1. I also agree with that Trace Combo. It would be worth heading up to Dundee for that!
2. From a promotion point of view I think you have to keep 'Bass' out of the equation, otherwise it'll be seen as too specialist, so what's it in aid of? Charidee? Public Holiday? A day without rain? Bands could be responsible for bringing an audience as Funk suggests. My band for example could guarantee at least 20 paying punters to London. A bill of ten bands throughout the day gives you 200 punters and that's without band members and Basschatters. The point here is that we could more or less guarantee our audience without having to pull punters from 'outisde' which, as we all know, is difficult. If you can get bands to commit to bringing a following, in principle, you have an idea of the size of venue needed, an estimated income and the bare bones of a bill. As Kiwi states though, you need someone prepared to fund upfront at risk, unless bands on the bill accept this responsibility jointly. This, however, harks back to 'pay to play....' Steve
3.
hey, does anyone know where I can get a 'skid' or something similar, like the stuff they use at festivals? thanks
What's a skid? ps - heard your stuff on Radio 1 the other day - really cool, nice one.
4.
To be fair, most of those suggestions are just simple basslines - which doesn't make them crap per se. A crap bassline IMHO is one that actually detracts from a song. Something that Mark King has been guilty of at times.
I agree, or is badly put together and does not fit the song. I think the Waterfront bassline, whilst able to be played by virtually any farmyard animal, makes the song. The ame with some of the other suggestions here. We're mixing up 'bad basslines' with 'basslines that are not complex or that are boring to play'.....
5. Nope it's a 30" scale with same width at the nut as a Jazz. I think it was an attempt to entice guitar players to bass by offering them something that was similar.
6. Do you have a ground lift on the amp? If not or you do but this doesn't help then you could be there for ages trying to trace the problem, so if it were me I'd admit defeat and get it looked at properly.
7. Brandon - you seem not to be answering any posts. Can we take it you've now sorted yourself out?
8. He's doing himself no favours and if there are bargains to be had then it would be rude for us not to take advantage! Maybe he's grumpy because he started off having to give stuff away, but I for one am not going to tell him how to write an ebay ad. He's genuine, just rubbish at selling on ebay. but I don't want that P deluxe though..;-)
9.
This guy is on a different ebay account now, wonder why he stopped trading under snakermusic, someone on bassworld said he was a nice guy to deal with and that he actually delivered the bass personally
Yup that was me and I'll tell you why. I have his mobile and his landline. I can speak to him and he delivers in person, so I can inspect the bass and pay cash when I'm happy. I have no worries about Paypal, cheques or delivery. Do I know where the bass comes from? No, but neither do I know the origins of a lot of stuff I buy on ebay. I do know a genuine Fender though. I don't give a toss about his sales technique. It's absolutely abysmal I agree, but if that puts potential bidders off, leaving me to pick up a bargain after putting in a bit of effort to check out his background then I hope his patter gets even worse. Previously his items were on auction rather BIN, which made getting bargains a lot easier. He's never going to be my friend, I don't know him personally, I don't care if his sales fall through and I'm not defending him. I did, however, buy a brand new Precision with tags and case for under £400. Maybe I treated him like Oxfam?
10. As an example there's a couple in the For Sale section at a shade over £1k a piece....
11. £850 You could get one for less, you could pay much more. Though being honest - it's value IS how much you are prepared to pay.
12. Looks great - best colour for a jaguar. how does it sound?
13. "Just hard cash" He doesn't help any potential sellers. I'm gonna bung £600 in a brown envelope and send it to Liverpool and see what happens.
14. Have you got the original 4PRO packing? It's majorly sturdy. Maybe you could send that and despatch the rack case separately?
15. You really need to work out what the current situation is with your bass in order to work out which way to turn and by how much. Take a capo and put it on the first fret. Fret the E string at the last fret - you now have a straight line formed by the string. Now, with the string held down, how much of a gap (if any) is there between the bottom of the string and the top of the 7th and 8th frets? If you let us know we can at least give you an idea where to start. Ideally you need a feeler gauge to check this gap as it's quite small.
16. Not many amps actually have the DI on the front from memory. It's actually an inconvenient place to put it if you think about it. The only one of mine that does is ....... an Ashdown
17. Forgot to say you can get to the volume control by Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control You need to find sliders like this and enable them
18. Alan This is reasonably easy. What you need is a lead with each end terminating in a stereo 3.5mm jack. Plug one end in to the 'line out' of the Tascam and the other end in to the 'line in' of your soundcard. If you don't have a 'line in' on the soundcard, then the 'mic in' socket on your PC will work also. Keep your PC speakers attached to your PC and your PC will effectively act as the amplifier for the signal coming out of the Tascam. You may need to enable the 'mic in' or 'line in' tick box under the slider on the windows volume control. Cheers Steve
19. It's a bit tricky without knowing your starting point. How are you measuring your relief to know which way to adjust and by how much? Guess work or some more scientific method?
20.
those things we refer to as "bassii".
Nope - pretty sure you're in a minority of one there! "Basses" would be my guess as far as innovations go, I'd like to be able to recall preprogrammed preamp settings, though I'm sure someone's though of that already.
21. There are plenty of tools with jobs in my office. fetching coat as we speak...
22. Fablon - that's the stuff that I should have used, not tolex.
23. From experience of making a board with carpet and using velcor on the feet of the pedals I'd not recommend it. I used 1/4" MDF from B&Q and cut it to the same shape as a case that I had already sourced then covered in the carpet covering (like on cabs) and screwed feet to the bottom. In hindsight, I'd cover the board in tolex style stuff (you know the black plastic covering) and then stick velcro in rows across it.
24. I had one - it was quite good, bearing in mind it's a 12" speaker. Quite heavy for a low powered amp but good for practice. I'm not sure it would be loud enough to gig with in a full band situation, though.
