I can't really define what it was ( helpful huh!), so I tried the pork loin, but I found that whilst playing on my own it sounded great, but wasn't quite the ticket when playing at volume with the rest of the band. In the end I settled with the hardwire tube od for my low gain grittyness, and I'm currently trying the markbass bass tube marker for higher gain stuff Hth
