2. the BBC as of 7pm tonight still has nothing new. http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-20486184
3. After I have recorded to my computer (via my Zoom B2.1u) the playback (via a decent set of speakers including a sub) seems to sound even better than it does coming straight from my cab.
4. I find Scot's Lessons usually interesting and helpful. But, and its a big but (oo'err) This 'classic' just sounds like a jumble of notes played in quick succession. Notes that bear no relation to each other. In other words just free-form tosh Believe me i have listened to it 6 or 7 times now, its not exactly a toe tapper is it ? In fact I couldn't play a bar from it if my life depended on it.
5. my bass sounded very weedy on my computer speakers till I got a decent set of speakers with a bass boost box(Creative i - Trigue). Now it all sounds brilliant. Cant believe i put up with anything less now. (i plug in via my Zoom B2.1u via its USB interface. and record with Audacity.)
6. I have one exactly the same model, but it does not lose any volume when tone control is moved in any direction.
7.
But local guitar shop guy will do one for £15 including strings that is fiddle with the adjustables and clean the board.
£15 including strings!!! What strings does he put on. A set he found in the bin ? ?
8.
what was the body made from? Ply or some kind of solid wood?
MDF isn't it ?
9. y
Yeah, he looks like he could nod off playing that, I wonder how long it took to get that good on that track.
He even has the brass to add a few dead notes on top.
10.
What's this story about fake gear? Got a link?
take your pick: google page
11. Now we know the real bass show is not on this year I spose I'll have to put up with the inferior southern version. Dunno what to do about getting there though ? Try a car share, try to book a cheap coach/train in advance (not much chance of that at the weekend) or walk and set off the week before. Course if i went down in the car i could always doss in it if the worst came to the worst. Not much point in going 200 bloody miles just for one day. Might as well do both. (Well that's my excuse anyway)
Get your tickets from Mark at Bass Direct and pay no handling fee...
Sounds great! 'Handling fees' are such a rip. (how much is the handling fee anyway ?) Do you have a link for the bass direct page to buy a ticket, cant see it online ?
12. yep me too. I thought i was the only one. No new paragraphs can be started, looks like Im a mad speed fiend if i make a long post, with no paragraphing I made a post about it several months back nobody else seemed to know what i was on about. As Rab C Nesbit said. when spying a kindred spirit "Hands across the sea! Hands across the sea"
13. What cab have you got it with ? what lead are you connecting amp to cab with? ie: is it a guitar lead or a speaker lead, or just a short patch lead ? and have you tested it. Do you have a multimeter to do simple continuity tests ? Was it bought new, or second hand, from a mate , or a shop or the interweb ? (just looking at the return options or the options to ring someone and ask them questions about it) Do you not have a techie mate or band member (I know where not all in bands. I'm not myself) who can come round and give free advice for cups of tea ? (or beer)
14. Sorry but i have never seen a single minute of X factor, so im not starting now. Kudos on getting the gig though. I hope they compensate you well. You certainly deserve it
15. Am listening to 'Tuken' right now Oscar. Some darn fine playing there. Never heard of Billy Cobham though, so the name has gone over my head
16.
I usully get it a bit around this time of year for some reason. So far this year a daily double dose of Fish Oil capsules ( not Cod liver Oil) and one of the wifes legwarmers, doubled over as a support and to keep it warm seems to be helping, it aint been too bad up to now.
Sounds like a bit of arthritis if it is one of those 'now its getting colder' twinges ?? Anyway can i ask whats the diff between fish oil and cod liver oil capsules ? Good idea about the doubled leg warmer by the way. (are you sure it was "The wife's ? ) Mine is caused by the changing of my computer chair! With the chair i have now i have to stretch my arm out at an angle to reach the mouse. Manys the time i fell asleep at the controls and woke up arm outstretched. So now I invest in a wireless mouse and keyboard.
17. Hell yeah i remember seeing that. I was amazed to hear that he had enough recorded music to release 2 new cd a year for the next 40 years!!
18. This is sad tidings for the Northern bass community. I only hope that we haven't seen the last of it. If Stevie needs volunteers to help with next years event, if there is one. I would be happy to help out, and Im sure many others would too. Unfortunately there is not much I could do except on a practical basis. Except maybe things like moving gear from a to b, help with transport, volunteers to help man desks etc.etc. All the really important stuff comes from Stevies contacts and long years on the bass and live music scene. Not sure I could be much help there, and not the sort of thing any old joe could step in and take over, even if they wanted to. It must be a mammoth task to put together. Maybe we never let him and the others know how much we appreciated the bass event and what it meant to us. Lets hope it rises anew next year.
19. tumbleweeds bounce slowly, down the deserted oxford road ..............
20. Didn't little jimmy Osmond do a version of this ?
21. [sup]Here are my first ever public efforts. I have plenty of my own stuff, but I thought I'd play someone else's, that way I cant pretend any bad technique was on purpose First one is the bass line to Start by the Jam: http://soundcloud.com/daz_g/start-full Second one is carrereing by Jah Wobble (Public Image Ltd): http://soundcloud.com/daz_g/carrering-2[/sup]

New Zoom B3
I don't think they will work with the B2.1u, but I could be wrong. Patches are grouped effects. So, for example, you might have a chorus, overdrive, then SVT amp all in a row on your B3 (combining to produce a sound). That collection of effects is called a patch. Your next patch might combine tremelo, flanger and a spring reverb. etc. Greg
So they are switch or button settings ? ie: Switch set to Low Pass then Knob-1 on #3, knob-2 on #5, Knob-3 on #6. etc ?
23. The big Q is this. Is it worth a one off fiver ?
24.
I used to use one (probs still should) on one of my basses because the strings were higher above the body than normal and I felt like I was levitating over a huge void...Every time I'd pop it was like "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" and my fingers got booted down the endless pit. :-(
took me a few seconds to get the "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" reference
25.
There is no excuse for owning a headless bass
zing!! +1 ugly bloody things
