1. Ah Dood, its a shame you are not going. You were the only one from Basschat that I recognized at last years Manchester bass day. I would have come up and said 'Hi' this year.
2. Just let me be sure about one thing. Was it S&S who built the frankenball bass? and if so who at S&S okayed it and who built it? Its great that refunds are being made but surely somneone commited fraudulent practice.
3. Still no sign of Jah Wobble confirmimg any appearence at this years bass day. Nothing on his website, or the bass day site ?

Since the site changed I have not been able to use my internet Explorer spell checker. Or at least it has not popped open as I type on the forum. Anyone any idea why this should be so. Also has anyone else noticed/not noticed this effect (ie: is their Internet Explorer 'add on' spell checker working fine)

6.
Totally inexcusable now. With the amount of messing around they've inflicted upon you if there was a problem with the van they should have made alternative arrangements, even if it meant the MD putting the basses in his car and personally driving them up to you. At the very least they should have let you know there was a problem yesterday.
I have to agree with Red. If' the van broke down' (ie the driver never turned up this morning as he is in bed with a hangover) Then, someone personally driving them over to you is the very least they could do. The level of customer service you are receiving for the money you spent is ridiculous. For instance, I used to give better customer service than that when I was selling rare Sherlock Holmes articles on ebay and the like. If it was a disc that was going abroad, I would often put in a spare disc, just in case there was anything wrong with the first one. Or i would accept cash even though i might lose out a little when changing it, or send someone a dvd before the cheque had cleared, etc etc. I found that people were usually extremely greatful for me going the extra mile, and oftten became regular customers, or would reccomend me to friends etc. All that, and my average transaction price was maybe £30. A lot less than the average transaction price at S & T or EBBM. I hope that this is picked up by people who might be considering going with S&T (or EBBM for that matter) It seems that try before you buy is the future maxim. Even if that means a car journey.
7. Good luck with this one Gareth. Interesting to hear all that about the Dingwalls. I am definately not a 5 string person. But still would love to try a Dingwall out, so I will be keeping my eyes out for one at the bass day in Manchester next month. (never heard of the novax system, I must admit)
8.
Why does it have a Precision logo?
maybe its schizophrenic ? also if im pedantic, technically thats not a bridge cover, its a pickup cover
9. OBBM will do you Neutrik jacks and klotz / Van Damme cables, whatever you require.

electra Bass

Talking of Rod Argent. The band he was in prior to Argent, was The Zombies. (they had a big hit with She's not there) They are touring soon, and fortunately for me one of the places they are playing at is in Wrexham, not far from me, On 17th November. see here if you are interested. I wonder if he will have that guitar with him?
12. Any GnR fans out there? The bass player from Guns N Roses, Duff McKagen is touring the UK with his band Loaded. He is playing just up the road from me in Wrexham on the Friday 4th before Bass day, but I will still probably go. I cant say I am a huge fan but it is something to do. http://www.songkick....loaded/calendar ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also: The Zombies appear at the same venue on 17 Nov. What a great band featuring Colin Blunstone - vocals, Rod Argent - organ and vocals, Jim Rodford - bass, Tom Toomey - guitar and Steve Rodford - drums. http://www.allgigs.c...ember_2011.html In case anyone is wondering. I am only mentioning these two bands as they are appearing at The Central station in Wrexham, which is a small intimate venue and a good place to see a band close up, not a dot in the distance or 100 yards away between a sea of peoples heads. Also i think both gigs are only £17.50, not bad these days.
13.
Besides which, in UK we tend to say 'Lezz' Paul, but US pronunciation would be more like 'Less' Paul.
The US varient is probably more correct as the Guy whom its named after is Lester not Leslie Paul
14. Youth was my personal fave Killing Joke bass player. He played on at least the first two LP's That first Killing Joke album, has to be an all time favourite for any bass player who has heard it. (if you havent heard it, then what are you waiting for ?)
15. The worlds skiniest, Skinny Ties ? (The world smallest ties, for skinny cats ?)
16.
That seems a bit nit-picking, but, OK, He turned up and played on only two tracks of the 'Never Mind the Bollocks' Album. Which was certainly two more tracks than I (or anyone else, apart from Jones and Matlock)) did. I've not read his autobiography, I just got my information from what Glen told me himself, but maybe the truth got in the way of a good story. There was a guy around them at the time called Ed Tudor-Pole, he sang on a couple of post-Lydon tracks, who I did some work with, and his comments certainly concurred with Glens'. Anyway, still a great unsung hero in my book, and a bloody nice guy to boot.
I wouldnt say it was nit picking. It is what it is. Glen only played on two tracks of Never mind the bollocks, and thats that. I dont think it undermines his contribution to one of the worlds greatest ever bands. I think the fact that they never wrote another proper song after he left, says much more about his real contribution to NMTB, which certainly would not exist without him in any shape or form. Glen was the major force in writing songs. More often than not Steve Jones would sit guitar in hand waiting for Glen to come up with a (riff) idea he liked for him to spark off. I love Glens playing and some of my faves are 'Dont give me no lip child' 'substitute' 'road runner' and the few other Jam tracks on Rock N roll Swindle.(an otherwise awful album in my humble opinion) This was as im sure you know, the only album Eddie Tudor Pole was on, and then only a few tracks. I saw Ten Pole Tudor, bottom of the bill supporting The Ramones and The Boys, way back when the world started, never thought much of them. I think Eddie is a way better actor than singer. When i mentioned Glens work being heard on bootlegs that were rough , i hope it wasnt taken that i meant Glens playing was rough. His playing was always solid and dextrous, and can often be heard though the fuzz of rough bootlegs. Jonesey himself admitted that in the begining only Glen knew how to play properly. His perfect rendition of the tricky bass part from the Faces song "Three Button Hand Me Down" got him the gig, no questions asked, Only much later did he find out that Ronnie Lane had played on two tape tracks and merged them together. So kudos and all that to Glen.

