1.
As a fairly novice reader I have just been using my new found skill to read Chaka Khan Aint Nobody for our function band and as its in F# major the E is sharp, ten years ago I would of doubted its existence even though I had probably been playing them, This was the first time I have ever conciously played E# Doddy will be proud next time I see him
E sharp! PAH! You'l be teling us you saw Elvis working in a fish n chip shop next then ? .
2.
Alright Dave, a Southsea lad here, you got to post when and where you gig. I have to see how all of those pedals can be used in one set!
OoH Southsea eh. I went their once when i was 10 or so. I remember at night, with my dads trusty binnoculars, we would be watching the ladies of the evening on the sea front, touting the Scapes for customers. Ahh happy days. I went back once maybe 10 years later to see some or other punky type band. I do recall lots of bars and clubs with live music. Still the same, or changed much ?
3. Hey maybe musicains should make money the old fashioned way. ie: playing live for a flat fee, a percentage, or selling tickets. Back when Rock n Roll was just a twinkle in his [s]japs[/s] dads eye, the only way for bands to make dosh was to tour. which they did constantly. All you needed was a manager (with a trusty cricket bat. Just in case) to make sure the band were paid in full. surely not such a bad life ?
4. In my extremely well informed, etc: Most of them just didnt get it. Far be it for me. A lifelong Beatles hater, to throw my hat in to the ring, with any enthusiasm............ ... But surely the point of looking back on that album from todays point of view is the simplicity it was recorded with. The 2 tracks or whatever it was. With vocals on one track, lead, rythym, bass and drums on the other. All recorded in a day in under 10 hours, was pretty much their live act on record. ? But.. Some of them had half the London Philharmonic with them with a few dozen (Ahem) backing singers (family members, frieinds owed favours etc) for good measure. Totally missed the point. Ruined a load of already twee songs by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them. DUH! I nearly fell off my chair laughing when Beverly Knight, (Whoever she is ?? Had to Google that one) turned to the camera, near the end of her effort and gave a big thumbs up. She honestly thought that she had nailed it or something. Good grief woman, you were so far out of whack maybe you came out the other side of the looking glass or something, turning white into black and back to white again. Like some sort of vocal, Sabbatier effect. (look it up,) MAN ALIVE.Her effort was bad, but funny, which nearly made up for wasting an hour of my precious Life Force. PS: even the "rarely give a bad performance". Difford and Tillbrook, were only average. But then you cant make a silk purse out of a cows arse (or something) Glad to see that Glen has lost the goat beard. Now if only he'd give back that bloody ukulele to Tiny Tim.! (you know what to do) PPS: Steve, only just seen your post above (rarely do I read long threads before posting, in case anyone has been funnier or more incisive than me) Glad to see we think along a similar vein.
5.
Have you seen the PM I sent you Daz?
yes just answered with sincere appologies and explaination for lateness. (No password in my laptop for this forum, although I was sure i knew what it was [On my home PC I normally have it set to auto log in] The really annoying thing is, when i got back and checked the password i had tried entering, it was exactly the bloody same!! Why does that happen ? Its far from the first time its happened to me and on several forums ?)
6.
Rules state that you must put a price up. They were being sold new as low as £220 about a year ago then the price shot up suddenly. I know this because I bought one
Ah yes I forgot. don't really know what to say. They were £700 when they came out, they went up and down. They were priced in the £200s for a short while at Dawsons, but they couldn't actually get hold of any if i remember correctly. I seriously doubt many were sold at that price. Then they decided to stop making them and the last batch went for about £700. So then that was it, they stopped making them for some unfathomable reason. The same thing happened to another Farida bass I own, but I would need to be starving to sell that. Namely the FPB18 which was a P bass made to a higher standard than the normal FJB6 (The FJB6 is the only one they make now and retails for £300) So I'd say £300 or thereabouts is what I want for it.
