1. Decent Westone 2 IEMs or Audio Technica 'phones with the source through a decent headphone amplifier.
2. I've read through this thread and as a former 4003 owner it saddens me that RIC behave this way. i don't really understand what their motives are in all of this. It is interesting to contrast the behaviours of Fender and RIC; both makers of instruments that (let's be charitable here) rely on a tried and trusted formula and yet with diametriacally opposing positions on their perceived IP. I'm neither a lover or hater of Rics. I saved and saved for ages to be able to buy my dream bass (4003 Jetglo - a real one btw), only to find that it was the most uncomfortable thing to play with a really poor bridge. I sold it after about 12 months and was really saddened that my icon was frankly quite poor imho obviously. Still love the look of them though.
3.
Fixed it for you my dear boy. ...Why not copyright maple wooded basses? That's only ever been used by them....
I think Spector may be in the brown and sticky stuff then.
4. I like the idea in principle of owning and using one bass, however in practice I like the idea of options e.g. active / passive, round / flats, pickup combinations etc. Also musical instruments have their own separate appeal aesthetically. Therefore in some future time I might manage to get down to one fretless and one fretted bass, but there could very easily be one more just in case...
5. Thought I had better contribute. My first Spector was this Legend 4 c.2006 which I sold a year or so back and now looks to be in the hands of Mr Lenny B of this very forum. My current Spector squeeze is this lovely neck through SSD NS-94 from the Stuart Spector Design era MIK mid/late 90s.
6. When the Manc SC outlet folded they had a US Spector going for very reasonable money indeed.
7. As above, EMGs p/ups acquired, perfect transaction, plenty of PMs, very helpful, deal with confidence. Thanks Derek.
8. Good point, well made. I have managed to sneak into the Republic of South Yorkshire a few times without a work permit
9.
cant bloody afford it !!
+1 Saw the S&L tour though. But I think the CA album is phenomenal.
10. Just acquired a Hercules stand from Martyn. As ever simple and completely trustworthy. Good luck with your 10k
11. Indeed very nice looking basses, looking forward to seeing #3 completed, I think the wood combinations will look stunning. I must dig out my permit to travel into Yorkshire (from God's own county of Lancashire).
12. Clearly far too talented, welcome.
13. Excellent, nice basses those Tanglewaters.
14. There's a US one with a similar configuration on here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/208023-spector-ns-4h2-ex/page__fromsearch__1 ..... .....but down in the smoke so probably not a lot of use to you.
15. Just acquired a Tone Pump from David. Really helpful guy, good comms, etc., what's not to like. As has been said many times above, deal with confidence. Cheers Alain
16. The actual 'shop' is a little out of town I think Alan just uses the address you will have seen for some storage. Well worth a visit Alan is really helpful. Whatever you go for see if you can find one to try first. The stealth black one looks well worth a noodle and he has the holly and purpleheart bass 'in stock' too. You also need to bear in mind that I'm an ACG convert so my opinions may not not be totally unbiased .
17.
Thanks for the link to ACG EAD - I heard mention of a luthier in the Borders so this must be the man. I love the look of the J-style fretlesses, but much prefer the natural wood bodies - but I'm guessing they're all beauts to play. If I decide to go for a quality instrument I'd rather go for an ACG than the models I mentioned above. This isn't doing my GAS any good at all though.
I saw you were in Glasgow so not too far to travel down to Moffat. You can have pretty much anything you like. The Graft range standard spec is minimum lacquer finish so lots of lovely wood naturalness to be had there. Here's mine (#120 in the ACG website gallery).
18. This looks like a really good bass and the switchable p/up option will give you some serious bottom end (I've tried this set up on an ACG fretted bass): http://basschat.co.u...ge/page__st__60 see post #72. I have one of Alan's fretless 4s and it is an outstanding bass and excellent value too. I've been through a number of budget fretless basses and a MIJ Jazz fretless and with the benefit of hindsight, and in the knowledge that I would always have a fretless bass around, I should have gone for something further up the food chain straight off.
19. I spend most of the time playing around the neck p/up and I can't discern any great difference either.
20. I have two bass related Ts, the Tesco one and one that says something along the lines of 'stay away from the bass an nobody gets hurt'. Oh, and an ACG one that came with my bass . As the lovely Mrs ead would tell you my wardrobe is shockingly boring as I see clothing as purely functional and have no interest in buying branded stuff. I have no idea why she puts up with me at all come to think of it
21. I was down in the stalls and I got all the internal organ vibrations etc. so maybe it's like most venues in that where you are in the auditorium is quite important. Where I was I thought the sound was excellent. I was at the Transatlantic gig a couple of years ago at the Academy 1 (Manchester) and when Pete Trewavas hit the bass pedals I thought my spleen was going to explode. Amusing for a minute or two but it completely compromised the rest of the sound from the band.
22. +1 I now leave my wallet at home when visiting. Altogether too tempting...
