A common notion, but a flawed one. The single most limiting factor in volume achieved is the driver's displacement capability. The average 12 is displacement limited to about 50 watts in the low frequencies, anything more than that only leads to [horse and cart]ing out at the least, blown drivers at worst. If it's not loud enough there is no replacement for displacement.
I take your point entirely but I wasn't suggesting a single 12" cab, merely a single 4ohm cab. The number of speakers in the cabinet is up to Rumble.

It's probably come up before on some earlier incarnations of this forum but has anyone any experience of this German shop? I use Thomann quite a bit but I'm after a particular combo that no one in this country sells and neither do Thomann. The Music Store guys seem to be pretty efficient so far but I've yet to take delivery.... Steve
The very important 'need' is that bassists who can't play bass very well need to be playing through a cab like an 8x10, because regardless of what they play it LOOKS impressive.
Is that why Nicky Wire plays with 4 8x10s laid sideways....?

Get a 4 ohm cab. Less to carry and you use the full power of your amp.
-
Accurancy doesn't mean squat if all the members in the band are using different tuners!
In no way is the 8 (or 6) x 10 redundant. Oh no siree. There is a very real, and very important need for them in the world. Almost as important as Doctors, and Dentists.
Which is? The only time you see them nowadays is with touring bands who have roadies to do the work. As Warwickhunt says, most bassplayers who are responsible for carrying their own gear simply aren't interested. And I say that as someone who gigs regularly with an Ampeg 610HLF...

I had the washing machine. I reckon it was probably Ashdown's best cab. Quite tight for a 15" not too woolly, despite the absence of a horn.

Well, I shipped a bass to Greece and it cost me £40 including insurance. Should be similar to Sweden but I worked it out fairly easily fron the website.

Bass for sale... I thought I knew my eBay
Muppet replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
Definitely looks like shill bidding. "Bidder 2" seems to be bidding against himself for no apparent reason. -
You know, if you gave a bit more info about who your band is, when you are playing etc, those of us that are going could make a point of supporting you. Otherwise it's a bit pointless really!
I'm stuck. Any advice? I'm close to chucking it away, complete with the levver. And de-tooning the bloody thing myself.
I struggled at first but I found the trick was to minimise the number of turns on the tuning peg. Too many turns mean it'll never de and re-tune properly.

We use two t-bars with four PAR56 on each plugged in to a foot controller. Works fine but won't win any award for light shows.
I don't know if it applied to MIM Fenders but certainly the later model Squiers had plywood bodies. If you hold the bass body up to the light and look at the reflections off the painted surface in the waist chamfer, you will be able to see faint sets of alternating parallel indentations. Don't even waste your time refinishing that kind of body, get another from somewhere like Brandolini or off Ebay.
I would hope not for MIMs. I had an earlier Squier body (from Nash I think) that I stripped down and it was a lovely piece (well two well matched pieces) of wood underneath, that I oiled and waxed and it was lovely.
Saw one in prestine condition... £325 Good deal? Thanks, Parker
In pristine condition, yes, a reasonable deal. I shipped one to Greece a couple of years back for £400.

I bough some Sennheiser HD205s from Dixons for about £25 and they're great. I use them with my Tascam trainer and they also come with a 1/4" jack converter plug.

Interestingly the guy selling it has relisted it with a modified description (probably as a result of all the contact he's had from here) although it's still enough for a beginner to be fooled I think.

Apparently the EQ on the Performer was pretty good.

I've done a few in my time. It's not that difficult but it is time consuming. The temptation is to rush through to see the finished product, when in reality you need to spend a lot of time preparing the body, then spraying, then ALLOWING TO DRY (very important) then lacquering then ALLOWING TO DRY (very important) before cutting back. When I'm talking drying time I'm talking days and weeks rather than months, as I assume you don't have access to a commercial oven. If you are doing designs then it's a little trickier as you need to start masking off areas and ensuring one colour does not bleed in to another. tricky as I said but very possible at home. Paint from Halfords, lacquer from B&Q. Give it a go it's great fun.
I just got a Korg DTR 2000 last week and I'm very pleased with it.
The downlight is still crap! (I own one too )

Probably because in most cases an 8x10 is over the top and there are so many quality lightweight portable cabs around which makes them sort of redundant.
-
Unfortunately this is all too common. The main band (often a tin pot group who you'll never hear of again) get to call the shots, albeit indirectly through the promoter and the local bands providing the support do as they're told and fit in. It'll be presented as a case of "Well do you want to play or not - take it or leave it?" when in reality local band are needed for support as they bring the crowds in, otherwise the touring bands will be playing to nobody. It's hard and not all venues are the same but I think your son just might have to get used to this happening more often as his bands starts to get established. That's no excuse for people not being polite though.
I might just wait for that badly described valve combo on Ebay I've been looking for - for a nice little home setup.
Fight you for it.
