1. Why didn't you do it this last weekend. I've just come back from Cardiff. Hope it goes well and perhaps I'll manage it next year.
2.
I have put a Wilkinson Vintage bridge on mine. A lot more substantial than the BBOT and the Brass Saddles look a lot better. It does seem to make a difference in the sustain department. For just over £20 it was money well spent IMHO.
I did look at those but they didn't seem any different to what was already on the bass. I'll have a look more closely
3. Would sticking something like a hipshot bridge make any difference (apart from looks) to my VM Precision V? Reading up (on t'internet), sustain seems to be improved but not a lot else. I'm perfectly happy with the BBOM but wondered about the opinions of basschatters? Also would changing the saddles to brass on the BBOM make any difference? (I'd rather not spend any extra money if it doesn't really make much of a change).
4. Thanks for your help. We'll look into that
5. Depends on the venue - we don't have a desk so we either get one in or use whatever is available
6. OK, I've read through the last 25 pages and loads of different names (or should I say, letters and numbers that don't make any sense unless you actually know what you are talking about - which I don't) of different systems have been mentioned. I know the gear4music system ( http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Wireless-In-Ear-Monitor-System-Pack-by-Gear4music-3-Receivers/164T plus 2 extra receivers ) is cheap but there are 5 of us in the band and can't afford much more. Is it adequate for most general uses ie. pubs and weddings
7. Sperzel USA matt chrome locking tuners. There are 5 of them and they are reversible so you can have whatever configuration you want.
8. I totally agree - absolutely beautiful (and many many thanks for doing the exchange for it - you don't want it back, do you?). The problem is that it just isn't being used enough (not usually an issue but some big bills need paying
9. I had DR Sunbeams on my Warwick Starbass V (in the for sale section at the moment but wasn't getting the sound I wanted, so put some red labels on. It took a few days for the feel to 'feel right' but I can see no reason to go back to £30 - £50 strings as the Warwicks sound brilliant
10. 8 1/2 lbs (so about 3.85 kg - give or take) on our non digital bathroom scales.
11. I used to use DR Sunbeams but am now very happy with these:
I got on with Warwick Reds (£11.50 a set on Stringbusters) on my MIM Jazz. They sounded fine and seemed to last well.
12. I got this last year from basschat and must say it is probably the most beautiful bass I have ever seen. The problem is that I don't play it enough to warrant having it sitting here looking beautiful, and bills have to be paid. It comes with a hardcase (Epiphone Jack Casady version) and I've added an extra strap button higher up the body to help with balance (it now balances pretty well). It comes with Warwick straplocks and paperwork etc.
13. As far as GUS goes, Simon Farmer has (I think) finished making the G3 bass he had started making for Prince (I understand a collector got in touch with him and said he would buy it - for an undisclosed sum) and is also in the process of making a limited run of Prince G1 guitars, on top of his new G5 model. It would be typical that soon Gus guitars will cost an absolute fortune to buy just when I've had to (for financial reasons) had to get rid of my collection at a loss
14. I bought this from Bass Direct a few months ago for £845 (knocked down from £1125 but it has Jeff Berlin's signature on the back of the headstock - signed by him at a clinic at Bass Direct - thereby making it shop soiled). Only weighs 8 1/2 lbs (so about 3.85 kg - give or take) on our non digital bathroom scales. Old (tatty but solid) hard case that cost £50 included The specs and pictures are here: http://www.bassdirec..._Rithmic_V.html and I hope Skol303 doesn't mind me using his review: http://basschat.co.u...rlin-signature/
15. I'm a plodding 2 who is considering packing it all in as my wedding/function band are getting a photographer in to take pictures for the website and we are going to have videos on Youtube as well. I play bass to be at the back of the stage in the shadows. If I'd wanted the rest I'd have stayed a guitard.
16. Yup, that's the question. Would changing the bridge screw up the internals? Got to think. I just love the (light) weight of these basses.
17. I've had two of these in the past and absolutely love them. Only play 5 strings nowadays, but I'm wondering if I can somehow convert this to a 5 stringer?
18. If only it were a bit lighter in weight
19. Taking my wife's MINI in for a service at a main dealer and getting a courtesy car in return this Thursday and they have asked for my NI number. As we never usually use main dealers I've never encountered this before. Not a big problem but just never needed to before.
20. Welcome from sunny Buxted, East Sussex. What's taken you so long
21. Cliff Williams - nothing fancy (at all), but just locks in with Phil Rudd and drives the songs along. In my eyes that's what a bass player does (and leave the fancy stuff to guitards)
22. Having had two RB850's (and thought they were absolutely wonderful) and now play 5 string bass I am sorely tempted. Just got to see what the bank balance is like
23.
You've sorted out what you want, had it built and you're happy as hell. Five years later and GAS starts gnawing at your brain
This. I had a stunning £7000 British made GUS G1. Loved it to bits. Sold it for a fraction of what I paid for it and now play an £800 Cort (which I also love and am not worried if I knock it or even if it gets stolen).
24. Trade for a Warwick Pro-Series Starbass V plus a bit of cash?
