1. Fender Squier Pro-Tone 5 string Precision Bass Apart from some tarnishing of the gold around the high-mass bridge, the guitar is in immaculate condition (with no major scratches, dings or fretwear), weighs about 8½ lbs on the bathroom scales and plays beautifully. I'm afraid there is no case or bag but I'll include a leather strap. From the internet: One of the eleven Fender Squier Pro-Tone models produced in Korea between 1996 and 1998, this is the 5-String Precision bass in red, with gold hardware and rosewood neck. The Fender Corporation discontinued the Squier Pro-Tone range shortly afterwards, as it was seriously undermining sales of US-built Fenders, due to the quality of materials used and the high standards of build in Korea (many were built in the Cort factory). Since then, the Pro Tone series has become something of a collector's item in Europe and the US. More information on Squier Pro Tone guitars (including the reviews in 'Guitarist' and 'Total Guitar' magazines) can be found here on: http://www.21frets.c...protonepage.htm
2. Just done an exchange with Keith. Loads of communication to sort everything out. I would happily deal with again anytime.
3. I can't comment on the 32 inch scale but I've a 34 inch Chinese Warwick Rockbase Streamer neckthru and it's wonderful. I have just had all the electrics changed to German Warwick but it was pretty good before and the neck isn't too big and appears extremely stable (in this humid weather) and for a 5 string it's only about 8 1/2 lbs in weight. My only issue is that I have the chance to get a Korean Warwick Starbass 5 and this might have to go to pay towards it otherwise it would be a keeper.
4. They look a bit like an active version of the Korean Squier Protone Bass V from the mid 1990's (high mass bridge, humbuckers, light weight). I always swore I'd never play a Fender (or Squier) but it's my go to bass now.
5. I use this instrument selector. Expensive new (I bought it secondhand) but works a treat
6. I did have a £7000 GUS G3. I now play a £200 Squier Protone Precision
7. I've had a £7000 GUS G3 bass and now play (both secondhand) a £200 Squier ProTone Precision and a £500 Warwick Rockbass Streamer (both 5 strings). There is a difference but not 35 times the difference. If you are a pro then I understand getting top quality. For pub rock I can't see the point.

9. I've gone from a £7000 GUS Active Retro (absolutely stunning in every way but I was afraid to take it out of the house) to a Chinese Warwick Streamer 5 (£400 - but I have replaced the internals with German Warwick MEC stuff) and a Korean Squier ProTone Precision 5 (£200). Very very happy with both and can't ever see the need for going for anything much more expensive.
10. I bought this earlier this year from GAK (£479) as I was looking for something very light weight (which it is) but it's not getting used in the band I'm in so it's last in last out. I've played it twice at home for no more than 30 minutes. I put a set of DR Lowriders on (£30) but will include the D'Adarrio's it came with. I've also got the paperwork/tools it came with but I'm afraid there is no hard case, just an old gigbag. It's as light as a feather (so great for all those shoulder aches and pains) and it's the road worn version. 11. I used to play Eggle guitars. By far the best on the market at the time, in my opinion. Got to sell my Ibanez Artcore 5 string first but have a bump on me
12.
If this was a 5 string I'd buy this... Good luck with the sale!
13.
Blatant plug but I've got a couple of these marked down in the For Sale Section http://basschat.co.u...-tone-sunburst/ - Stephen
If only they were 5 strings......
14. I've just bought the Ibanez Artcore 5 string (the bashed up looking one). What a sound. Lush, gorgeous and so easy to play (and it's light). B string feels and sounds great too. Why didn't I go shortscale before?
15. As well as feeling for Prince's nearest are dearest I feel so sad for my friend Simon Farmer of Gus Guitars. He had just given Prince a guitar he made for him several years ago and only just managed to get it to him (it cost Simon about £9,000 to make). There's a photo of Prince playing it recently and he had commissioned a bass from Simon as well. This was Simon's big break (or not
16. I'm having to go for a light weight 5 string bass (neck/shoulder issues when playing) and like the look of the Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow AGBV205A-TCL 5 String Bass. I like an average to loose tension string (I use DR Sunbeams usually) but I was wondering (as it's a 30.3 inch scale bass) what the best strings (half rounds, smooth feeling rounds or flats. I'm not a massive fan of barbed wire roundwounds) would be that would have some treble along with an old fashioned bass sound and also be good enough to have some definition on the B string (so it's not all muddy). Any advice gratefully received
17. Godin SD5 - 5 stringed bass with P and J pickups Made in America. Bought a few months ago but only used for one rehearsal - only just over 9 lbs on my bathroom scales but my neck and shoulder just don't like even that light weight. Looks as new (even though it's a few years old) except a couple of minor dings only. No buckle rash. Villex passive mid-tone boost instead of tone control. Godin hard case included. This one was going to be a keeper but I need something lighter for the sake of my spine.

19. Trade for this? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/279362-godin-acoustibass-semi-hollow-fretless-final-price-drop-before-its-traded/page__fromsearch__1
20. I've just gone over to 5 strings and play a Godin SD5 - absolutely love it. Neck doesn't feel much different to a 4 string but string spacing appears good as well (don't ask me how they do that). Bass Gear in Twyford have the latest version of this - http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product/godin-classic-shifter-5-trans-black-ma/ knocked down from £999 to £550 brand new.
