I think you'll want the lightest gauge available in the labellas ( think they do heavy medium and light in the Deep Talkin flats). I will confess an ulterior motive here in that I would like the opinion of a TI user that tries the light guage labellas before I waste my own dosh - so let us know how you get on!
I'm normally a TI user for my fretless bass but am just about to pull the trigger on a set of La Bella 760FX strings for a newly acquired fretless bass. You may of course have already acted, but if not I'll report back in a few weeks.
An electronics engineer (an authorised service engineer for the likes of Yamaha and Ampeg) explained to me the difference between digital, solid state and valve...and it made complete sense why people say class D is good but just lacks something. Suffice to say I won't be buying one in a hurry. He also explained why they can be unreliable. Just to add, I'm probably one of the weediest, skinniest blokes on earth and I've also got a bad back due to work. However, I don't have any problems moving my Ampeg cab around, it weighs over 35kg. COME ON YOU LOT, MAN UP!!!!!
A switched mode power supply is probably more reliable than something with valves in, more so when they are being lumped around. However there are books on Class A, A/B, D etc so probably not worth getting all hot and bothered about it on here (electronic degree here so some knowledge of the internal gubbins). Each to their own.

Great Designers. e.g. Leo Fender - he didn't even play them!
Haha no that's him just trying to sneak into my seat after I put my bass down to go have a wazz. He thinks he's the number 2 in the household and therefore entitled to the bosses seat when I'm not there.
I think you'll find he actually is No.1 in the household. -
L-1000 = 1k = wunkay
Doh
Haha. Yeah he's more of a floating claw dude
That looks more like a musically related pin-down technique. Where that number I had for the RSPCA... -

Sorry boys, pardon my ignorance but what is a Wunkay please? -
Me too. Lightweight amp and cabs are so much easier (and sound just as good nowadays).

There are plenty of examples throughout industry of talented people spotting a good opportunity that had either been overlooked or ignored by others and just persevering with it. Clearly LF hit the jackpot with an industry that was pretty much starting out and a revolutionary approach to the problem as well as listening to his potential customers. I think it helped enormously that he was able to do the amps as well as the basses, and he clearly had an eye for marketing strategy too. For me what is more interesting is that there are far fewer examples of innovators that didn't then evolve the design within the business. I wonder what Fender could have become if the Musicman and G&L basses had all been designed and developed within Fender world? -
Does he have a Scots accent?

If you had to make do with one bass - which would it be?
Slightly off topic, but the in ear buds for Ipods and the like cause damage too. Better off with a pair of proper headphones.
I think it's more about the volume than the whether it's ear buds or headphones, both can cause damage, the bundled Apple items are pants though. They were the first thing I replaced with some quality Westone items that form a good acoustic seal so that I can hear everything without cranking the volume and as a result battery life on the iPod is much improved. Also worth considering a simple headphone amp that will take the digital signal from the iPod (from the long flat plug) and put it through a decent DAC rather than the horrible cheap circuit Apple use to power the headphone socket.

I've got some of those moulded plugs with the interchangeable filters. Without doubt the best band related purchase I've made, both for going to gigs and playing gigs.

Tried to get tickets for this when it was announced and failed miserably
As Toyah once said "It's a mystery ?"
I thought what she actually said was "It's a mystewy" I like single cut basses for the most part. But then I also like trains and walking up hills.
I think it's maybe less about the overall length of the note and more about the amount of volume in the first few seconds of the note. In other words how the note decays after the initial attack.
OK that makes some sense to me. The string mass must be relevant too I think. I was experimenting with by brass nutted Spector and the E & A ring better that the D & G (when fretted carefully and plucked carefully in a scientifically reproduceable manner ). All that extra inertia flapping around I presume.

More startling and innovative design from Fender OK, OK, I'll get my coat...
-
Anything with those lipstick p/ups.

Does extra sustain matter? I seem to spend a fair amount of time muting notes when moving across strings as well as trying to stop other strings vibrating in sympathy when I'm playing (poor technique obviously) but it's rare you ever hear a note being allowed to ring out so why is sustain so highly valued?