7. Greetings and welcome to bass chat.
8. Warwick and Trace Elliots eh ? Sounds nice Welcome.
9. I am just putting this up to get a feel of what the market is for this bass. It will probably have to go unless I get a job in the next month. But unless i get a decent price I;d rather keep hold of it and go without. Lovely bass. I also have its twin brother in P bass format,(FPB-18) which I am definately holding on too. So I wont feel too bereft. It has a swamp ash body and a maple neck, maple fingerboard and has Alnico V J Pickups. Two volume and one tone. Bolt On neck with an 864mm scale length. Also comes with strap-locks, but I will be keeping the Levy strap for sentimental value. I would put this head to head with any Fender Jazz bass and not worry about the outcome. Many far more experienced bass players say the Farida is better. In all honesty I dont have the experience to give detailed comparisons. All I know is how it sounds, and it sounds just as good as any Fender jazz that I have heard. Price ?? Well they dont make them any more. But at one time Dawsons were retailing them at over £700 So Im asking for £300 or a very near offer. Numerically, 2 may be near to 3, but that don't mean 200 is near to 300 I have already turned down two offers of £200. Not that I have any objections to lowballing. You get nothing unless you ask is my motto. But really i will not be selling it for that price. I already nearly sold it last year when i needed a new car, but thats just when Dawsons put their price down for a short while. So i thought if i could not get a decent price for it, then it would almost be an insult to the bass itself to sell it that low. Just because it says Farida and not Fender on the headstock. PS: If anyone wants to have a try of it before buying, then it'll have to be at your place though, as my rig is at my elderly parents house, and the cab is seriously heavyweight just to move for a 10 minute test jam. I only go there to plug it in when they are out .. Sometimes its so loud i don't hear them coming back and my dad comes in saying "I could hear that racket vibrating three streets away" Its almost like being a teenager again. and being told to "turn that bloody racket down. I can't hear the telly"
10. I dont think i have ever heard of such a thing as a bad Yamaha bass.
11.
May I suggest you try to enjoy the whole song and appreciate the part you play in it, rather than doing what too many people do and only focus on yourself? The clue is that you hadn't even realised how simple the bass line is, THAT my friend is REAL music. You've been tricked by movement and harmony. I very much doubt that you are playing the part well enough to get your mojo on, so concentrate on nuanced playing and how you fit in the song. Just because you don't have 16th note triplet arpeggios to play does not mean the bass line is simple or unmusical. So many of us are trying to learn stuff that means nothing on the bass unless it's in a virtuoso context. There is far too much emphasis on chops and f*** all on MUSIC. If you can truly learn to love simplicity, you will be a much better and more useful musician for it.
Well said. That man.

Is it any good for the racing games ? I have been given a ps3. But only like the Golf games really. I was just wondering about all the race games i see in the second hand sections. Or is the normal controler just as good ?
13. RE: Ear Buds: After seeing some horror pictures from hospitals and A & E of what terrible ear bud headphones have caused to peoples ears, when they come off inside the ear. I'd never wear any EVER again. Seriously.
14.
The headphones I rely on from day to day are Sennheisers , but by trial and error I managed to find a design from their range that is fairly bulletproof and they have , thankfully , lasted years with no problems at all
can i ask which Sennheiser model this is ? I have terrible trouble with headphones and go through them like batteries.
15. Is he actually alright ? I mean I am quite sure he has pals with the interweb, who would gladly let him use it at the drop of a hat. Or an internet café or a wifi point nearby. Being as he's supposedly such a nice chap, and conscientious worker . It does not seem like him to fall behind with orders and not keep in touch with customers. Maybe there is some darker reason that he has fallen behind with orders and kept away from the forum. Neither of which are like his usual self (from what I can tell from this forum anyway. I am not claiming to know the guy) So many people seem to have more than a good word for him. This is obviously from a long earned reputation for doing good work and just being a decent bloke. If he wants to keep it private fair enough. However, I'm starting to get a bit concerned myself and I don't even know the guy. So I am sure there must be people on here who know him in real life, who must be worried.
16. if its still going. Id love it to replace my ageing Phillips which has its carriage mechanism on the blink.ps: bananas
17. The cool thing about Yamaha basses is that they never seem to make a bad one. Hi and good luck.
18. I saw Gang of four at Erics in Liverpool, approximately 28 years ago.(The Au Pairs were in support) Fantastical gig. They are a good band to be influenced by. In my umble opinion. Another great band from that era were Theatre of Hate. Most excellent bass playing from Stan Stammers. Hope you don't mind me putting some of their music here. 19. You have a great blog there Eric. It does make for an interesting read. Kudos. and all that for keeping it going.
20.
Maybe it'll end up on YouTube for the Skyless amongst us
Me no sky teevee either ? hint ps: well done Lozz
21.
Instead of trying to describe the sound, I humbly post this... I'm a bit too hungover for it today, but what the hell... I have to say that after recording this bass line (one take) there was felt fluff all over the shop and the plastic 'filling' of the felt pick sandwich was exposed already. Nice sound, but I can get it by various other means anyway... so there it is. But hey, we needed to know, didn't we? Many thanks and big props to Gareth for sorting all this out, I know what a PITA it can be. This is my Custom P (SD SPB-1), Tech-21 VT Bass (SVT), DC-9 Comp, Joe Osborn Signature Flats and the Pickboy: https://soundcloud.c...herry-blind-man .
Is that drop C tuning ?
22. Oh wow I cant believe I missed this thread. Being a pick user, I'd have definitely been up for a few. Maybe next time, let me know. Cheers.
23.
. Don's also in the process of publishing his auto-biography; which unlike "others" is - supposedly - the full story.
That sounds interesting. Hope we don't wait too long.
