Sold - Warwick Rockbass Streamer 5 String - £200 Delivered
I struggle to look at basses with a pick guard that looks like it's off something else, I get that that is the point. Seafoam with a musicman pickup and a black 3 ply guard made to follow the body and pickups, pop on a fifth string and that might be pretty cool!
This, plus semi-hollow (to keep the weight down to near 8lbs) and an f hole (because I'm a sucker for one of those)

If you were going to buy a P bass, what model would you get?
6feet7 replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
An early '80's Tokai Hardpuncher with Lindy Fralin pickups and badass bridge. The lightest, most resonant, perfect sounding P bass I've ever heard. Unfortunately it was Fender shaped (so I wont play it, out of principal) and a 4 string (I play 5). -
Just bought a Markbass head from Martyn. Great guy. Great communication. Can't wait to see what he has for sale next
I think I am. I've been thinking a lot about this recently due to the olympics, where the athletes are not only physically gifted and specifically talented but are willing to give up everything else in search of being as good as they can possibly be. I lack the need or the drive to get better and enjoy doing what I do as the level I'm at.
This

A GUS G3 Retro. Was £5k at the time (they are £7K now and probably going up since Prince had a G1 guitar and had ordered a G3 bass before he died. Sold it for a great loss. Now play a secondhand Chinese Warwick Streamer NT1 5 string (£500 plus £120 worth of German preamp and pots) and Korean Warwick Pro Starbass 5 string (£700).

Now £50.00 I bought this a couple of years ago on basschat and never got around to using it. Based upon the classic Orange Squeezer circuit, just updated to give greater tonal control (according to the blurb - never having heard of the squeezer I can't comment) Handmade in the USA. £150 new. Here's the details http://www.toadworks.../MrSquishy.html and a review http://www.ovnilab.c...s/squishy.shtml Also just found this post - think it's who I bought it from. http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2704169

I think I'm below average (root notes are my favourites and often songs will be simplified) but I'm in three bands, raging from middle of the road pop/AOR to heavy metal, and everyone seems happy enough. I know I should be a lot better (but I don't think I could be better, my ability just isn't there), but I'm happy enough so I've given up stressing about it

Lehle P Split - High Impedance Splitter - Withdrawn.
6feet7 replied to 6feet7's topic in Effects For Sale
The Lehle P-Split II combines passive splitting with maximum signal fidelity. Its core is the Lehle LTHZ high-end transformer, which electrically isolates the two outputs, eliminating the possibility of ground loops. The Lehle LTHZ was specially designed for use with high-impedance signals but also splits low-impedance signals with uncompromising sound quality. The signal can be picked off either symmetrically or asymmetrically from the ISO output. A phase inverter switch with gold-plated contacts permits reversal of input signal phase at the ISO output, preventing phase cancellations from impairing signal reproduction. The classical application for the Lehle P-Split II is splitting of an input signal to the two outputs, enabling you to connect your instrument to two devices, which may, for example, be two amplifiers, or an amp and a mixer or recording unit (PC/DAW). Thanks to the facility for also picking off the signal balanced on the ISO output, the Lehle P-Split II is eminently suitable for use as a high-quality compact DI Box for all types of signal. Another useful application for the Lehle P-Split II is as an effective suppressor for unwanted hum. Background noise occurs again and again, caused by ground loops, when two electronic devices are connected to each other - the Lehle P-Split II provides a simple, but extremely effective, remedy, being installed between the two units. Using the ISO output, the two devices are electrically isolated, and this background noise becomes a thing of the past. And: the Lehle P-Split II needs no separate power supply! -
AC/DC with Axl were awesome when I saw them in June - even better than with Brian the previous year. I think Cliff's great, but his absence would not stop me going back for more.
I've seen AC/DC 5 times since 1980 and the gig with Axl was the best I've ever seen them (I missed out on the Bon era). They've still got Stevie Young on rhythm (filled in for Malcolm in the 90's and did Rock or Bust) and Chris Slade on drums (did the Razors Edge and Live at Donnington) - so the band isn't exactly all new. It's just not classic era (show me a band which is). I'm sure there's a hidden Young relative who can play bass. And Axl absolutely nailed it. Bring him back. Would love to hear an AC/DC album with him singing. I remember a review of Stiff Upper Lip saying that Brian sounded like an asthmatic goose (and that was over 10 years ago). Also, since when has Brian been so venerated? Up to this year he was always compared, unfavourably, to Bon. Now he's the best singer AC/DC ever had. I understand they are releasing a DVD of the latest gig with Axl. I'll be first in line (or prebook on Amazon more like) to get that.

