Scott, your book sounds interesting. I dont buy bass books these days, after my intial splurge i bought enough to last a lifetime. But i think i will make an exception for yours. Any idea of the publication date yet ? ps: I saw you at Manchester bass day. An interesting and entertaining time. wish it could have been longer.

This will be of no news to some on here, but even myself who thought i knew Slade songs quite well didnt realise how complex some of Jim Lea's bass lines were. Though i should have realized it before, as Jim is a highly talented musician, who plays guitar, piano, and violin as well as bass. I was listening to that guy on Youtube playing the bass line to Merry Xmas, in that thread that mentioned it the other day. This set me off wondering about other Slade basslines from my favourites, so I went and looked up Cos I luv you. I must say i thought it most excellant and have been playing it all day. I then went on to look at bass lines in other songs he wrote. There are some real toe tappers, even with the bass line played on its own. The guy has a real talent. If you have never heard it before, the Coz I luv you single (which got to #1 natch!) is mucho worth a listen to. I cant belive i never sat down and picked it out before. Give it a try yourself, or maybe select your own favourite Slade "Choon" and plonk away pretending your in Slade on Top of the Pops circa 1971 (like i do) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFUMkkGGzc0&feature=related
Just watched it on iPlayer - no problems. Good 30 minutes of great nostalgia - Keef in particular!
BBCi player online must not work till the next day or something ? I have access to iplayer via BTVision and i have notic ed that usually about 10 or 20 minutes have to go by before a programme becomes avaiable. Maybe it was just a goof. Worth watching.
Dave the scale is 35" on the Super J / Super P. Not a lot of difference between that and an ABZ / ABII considering the Super series has 22 frets and not 24. The other difference on the 5 strings model is the spacing at the bridge where the Super J / P are have 19mm spacing vs the ABZ / ABII which have 18mm spacing. It all works out pretty comfortable and when you swap one for the other, you don't really notice a lot of difference but I must admit the 19mm spacing makes playing at the bridge a lot neater and cleaner with the strings a little bit further apart there is no risk of plucking the next string by mistake.
Sounds about right. I have problems up near the dusty end, thats probably why its so dusty. Hopefully i'll be able to try one in the Spring.

Now that its established that it was just a mistake that the pic dissapeared from the Dingwall forum and that Sheldon Dingwall himself has put the pic back. I belive its ok to put the bass back on show here.
Or 'Jazz Odyssey'...or the Jack The Ripper musical 'Saucy Jack'...
After three: "Saucy Jack, you’re a naughty one/Saucy Jack, you’re a haughty one."

Id love a 4 string version. I have a dozen un checked lottery tickets in my room. you never know If i win i will buy one for the Forum to be raffled. (after i buy a few for myself of course) Hey maybe if were lucky there will be one on show at London bass show in March ? Dingwall say:
No price yet, we're working on it. The East pre-amp is really trick. It features two stacked concentric controls with multiple functions. Stack one: Master volume (pull for active), Passive tone (ring) Stack two: Mid boost (center detent to 10), Bass/Treble boost (center detent to 1), pull for bass boost (frequency selectable internally), variable mid frequency (ring) As P's have even less room in the control cavity than J's the battery is a custom Lipo with an included charger. There's a relay that automatically defaults to passive mode if the battery starts running low. We're fans of toggles too but it's not likely that we'll use them on this particular model.
Well it looked great the short while it was on show . I found a few pics of the mock up online at talkbass that were seemingly exactly the same. Also the Dingwall forum has it on the forum posted by sheldon dingwall. Sheldon says:
"the photo must have been corrupted ill post again"
Seems it was all a mistake. the pic is back on the Dingwall forum. That looks absolutely beautiful to me. (except for that extra string! ) I have always wanted to try a Dingwall and a Fanned fret. Maybe i will get a chance if i can get a cheap train ticket to London in March to go to the bass show. (no chance of trying one at Manchester after waiting since last year to get a chance. There were none) Good to see Swifty with a proper bass (except for that fifth string) Last time i saw him he had some Fodera singlecut 6 stringed plank of horror

Hopefully it'l be on i player so we can all get a look see

Speed King was one of the songs where i really heard the bass. I was 13 when i first heard it, so I knew what it was by then, and I knew I liked it too. Apparently they dont do it live much and never did.

is there some sort of maintainace at 2 - 3 AM ? I sometimes log on then and it goes very slow and sometimes times out.

