From that post above, this seems easily worth the (Quite small i would say) sum of £1.69 a month. I'll definately be subscribing come payday, as right now i don't even have £1.69 to my name. Liam
He he, me skint too I will also be subscribing soon though. It cant be any worse than that Bass Player magazine, which is, what £40 a year ? can it ?
Use a drill press. It's the only way to guarantee as far as possible that the holes will line up. With the press I have done this using the bridge plate as a guide, the thin holes for the strings through from the top first, then take the plate off, flip it round and drill the holes for the ferrules using the thin holes. Using the press it's easy to guide the drill to the exact spot, you can do a slow, controlled bore and you have a depth stop (or mark the depth with tape). Remember to put some scrap wood under the body when drilling through to prevent splintering/lacquer cracking.
a big + 1 on this. A drill press is the only way to go for a straight drilled hole. But also make sure that your bass is clamped down firmly but on a flat level. If you dont then even the worlds top of the range drill press wont make the holes come out aligned and straight.

Audacity is fantastic at what it does, considering its totally FREE. It is however a tad flakey, and its .dlls or engine seems a little sensitive. It does not take much for the lot to fall over and stop responding or throwing up error messages, that nesesitate an actual reboot of ones computer. As just a fresh re start of Audacity itself will often just not do. Does anyone have any alternatives to this ? I mean something also freeware or shareware, not some Pro tools for £500 or somethind, and which would take a year to learn anyhow? I am not hopefull on this, but you never know.

Lost Modulus Graphite SPI-5 Sentimental Value - Need to Find
daz replied to tds2277's topic in Bass Guitars
Hope you get it back. With those details and because it was legally sold, if its still out there you stand a reasonable chance, (say one in five) which is better than most. But how long it will actually take is anyones guess. I presume you have done the obvious things such as going to all the Modulas Forums you can find. First of course you need a bigger picture. When exactly did you pawn it ? -
Ah The Tube for those of us of a certain age it was a real Friday night ritual to watch while you were Doing your hair before going out. (hey it was all spikey hair, precision cut flat tops or big quiffs back then even for the lads ) Great show, never bettered.
best encore ive ever seen at a gig was squeeze supporting the tubes at hammersmith odeon with both bands all together on stage doing baba oreilly!
Was that the 1979 gig where..... there was a last minute announcement made to the crowd about a delay because Squeeze drummer Gilson (The Bear) Lavis had been taken ill. The audience were told Squeeze would be playing with a replacement drummer, Namely Tubes percussionist and former member of (Latin sound) Santana, James Mingo Lewis. Apparently Lewis played with Latin flourishes totally inaproriate to the music Squeeze played, but was still sort of wierdly mesmerizing, like a slow motion car crash ?

Just tried it today with same bass/lead/speakers and no pops or crackles ? The Kilo amplifier you mention is finaly released at last I hear ? The only one i saw up to now was last year with Billy Sheehan test driving it. But its supposedly in the shops now. Wish i could afford one
Sounds similar to a problem I had with an old Trace V-Type combo, weird earth design on the preamp fixed by adding another cap on the supply rail or something. They're very similar preamps, maybe the same issue?
It is wierd that its just stated happening after two weeks from new out of the box. I have barely used it for more than 3 hours in total, as i now practice through headphones on my Zoom 2.1u I will be seriously pissed off if this doesnt magically fix itself. Its more annoying that i dont actually know any other bass players in my city whom i can take it round to, to see if it does the same at their place. Which would at least rule a few causes out. Sometimes i think that being the only welding bass player i know in this town is a lonely job. I suppose someones gotta do it. cue the violins, while I go off to pick out the haunting theme from 'The Vikings' and stare out the bedroom window (across the builders yard)

Damp is caused by air condensing onto surfaces. the best way by far to combat this is by proper ventalation. (that is if you have ruled out rain penetration, and rising damp, which should be simple enough)
Condensation comes from water vapour within the building. Common sources may include cooking, bathing etc. The moisture in the air condenses on cold surfaces. Buildings with poorly insulated walls are very prone to this problem. It often causes damage similar to damp in a building and often appears in similar places. This is because it occurs in the "dead air" pockets that accumulate in both horizontal and vertical corners (i.e. out of circulating air patterns). In the United Kingdom, condensation problems are particularly common between October and March - to the extent that this period is often referred to as the "condensation season."[sup][6][/sup] Identification of condensation If it is suspected that the problem is condensation, then a room should be sealed off with a dehumidifier left running for the recommended time and then further instrument tests made. If the dampness has disappeared, then condensation is very likely the problem. Alternatively Humiditect cards or dataloggers (measuring air humidity, air temperature, and surface temperature) can be used as tools for diagnosing a condensation problem.[sup][7][/sup] Treatment Typical remedies for condensation include increasing background heat and ventilation,[sup][8][/sup] improving the insulation of cold surfaces and reducing moisture generation (e.g. by avoiding the drying of clothes indoors).
What *really* p*sses me off is the number of utility progs/etc which want to install "information bars" or similar into your browser - if you allowed them, you'd have no screen space left at all. G.
Oh yep I agreesy. If you dont want them. You have to go to 'custom install' and make sure you un-tick the boxes to not include the tool bars etc. It calls it 'Custom Install' to scare off people who dont know too much about computer software. Often specifically pointing out that this is a supposedly dangerous route to take and only people like Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak, should dare to take on.

