1. I did exactly this with my Squier VM P5. In my case it was a Badass II. I ended up siting the BA slightly further back than the original bridge to ensure I had enough travel for the B to intonate. Do this & you're golden. Along with taking all precautions to make sure it's dead centre etc.
2. But he did Angels, which is the Best Song Ever. The tool.
3.
I got an email today from them. Apparently there were two bassists called George who responded to the ad and they assumed we were the same guy. The other George called off on them, hence the cancellation! They were really very apologetic and sound genuine. I'm tempted to give them a bash... I'll mull it over!
All sounds a bit Scooby Doo to me. Watch yourself.
4.
I really shouldn't! But the ad is from about 2 weeks ago in the Glasgow area...
I've had a look (don't you just love Friday afternoons in 'work'...) & can't see any ads matching the clues so far. I take it it's definitely not this one tho https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-musicians-wanted/bassist-needed-for-queer-cabaret-pop-band/1196055562
5. They're after a bassist, we're all bass players...chuck us a link to the ad so we can string em along a bit
6. Ah Mr. Wyman...the Mr. Wyman who was publicly screwing an underage girl for years & totally messed her up. He should have the book thrown at him. Commenting on his playing is one thing, but how anyone can wish him a happy birthday knowing that is beyond me.
7. Rodney Skeet Curtis on this album & particularly this track. Tone, technique & most importantly groove to die for. http://youtu.be/QVMjS3sjNXk
8. Copying records. Put the needle on the vinyl...wait till the lick played...lift the needle...try to play the lick...try to put the needle just before the lick again...aaand repeat. Slow process, but may have taught me something about patience & perseverance. YouTube wasn't an option back when I started. It's an amazing tool & I often use it to see what other people are doing with covers I'm learning. But I can't help thinking with kids learning advanced techniques aged 8 & whatnot, there's a lot of feel missing in a lot of playing these days. Says the old timer XD
9. BC Rich Warlock here too. Used to draw em on me school books & everything. Big W.A.S.P. fan back in the day.
10. Never get nervous before I go on but recently introduced a number into the set that I sing lead on (Let's Dance) & felt the nerves the night we debuted it. Actually enjoyed the feeling, really got the excitement levels up. Did our sound on my own for the first time last night at a wedding. Had unenjoyable nerves all day & right thru the set. Have to get to grips with that now :s
11. I've been Bar Banned a few times down the years... Before I get me coat, can someone clarify the term 'weekend warrior' please? I'm in a functions band that does Fri & Sat most weekends when we're busy. We pull in a significant amount & we always strive to be pro in terms of product, equipment, contracts etc. However I also work a 9 to 5 as do the rest of the members. We very rarely do weeknight shows. Am I a WW?
12. Looks great, bought for holiday in 2 weeks (like everyone else it seems).
13. Spotify can't be beaten, works for us every time. Works offline or online for taking the inevitable requests when wifi is available.
14. Seconded on the Squier VM. Knockout bass for not much money, excellent build quality & sound, even stock. Recently started favouring it over my Am Dlx Jazz V, over 4 times the price! That said I string my basses E to high B, so don't know how a low B handles on it. Don't care either!
15. Lots of problems that aren't really problems seem to be coming up. Honestly, taking everything into account here no one'd ever go out live again. As technology gets better, cheaper & smaller, I reckon we will see significant falls in sales of big old fridges & the like, however highly regarded they are. There used to be an outfit around these parts where the bassist would take an 8x10 & monster valve head out to every single gig, be it the Dog & Duck or 300 capacity theatres. The gear looked great aye, but the word amongst the bass playing fraternity was that it was a bit cockish tbh. Used to love holding my hand out for a high five as we'd pass on various venues' staircases, me with a modest combo & this guy's eyeballs bulging out as he did the Pickfords shuffle out to the van XD
16. Right that's it, I'm taking deps for every position to every gig from now on regardless of whether a regular member is absent or not. & maybe even deps for deps. Multiple heart failure or dyssentry could strike at any time. You just never know.
17. Having recently flipped over to using an X18, our biggest fear is forgetting to bring the iPad. That really would be a show stopper!
18. Be interesting to know how many function bands go out with a backup PA. We certainly don't & I suspect most outfits don't either, just too impractical. But happy to be proved wrong. Anyway back on topic, looking forward to giving those then once over Kert, cheers.
19. Awesome mate, cheers. It'll be a few gigs & a holiday before I can stump up for em but the price seems well reasonable. One dumbass question - they're wired yeah? Not clear from what I can see, but it's been a long day at work...
20. I'm heading this way Kert, although I'll probably keep my ShuttleMax for preamp/DI as it's easy to transport & I've got the foot switch for boost etc. Main thing for me is decent in ears without spending loads. Don't mind if they're wired. What system are you using?
21. That sounds all wrong Kert but I know what you mean
22. Seconded. Great to meet a couple of guys off here in the flesh. Not to mention playing some fantastic basses in Gelfin's bassment of wonders! & Marc I'm not selling you your fretless back Till the next one!
