1.
I'll let others comment about the J, but the P is all about that fundamental sound. Nothing else quite delivers the bottom end in the same way and - for most people, and whether or not they realise it - the sound of a P is the sound they grew up hearing.
Not me, Jimmy Lea lived and breathed Gibson, or custom Gibsons copies. The only other guy I watched & listened to a lot is Lemmy, a Rick man - who said Fenders have necks like tree-trunks. Though having said that I do wish I'd seen Duck Dunn - and I was stunned to watch Gordon Rowley of Strife a few times who had the most battered P I ever saw in my life.
 2.
The SG Range were just jumping on the bandwagon and had quite a few weaknesses. Look up Tutti Fruiti on You Tube by Little Richard and his band and at the right moment you'll see an early Gibson Violin Bass similar to Maccas Hofner bass.
As I understand it it's the Hofner that looks like the Gibson, by about 2 years.
 3.
it's on it's way from Californ i a.
Sure it's not coming via Turin?
 4.
One I have looks different to that, looking on the back, it's actually a MK2 Super-bass 100w (all valve), may see if I can get it working (needs at least new output tubes and a fuse, maybe more).
Nice - the valve one, mine was one of Marshall's first ventures into tranny power - they weren't popular for long.
 5.
70s Marshall Lead+Bass 100w head
???? I loved mine for years! Bassist in my son's band has it now as his back-up amp.
 6.
Am I right in believing that the all-important thing is never to have the bass lean diagonally in a way that rests its weight on the neck?
That was what I was told by the guy who built my custom - and he had a lot of experience; and tended to get a bit manic in his beliefs. I would imagine he was talking about long term, rather than a few minutes/hours or so. IIRC he said if you knew you wouldn't be playing a guitar for more than a week it should be vertically in it's case (preferably with a neck support around the 5th fret area) and with the strings slacked off a couple of turns. Yes, he was that vague about it.
 7.
Please tell me there was a typo in that sentence, because I'm getting wierd images of the night you and the physio had an exciting and memorable time together
Damn, damn, yes it was a typo - though it did bring back many memories of his assistant "Emma", who was "endowed" in a wonderfully feminine way.
 8.
I think they're like squier
Weren't they named by a cab driver? I had that Leo bloke in the back once; said he built guitars but oi reckon he was lion. D'ja see them Lympics then Guv? Gor blimey.
 9. There's physios and physios. I would only recommend going to one who was a sports physio and who was recommended in turn. IME a rugby physio has seen just about every injury going - and many of the big rugby teams - and football for that matter - now have open clinics for the public to attend. Eg. due to an old sporting physio I once had a tilted pelvis making one leg about a half-inch shorter than the other - causing lower back pain. A bog standard physio wanted to put a foam wedge in my shoe while charging £30 for her advice. A few pops, grunts & clicks off a rugby physio fixed the pelvis. As he said "you treat the cause, not the symptoms". Though I'm always open to new suggestions so as or when I next need one I may well investigate the Alexander Tech.
 10.
After a gig, just put down on the floor in the case. Next day, taken out from the case, put in the rack.
^this. Lying down it can't fall any further by being knocked from standing by a loose drummer. For storage, always standing up; in or out of a case/bag.
 11.
slightly fringe under appreciated guitars I've kind of gotten used to twin humbuckers it needs a really nice round clean tone with lots of sustain.
?
 12. I thought it was just the Kaiser Chiefs, no? Or was there a bit of miming going on?

 15.
Manchester allows amplifiers, but limits the Db.
Wouldn't think so when you hear that old bloke who plays Market St area. He's good mind, I do wait & listen a while though I do wonder with all that he has on the backing tape how much is him.
 16. So far there's been 3 very short topics on the same theme in the past few days. I guess folk are waiting to hear (if they're waiting at all) what's so wrong with the stock speakers with it (I thought Mesa were one of the clique brands?) & what the OP is trying to achieve by it. There are a lot of knowledgeable folk on here, some may know the answer(s) but wouldn't want to guess. Yes, I've used/use Eminence, but as 15's so it's irrelevant.
 17.
I guess that would have made Paul Klipsch public enemy #1?
He would have been way out of their league. For a magazine that used to say only separates were true hi-fi & it was all they were interested in it's amazing when sales fall how suddenly "hi-fi" various docking stations & mobile phones can become.
 18.
phenomena such as placing cabinets in a corner etc.
That used to be a hanging offence in "What Hi-fi" magazine.

 20.
I see you becoming the Head of Mods
?????
 21.
I think they could have benefited from a more serious stab at the clip.
I tried, really I did; but gave up after checking out the Steven Seagal hair visuals & spent too long wondering if he had in-ear monitors or piercings.
 22.
They were notorious in their day. Would turn up to gigs on the pretence of 'We're here to clear up after the punters have gone' and the next thing you know they'd be away with your best instrument in one paw and half your back line on a trolley legging it back to the common. Thieving hairy bastads.
Their alibi read that they believed in good faith that the gear was left behind and that they were making good use of it on that basis.
 23.
Better street cred from the basschatters
That'll be the day!
 24.
Wait! Just realised... is this really an ahem... "excuse" for buying another bass? If so... go for it, you don't want to scratch your baby!
^ THIS! Every year the insurance premium on my custom bass - and therefore the replacement value went up, to the point where they wouldn't insure it outside the house......... and I was sh*t-scared of putting the least ding in it. I was going to loan it for a gig to a pro player, until a roadie says to him "Do you know what it's worth?" - and he very carefully put it back in it's case. Next step? long-scale Epi EB3.