I think i just hear a few crackles form the new amp. I hope that was just my raggedy playing style and not a foreboding of another failiure of amplifier. Your all my witnesses, you heard it as well didnt you ? Edit: now its having minor crackling pulses for two seconds then starting over again. Much louder if i roll the bass off. Seems to be earth related ? When i touch the pickups or jack mount the sound changes.? I tried different basses and leads Will try the old Behringer amp in the morning to see if its the speakers.

As Doddy is away I will get my whip out........

Is this the bass tab thread ? anyone know where i can get some bass tabs ? Or will Doddy be bringing some back ? -
This bass here below Steve_Soar recently intoned my beautiful to look at, Swamp ash with maple neck and rosewood fretboard Farida FPB 18 for me, a month back. It was certainly better, but still not to my liking. Indeed I have never liked the sound it gave, since i bought on sale it for a bargain £150 from Dawsons, reduced from its normal £350. For those who dont know about them. It is a P bass body with a Jazz neck, and some quality in house wound, Farida humbucks. It has a fine smooth satin finish to top it off, and just feels so good in the hands. Its got such great potential, that i didnt want to give up on it and sell it on. Not least because it was such a bargain. Also b ecause I'd not get what it was worth. Its worth more than £350 to me any day of the week. Certainly I would stand my Farida up against any production bass, and have confidence in it, not been shown up. So have been looking for a way to use it to my liking. I have tried all sorts of strings on it. The strings it came with were ok, but didnt seem to suit it, as far as i was concerned. Just too trebley for me, no matter what i did, just sounded wrong to me. Also it was very loud, by far the loudest bass i had. Not that it was a bad thing, just an observation. Anyway so I got some Rotosound RS88LD Black Nylon Flatwound strings from the Bass show last week. I put them on my old Westfield P - bass and they were ok but didnt seem right. The E string gave a dull 'thunck' played acousticaly and even plugged in it wasnt right, no matter what i did. Anywho. I thought a swap might be in order. It certainly couldnt be any worse i thought. After I had the black nylon strings on the Farida. I tried it unplugged and they sounded ok ish but still the E string wasnt right. It was better than on the Westfield but still a bit 'off' So i obviously had to try it plugged in to my Hartke. When i did. WOW ! what a difference it made. I tried the bass line to 'Come together' by The Beatles (with its famous long slides) as recommended by Nigel Clutterbuck, to show off the strings, and it sounded just 'spot on'. I tried a few old faves and it sounded pretty damn fine. I tried playing the Stranglers track 'Princess of the streets', and i played it with a pick. Wow it sounded so good i played it over and over for maybe half an hour. I was so happy with the sound. As an added bonus the old Farida strings sounded excellant on my Westfield P- bass, (they were barely used as i didnt like the sound so never played it) even though i'd had to widen the nut for the Tru Bass strings (they are an ordinary 45 - 100 size but the nylon covering makes them thicker to 65 - 115) and the 'A' string vibed a little if played open. Nevertheless the bass also played like a dream, sounding better than it was before. Oh happy day !

Funnily enough i have just had this problem with my Farida P bass, or thought i did. It was when i put on some new Rotosound Tru Bass black nylons. The E string had a dull "thunck". Especially when i hit the G, D, A strings and then the E. It just sounds wrong. Now, i should mention that this was playing it accoustically last night. When i tried it with my Zoom B2.1U with headphones it was a little better, but no perfect. Tonight i tried it with my Hartke LH 500 through some Behringer 450 watt speakers, it sounded much better. Dunno why. Dunno if its the strings or the bass ?

In 2004 I saw RHCP in Phoenix park in dublin, with about 100,000 other people. Even the huge screens were dots in the distance from the back. I swore id never see them again unless it was in a smaller venue (under 3000) which seems highly unlikely.
Many years ago I got interested in metal detecting and found quite a few silver ha'pennies and farthings. They were easy to identify as they were, quite literally, silver pennies that had been cut in half or quarters. http://finds.org.uk/...denomination/40 In their time, they were 'real' currency and worth their denomination - not like today's 'tokens'.
I have always fancied doing a bit of metal detecting myself. Being a bit of a history buff, it all ties in. However the prices of any half decent metal detector has always put me off though.

I have just found out i can plug in to my Zoom B2.1u to the computer via its USB cord and record to hard disc or cd with Audacity. Dont even need a dedicated sound card! ! wahooo! Top of the pops here I come. Hey no hold on...... TOTP isnt on anymore. Oh and you apparently need a modicum of talent too, so thats me out. (dosent seem to stop some buggers though)

I feel debased. Wot a swizz, coppers no longer copper (or bronze should i say. they were never copper)
-
How come a new penny is sticking to the pickups of my P bass ? I thought these were bronze (96% copper. 3% tin, 1% zinc) ?
