1. Thanks. There's no PMT branch in Nottingham (Fuzz Music in Nottingham stock them, but only a very limited number). But work takes me to Brum pretty regularly, and a detour to PMT is always welcome! I'll try them when I'm over next.
2. The usual, and best, advice is try before you buy. IME Fenders vary a lot in quality (and not just the Mex ones). The nicest Precision neck I've played was on a Mexican Fender I owned years ago. But the worst Jazz I've played was a Mex Fender as well. It felt and sounded cheap. If your budget is limited I would seriously look at the Squier Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified series - they easily compete with the Mex Fenders, and have some very nice specs for the price. Edit - brensabre79 got in ahead of me. And I agree with all of his post
3. As a matter of interest, has anyone come across a Sandberg Bullet model in stock anywhere?
4.
The jazz is OK but it doesn't really cut it for me - I can't really get the tone I wanted, but that is a truly subjective statement. I have the alnico single coil at the neck and I do find it noisy particulaly when you blend in the J with the Ray so the top single coil is working alone. I guess it depends on your noise tolerance, but I like dead silent, which I don't get that way.
That's interesting - I've got the Delano split coil Jazz at the neck position (Delano's take on the DiMarzio ultra jazz, I think), and that works really well. A bit fatter than a traditional Jazz. But to be honest, I tend to use the MM pickup solo'd most of the time. Dood - I'm in France at the moment so can't post any sound clips. I'll have to leave Pete to do that!
5. Got one in my Shuker. They're very nice. The MM active tone is great. Perhaps a bit smoother sounding than my Stingray, but still a great fat aggressive tone. And as a single coil its a classic Jazz tone. Jon Shuker uses them on a lot of his basses, and I think some of the Sandbergs have them fitted (on the MM/J models).
6. Sold Alan a pedal. Quick payment, and a very easy transaction. Thanks!
7. Bump for final price drop!
8. Sold a pedal to Lozz. Good comms, quick payment. Thanks!
9.
I've just got an EBS Multicomp myself Can I ask which mode you use and the settings? I've tried the 'tube' mode on a gig but have had to go back to the drawing board as it was changing the sound more than I intended
The tube setting does change the tone noticeably. It seems to warm up/muddy up the tone depending on your take. If you're looking for a transparent compression I find the multiband setting with compression at about 12 o'clock ideal - really good for smoothing out peaks and tightening the bottom end without changing the basic tone.
10. Traded a Hipshot d-tuner with Muzz. Good comms and a very easy transaction. Thanks!
11. Ric basses have the same. I guess the benefit is that the knobs allow you to blend the pickups, but the pickup selector then allows you to toggle quickly between pickups mid song. Personally I just set everything on the Ric to full and leave well alone!
12.
Paul Young - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down!!
Pretty much all of that Paul Young album has Pino at his best. But Wherever I Lay My Hat has to get a mention as well.
13.
The seller said the bridge wa removed from a '73 but has now acknowledged that it could have been added at a later date.
My '73 has got screws. I'm pretty sure Allen bolts were 80s onwards
14.
This is a very very old ad. The bass has either been sold or the seller's decided to keep it. I dont know why people are still bumping it while saying how good these basses are and that they should buy it. bump.
+1. And at the risk of bumping it again, there have been a lot of very old for sale threads being resurrected recently. Isn't there some way that for sale threads could be automatically locked if they were dormant for, say, 6 months? It is irritating to open a thread and then find that the item probably sold months (or even years!) ago.
15. Another recommendation for the EBS Multicomp from me. Simple to use, and some subtle usable tones with the multiband and "tubism" settings.

19. Excellent transaction with Alain. Thanks!
20. Sex on Fire. I hate the song, but the audience seem to love it.
21.
You know, everyone goes on about how crap Ric bridges are but the early aluminium ones don't experience tail lift at all (I know, I've got 2). The worst bridge I've ever had by a mile was the original one on my early '70s P Bass. I play really lightly and I still couldn't get the strings to stay where they were.
Agreed. I've never had a problem with the bridge on my Ric, and as you say, its more stable than a bog standard Fender bridge.