Bloody typical. There's me slagging off the Beatles and a new band I'm auditioning for (our local Heart FM radio station are putting together a covers band) want me to learn A Hard Days Night. Arghhhhhhhh It's Karma (George Harrison would love that -
You had to be there, that's why you don't get it. Not liking The Beatles is understandable. If your standing vertical and playing an electric bass guitar in any kind of rock band you are influenced by The Beatles whether you know it or not and whether you like it or not. Blue
What is this ' you had to be there' rubbish. I'm not a 20 year old you know. I was young when the Beatles were around but I remember them well - my parents thought they were rubbish because they weren't Mozart so I had to listen to 'pop' radio under my bed covers or in the garden when they weren't around. I didn't like them then and I don't like them now, however wonderful and influential some people think they were. I was a Stones and Who fan. Could we stop this 'You had to be there' crap. You can only use that if you know the other person wasn't there I was there, and I only live about 30 miles from Abbey Road. I would also say that I am more influenced by the American Motown bass players and their ilk. Once again, don't assume you know someones influences. End of rant. This is getting exactly like that Pino post. -
If you want an extender bar (that I bought for my 1964 Gibson EBO and sold for a stupidly cheap price) I still have one in my 'bits and pieces' draw.
I saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. How much it adds to the story is debatable. but it's a great movie and I would urge even the sceptics to try and see it when it eventuality gets streamed/Netflixed and DVD'd to death. My "take away" was just how good a live band they were, even in a hail of teddy bears and Jelly Babies. I guess playing for six or seven hours a night, seven days a week in German clubs can really sharpen you up... After the film ended came the best part for me - the showed all thirty glorious minutes of the enhanced Shea Stadium gig. Absolutely superb. Paul trying to keep it together, Ringo knocking seven shades of something out of his kit and John and George goofing off. Yet it all sounds incredible. Still relevant? Yeah. They were accidental pioneers, breathing new life into a declining dance craze. The degrees of separation between them and the current crop of skinny white boys toting guitars increases with every generation, but that's a hell of a shadow they've cast. Their legacy will outlive all of us. It's OK to say "I don't like the Beatles", but to deny their influence and colossal importance is foolish.
OK. I'm going to say it then. I don't like the Beatles. But I also don't like anything any of them did individually afterwards either. Whatever their influence I just don't get it or them. -
i had a listen to some of their stuff, but they just seem to be ripping off Oasis.
And I'm not too keen on them either -
I'll never understand why you guys mock and have very little appreciation for this incredible part of music history which is yours. Or is pride another culture difference? Blue
This Also we are sarcastic and ironic in the UK. So sometimes what we say is the exact opposite of what we mean. -
My Rumble 500 lasted less than 5 minutes after unpacking it before it stopped working. I took it straight back to GAK for a full refund. Wouldn't touch one again with a bargepole.

I had an Aria SB1200 once - hardly any of them ever made so should be easy enough to spot if it comes onto the market

I've had two LR Baggs Acoustibasses and one SD5. All brilliant basses. I don't know why they arnt as well known as other brands as they are superb instruments.

I've had both an A4 and a B4 and thought they were both fantastic basses, and in my opinion are up there with basses worth double. I did change the Bartolinis for Nordstrand pickups (the A4 had already had them fitted and I saw some going cheap on ebay so fitted them to the B4) but they were already pretty brilliant basses. Buy with confidence.
