1.
Bars and clubs are my bands core business. However, being based in "The City of Festivals" Milwaukee WI we get our share of good festival and fair business in the Summer months.
What made Milwaukee famous made a Blueser of me... I'll get me coat.
2. Never knew you were a bar band guy Blue Spot on tho with everything there, particularly having one person talk $$ & the fact that it's a business.
3. None of my lot would suggest going lower than £400 for mates rates unless they waived their fee. An 'event' show is not a pub gig for the good reasons mentioned already. I worry tho as it sounds like you're the lone voice of reason, so this could come up a lot.
4.
Sounds just like Cardiff.
Haha not just me then!
5. Soooo many to choose from but Blackout from Heroes is one of his greatest hidden gems for me. Bowie in full poetic pomp over Murray & Davis' trashy, monstrous funk groove. Love it.
6. Just gutted. Absolutely love everything up to Let's Dance. Had to turn the radio off on my way into work, proper welling up at Starman. Didn't get on with Blackstar at first listen but given the circumstances will make efforts to listen afresh now. RIP Dave. Props to Visconti too for being a massive part of what became the legend.
7.
I suffer from Piper Alpha GAS. That is where you monitor the normal musical GAS but are completely oblivious to the GAS leaking out in other areas (car, electronic gizmos, nights out) until it is far, far too late.
Haha - made me think of a new one. Red Adair - the missus (or significant other). From Wikipedia: "... notable as an innovator in the highly specialized and hazardous profession of extinguishing and capping oil well blowouts [read: GAS]"
8. You're a lucky man Blue. I believe you have reached Gas Nirvana. Many have been there, only to find it is a temporary state of bliss. May your visit be permanent.
9. Auditioned a grumpy Hammond player a couple of years ago for an originals outfit I had going at the time. Despite having had over a fortnight to learn three songs he kept coming in with the wrong chords then waving his hands for everyone to stop & telling us WE were playing the wrong chords. We weren't & the audition didn't last even an hour before I told him we'd be in touch. Got home to an email from him with bullet points on where we are going wrong as a band, culminating in him saying he didn't want in! Pr1ck. Also auditioned a guitarist some years back for another originals thing. He was ok, then halfway thru the second number emitted a horrendous shriek of pain. His hand had visibly swollen & stiffened up so we suggested he get it sorted & come back another time. He refused & said he'd soldier on - he spent another hour or so trying to play but clearly couldn't & it was awful, never seen grimacing like it. Halfway thru my drummer cracked up & was trying to hide his laughter which set me off & we ended up pretty much laughing in the face of a guy who was obviously in a lot of pain. Just horrible. Said drummer still mentions 'Old Hurty Hand' from time to time XD
10. Was chatting with the missus last night (must remember to do that more often) & the conversation turned to my recent bass acquisitions (actually scratch the above). Tbh tho it was pretty lighthearted & we ended up coming with different names for GASeous states. It passed the time & made us chuckle so I thought I'd share. Chip in as & when Natural Gas - the requirement to purchase something that you actually need, like a replacement for knackered gear or if bassless/ampless etc. Trapped Gas - an urge for gear, likely outside of the Natural Gas category, which just won't subside. Gas Leak - trying to keep an imminent purchase on the downlow from your partner but getting too excited & letting it slip, a little bit. "Have a quick look at this on Basschat...isn't it lovely?" Controlled Gas Leak - gear purchased on the downlow is incoming & the time has come to gain a partner's implicit agreement prior to impact. "I got in touch with that bloke on Basschat in the end JUST to ask if he'd drop the price IF I could buy it & he said yes..." etc. Methane Gas - gassed for ages for something, get it & it's a real stinker. Fracking - perusing for sale ads for ideas for new & unneeded acquisitions due to money burning a hole in the pocket or inability to cope with no recent acquisitions. Deep Horizon - spending a load of dosh on unneeded gear which leaves the mortgage in jeopardy/makes the kids go hungry/results in eventual kneecapping.
11. 2005 MM SR5H in natural/maple. It's been gigged so not immaculate but VGC. Has the 3 position pickup selector (series/parallel/single coil) which makes it more tonally versatile than the 4 string Stingray. Action goes way low if required. Neck is a dream. GAS'sed for one of these for ages, got this & realised that I'll probably always be a Jazz & Precision man. Comes with original MM hardcase & strung with new D'addario Nickels. Bass is located in Cardiff. 12. PYT Michael Jackson is just one of the funnest, simple lines I've learned. Really chunky & on the groove, especially on the chorus. Another Part of Me is another fun MJ bass romp.
13. Put some lovely Genz Benz goodness in your life this Xmas! Awesome, lightweight 300W 8ohm cab with switchable tweeter. Just over a year old, one careful owner (me), bit of scuffing to the tolex but pristine grill & otherwise in perfect nick. Sounds like a beast, can do modern & old school with the tweeter options. Casters fitted for the ultimate in mobility. 14. I only go out with a 210 these days, raised off the floor to just below ear height. Admittedly we do always have PA support with the bass DI'd. We had a biggish corporate in Leicester last week & I added my 115 for the first time in about a year, thinking I'd need it for the large room. All I had was mud & the general sound was much improved for the second set after I'd disconnected it. Consequently I'm looking to flog it now Can't understand guys going out with 810s etc.
15. Sounds like a planning session over a couple of beers mate
16. Haha. There'd be no room at all in there then tho!
See, that's what the studio is missing!!
17. A KISS Dynasty limited edition picture disc from back in the day (500 made) I got signed by Paul & Gene . Swapped with an old drummer many years ago for some er, substances which of course were gone within 24 hours. He still has it up on a wall in his house & one day I'll pinch it back on grounds of principle. A fully functional KISS pinball machine which I gave FREE to an ex when I finished with her also many years ago to assuage my misplaced guilt. It used to play Rock & Roll All Nite when you scored enough points. Really missed that one. Also a Saxon VIP sew-on patch from when my dad incongruously roadied for them for one night back in the 80s.
18.
I'm not sure there is a target demographic. He has ideas. They manifest themselves into what you've just watched. He thinks it's perfect and doesn't care what anyone else thinks about. History tells us that he takes some degree of pleasure in doing virtually the opposite of what is expected of him.
I take it Dancing in the Streets isn't included in that XD
19. True about him staying different, good on him. Actually quite liked the last album. Still reckon the best work he did since Let's Dance was Stella Street tho
20. Love Bowie to bits but this is horrible.
21. Well-timed topic, my SR5 is getting Picato flats installed this very evening. Pretty excited to see/hear the results. I've got the same strings on a Squier P & they pop well with a lovely old skool sound, so hopefully will sound the bomb on the Ray