18.
Curtley Ambrose, West Indies fast bowler.
He used to live accross the road from me. At night sometimes i'd see him and one of my sexy young neighbours, meet and sit outside cannodling. Never heard any bass from his house though.
19. are you after just the module or the pots as well ?
20. GAK are having it picked up monday, on their tab.
21. Squier/Fender Jazz bases do have smaller/slimmer necks than Squier/Fender Precision bases though, and this is true of most J bases whatever the make. This could well be a deciding factor if someone has small hands.
22. How much does a Squier vintage modified bass, weigh? Is it not a bit heavey for a young kid ? (i did google it, i got 13 lbs 18lbs and 12 Killos, i hope non are correct ? ( not the last two anyway) Bloody hell my Classic Vibe Squier is only 11lb)
23. Sounds to me pretty obvious that the original order was lost, and this was a rush job botch and they hoped you would not notice. PS if you ever buy another one, why not get a trusted friend to buy it for you, and try and trick your bad luck gremlin that way ?
24. Are we sure Mr Wardle is playing ? It's just that when i was a nipper in 1973, the local amateur football team The Chester nomads were supposedly playing an exhibition game against an all star team, including Bobby Charlton, and Nobby Styles. As the ground was literally just up the road from me, we went as did many others. Some of whom had travelled miles. Needless to say Mr Charlton never turned up.(not his fault as he'd never actually said he would play we later found out) In fact nobody recognized a soul in the supposed 'Star Team' that wet and windy day. This is the day my youthfull innocence and trust in all things good and truthful was robbed from me. Strangled by the hands of greed disapointment and hyperbole. Though largely unkown I belive this was the cause of the last lyching in british history, when certain elements who had travelled from affar to see Charlton (who had just retired from Man United) got hold of the organizers, who thought they were safe from harm in the Cricket Club 'members only' bar. PS: first division footballers still played for charity teams back in the 70's. None of this club stopping them, or insurance company banning them nonsence. The stars from Liverpool and Everton could often be seen out on the East lancs road on a Sunday afternoon, doing sliding tackles on the concrete car park in their best suits,When they sometimes took on the local Sunday pub side. Can you Imagine Tevez, Ronaldo and Ashley cole doing that ?? (yes I've gone off on one of my tangents again )

electra Bass

I was watching the Old Grey Whistle Test, dvd boxset last night. One of the bands was Argent, who performed the famous "God gave rock and roll" track in 1973 (this was the original, before Kiss carbon copied it. It was written by the singer from Argent's brother. I'll bet he's made a few bob from it over the years?) . The guitarist had an electra guitar, which holes in it. Like the one pictured below on the left, ....Or at least i thought he did untill I saw the two pics side by side. the original with Russ Ballard on the right appreas to have a Fender neck ? Can anyone shed any light on this ? I have just re looked at the DVD and indeed the one Russ Ballard uses appears to have a Telecaster neck ? Can anyone shed any light onto this little puzzle. Was it a mutant Fender /Electra ? Or was it a lobotomized Fender with a Telecaster neck and holes made in the body of a Fender? The horns certainly do not match, do they ? The guitar was of great amusement of the comentators Mark Ellen and David Hepworth on the additional extras commentary track. "its a piece of cheese with holes in. Ho Ho" etc etc. The guitar above in yellow, was not surprisingly nicknamed 'the cheese'. I have just now seen its twin brother, in bass format. The Royal Electra Bass. Here is a pic. II would still love to know about this bass, even if it wasnt the brother of one that the guy from Arbent used, as it just looks so mad. Maybe that was a reason he possibly had it copied to a Fender ??Maybe he loved the style, but tried one and didnt like the tone, or just couldnt get on with it. I was wondering if anyone can tell us more about it and has anyone used or ever own one ? more pics of bass here.
