1. Check out the Vanderkley cabs too.Superb quality and tone.
2. I've had my ABM 300 for 11 years now I think and it's superb. Never gone wrong and always sounds great. I don't like Ashdown cabs much and have always used cabs by other companies , I think thats where the woolly reputation comes from but the heads are great. I find the ABM pre amp really easy to use , huge sounding and everything from deep and warm to clear and bright. I would put my ABM against any class D amp , including the Streamliner , and it will sound better through the right cabs. I think the power transformer in them makes a big difference to the sound.
3.
DI your bass.... then your sound is only being coloured by the strings, your fingers and FOH. All amps and cabs colour your sound to a degree. Some a little some a lot. That's good; all you have to do is get the sound that you like from the whole signal chain.
Through the PA it is then being 'coloured' by the PA rig , desk , crossovers , amps , compressors etc etc. If you want to hear your bass totally uncoloured , don't plug it in !
4. Awesome , imagine performing that in front of the Zep boys ? Thats some pressure !
5. At the price that these cabs are I find it amazing that you should have to worry about the feet falling off !!
6. Given your location , wouldn't it be easier to just spend a day at Bass Direct ? You can try out a vast array of cabs , apart from Barefaced , and if you make a decision you could buy it and take it home with you.
7. I have a vanderkley 212mnt cab and It's fantastic. Very clear and detailed sound , very even across It's frequency range . Best thing is to try one with your head and see if It's for you though. I chose it over bergantino and genz benz cabs as it was just better to my ears , more 3 dimensional sounding . If you can get to bass direct with your bass and amp then you can give them a go and compare to lots of other cabs which is much better than buying blind and taking a chance .
8. I hope Ashdown don't start making all the ABM range with class D power stages eventually. Part of what makes the ABM huge sound is the power stage transformer. I haven't tried the class D ABM yet but I fear that it might lack something like a lot of other Class D amps do.
9.
Ashdown have a serious image problem at the moment, don't they?
Do they ? Please explain.
10.
Seriously? How on earth do carpenters make rounded table edges???? You can file down sharp edges you know!!!
I don't know thats why I was asking the question !!
11. The construction of those TC cabs worries me. I mean , what type of wood bends to make rounded corners like those ??
12. Why not just use the Di on your mark bass amp ?
13. I have a Vanderkley 212MNT cab too and use it for everything from big to small gigs and home practice ! I agree about getting a 112 Vanderkley if you want a smaller option though , that way you will be getting the tone you are used to in every situation.
14. That mod sounds interesting , would it also half the volume output from the pickup also though ?
15. I've tried a couple of pawn shop mustangs , in fact I have just tried a red one today . Lovely basses but I struggled to get much bite out of them unless playing with a pick , quite a mellow sound. Great to play though and the build and finish was superb. I really wanted to like it more but my p bass is a better fit for my bands I think as I play mainly fingerstyle and can get it to bite a bit more. Funny thing is I still would fancy a mustang !!
16. You can't beat a Precision or a Jazz in my opinion. My vote goes for a Precision though , it''s one bass that can be used for anything. Always works and always sounds good.
17. I see GAK have the pedal version listed at £229....ouch !!
18. If you're wanting quality build , finish and sound quality try the vanderkley 212 , can't fault it .
19. Wooly ? No , try turning some knobs and experimenting a bit. My ABM sounds amazing through the Vanderkley cab. It's the one head I keep going back to and would never sell.
20. My streamliner and vanderkley rig is definitely not scooped , very full and punchy sound. This rig just works so well in the band mix without breaking a sweat .
21. The streamliner is a fantastic amp , if you like it now just leave it alone. From past experience of other amps , I think any differences from changing valves will be very subtle and you probably wouldn't notice in a band mix.
22. I used hartke cabs for 10 years or so , used them with a lm2 for a while too. Always gave me a good sound and never let me down. My xl 4x10 cab will be up for sale soon and will be sorry to see it go but it's really surplus tomy needs at the moment.
23. This article may give some clues as to what drivers are in the cabs. http://www.vanderkley.blogspot.co.uk/2011_11_01_archive.html#7356650490055236796
24. Yep , got a 2112 mnt cab , amazing quality of sounds and build too .