Commenting on for sale section prices?
daz replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
this happened to me when i went to sell my beloved top of the range Farida for which the new list price had just been more than halved! Due to Farida deciding to concentrate on their high end acoustics. I didnt know this and someone PM'd me and politely let me know. So i soon realized if i couldnt get a reasonable price then i didnt want to sell it, and i raised the money for car repairs by doing a few car boot sales with my accumulated excess junk. I actually have that same bass round my neck right now* Frankly i am glad it happened *(yes i do sit at the keyboard and pick at my bass. Dosent everyone ? ..... What do you mean, NO? ) -
I dunno, id see if i could at least try a Hartke LH500 before id buy a new cab. When i first got mine, I plugged it in to my old cab and the resulting sound was so loud and unexpected that I fell of my stool (I sit in front of the cab) after doing my usual opening strum.!

Didnt he have a junkie brother called Vincent, who was shot in the bathroom ?
It happens, I'm reasonably new here* but I've served almost 9 years on Talkbass * EDIT - Just looked and I've been here 4 years. Longer than I thought.
You did a 9 on Talkbass ?!! A nine!!! How did you stand the Cliques and all the my Sadowski is better than your custom shop Fender, and the, Nothing cheap is any good. Snobbery and guff ??

Yes many people are having difficulty selling basses. more difficulty than they had before, if they are regular swappers, is just down to the fact that people have less spending money these days. Im sure if this were better economic times basses would be selling like cakes. Hot ones. When people hold on to their basses longer they have less questions to ask about them. Less queries refering to modifications, or repairs and therfore less to talk over in the bass guitar sections This is surely partly the reason that Off Topic is patronized more. There are simply not as many new interesting topics in the bass section. I find myself posting all sorts of junk off topic when im bored. (im unemployed) So right now at 03.35AM the attic has been raided for a thousand or so books and I am going through them, finding whats worth keeping, whats worth money on Amazon and I am putting them up for sale there.
I dropped my MacBook last week and it stopped working, so it's in the Apple Store being repaired. I've had about a week without being able to see Basschat at weekend or evenings. You know what I did instead? I dug out a Bass Builders book that I bought and barely looked at, Fingerboard Harmony by Gary Willis. I have been studying for about an hour a day, and I have made great progress, I can see basic major, minor and augmented arpeggios all over the fingerboard in any key already and have started making connections and recognising patterns after a few hours. It's given me a lot of pleasure and I feel very encouraged.
Good post, and a lesson I intend to emulate. Since becoming unemployed i have sat here in the BC Forum for hours at a time reading nonsense and posting worse. I have also started to pick up my bass and noodling and playing favourite riffs for a few hours instead of trying to learn and improve. Time to get the books back out i think.

I have an announcement to make. I have been reliably informed that if i book a month ahead, that I can get a train ticket to London for under £20 If this is correct then Daz will be going to the London bass show. If i become famous between now and then, I will not be signing autographs, but may pose for photographs (for a consideration) Anyone wanting to accompany me on the journey let me know. If, as expected their is an over subscription, I will draw just ten names out of my top hat . Seriously though I didnt know you could get train tickets for that cheap. A normal day return to London/Chester is maybe £250 so its a huge difference. I know you can get coach tickets a lot cheaper, but i loathe coach travel. ( Its mainly for peasants, students who dont have Mumsy and Daddy to buy them a car and a weekly petrol allowance, and chavettes who are too thin. I'd rather Walk.) I love the train but cant afford it these days. Sitting back for a long journey with a book and a few cans is luxury for me. The journey along the south devon coast was a favourite. If you timed it right at high tide and a storm blowing in, the train would get properly bufetted by the sea as it flew along the top of the sea wall at Dawlish. You also used to get ticket collectors who would let you go into first class, and annoy the snobs just by exsisting in their air space. But they are all jobsworths these days. At that rate I might just go to the London Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at The National Gallery as well (ooh when i read this back I had a weird deja vu, and then a deja vu of me realising it was a deja vu. That must be significant. I am now determined to go to the show, even if the train ticket is as much as £25)

I like it. They look singular and sound immense. Now all I need is to find a Dutch geezer to nick one from.
