3. Why does no-one ever ask if it is easy to become a MUSICIAN ? T
4. Yep, no problem. Listen to it. Work out the notes. You'll go far further this way by training your ear instead of using TAB. Cue arguments. T
5. THanks for replies Bloodaxe and Molan. Jakesbass has much more information via his myspace link, which is on his entry a few spaces up. The idea of name labels seems like a good practical step in the right direction. I did consider a check list of people that has registered an interest in coming on thread. THis could then be used to check people coming in on the day, to the exclusion of all others. This would stop opportunistic thieves walking in off the street on the day. But it would also exclude genuine BC'ers that just didn't go on thread. It also wouldn't stop thieves from registering with BC just for the chance to steal something, although the likelyhood of that is low. Still, can't be too careful. Volunteers perleeease !!!! T
6.
Cheers for that. I'll look in to the paint. Do you know if I would need a base coat of some sort or do I just paint it straight on to the wood? Just got back from the gig and to be honest noise was a non issue, although I think I'll still try and shield it in case i play somewhere that has bad lighting etc.
The instructions are all the usual i.e. a clean, grease - free surface. Two good coats usually does the job. If you go to GuitarNuts.com, there is a lot of info. on the topic of guitar sheilding (but related to Strats), along with some alternative wiring diagrams for Strats and Telecasters. A very useful site indeed that one. Highly recommended T
7. Ok folks.. Jakesbass has agreed to do a Q and A session if he is free for the day and there is demand for him to do it. Jake has some very valuable experience as a bass player and previous comments here on BC have all been very positive. I for one, would like to hear more from Jake, as I'm sure there's loads I could learn from him. So, what would you all like to ask Jake ? Suggestions please...... T
8. More people will see it if you bring it to the London bass bash the very next day ! that's also in North London T
9. Ok Jack, here goes Security Two or three sharp - eyed and security concious people just to make sure that everyone's gear is totally safe while their attention is distracted. We can all suggest ideas for this topic (probably a good thing) i.e. some means of identifying people at the bash so that potential cruising thieves can be readily and easily identified. This type may turn up with an empty case and hope to fill it, then walk out looking perfectly natural. Please, please give up some ideas about security for the day Food The nearest shops are at least a ten (or more) minute walk away, which is a long time to be away from your own gear while it's on display. Additionally, there are some folks that will not cope well with a quick 'vending machine' diet for the day. Me included. There is a fridge/cold storage facility on site for our use for the day. I will bring a boiler for tea and coffee. It would be great if someone would step up and take charge of the food for the day. These are the two major roles that come to mind. If anyone can think of anything else, please speak up !!! T
10. Just checked this to make sure before I posted this ..... If you do an e -bay search for conductive paint, you will find a number of options available. Conductive Graphite paint normally does the job and is way easier than copper tape. T
11.
Any chance of a picture of this? 2x15"s would be total overkill for me, but I like the idea...
Sorry, have technical difficulties with uploading pics at the mo. T
12. Peavey 400 series MkIV head. Chucks out oomph by the barrowload. Not expensive either. T
13.
Regarding "for sale" can I suggest a two-pronged approach For small items, let's have a "bring and buy" table where stuff can be left out for viewing and priced - then we can either take money for items and hold it for sellers, or simply hold contact details. For bigger items (rigs, cabs etc) just put them in the main hall and stick a "for sale" notice on 'em?
Sounds like a workable plan. The only snag I can see with this is it may take someone to monitor this table and one or two other things. To date, we havn't had too many volunteers to do stuff on the day. T
14. As far as I know, selling things on the day is very much a loose concept i.e. if you want to bring something to sell, jump right in and bring it ! (but be prepared to take it away again if no-one buys it ! ) As a suggestion, stuff can be listed elsewhere as being available to buy at the London bass bash. If someone agrees to buy, then it's a collection deal. All ideas and suggestions around this topic are welcome of course. It's our event, let's make it what we want it to be cheers T
15. I'm looking at an ABM 1x15 in good condition that you can have for £60.00 if you like T
16. Now that's just cool. Congratulations +++ Hope the night turns out to be everything you ever dreamed of Full post gig report please !!! T
17. Hopefully, the tides will be kind and you'll get there ? You can have a go through my rig on the day if you like T
18.
Hey, I know this has been bought up before, but it’s a re-occurring problem. We have a gig on Sunday, four bands, we’re on third. I’ve been asked to bring all my gear to share, because “One of the bands has a guitar amp” WTF!! So among the other SIX guitarists, and THREE Bassists only ONE of them can bring their amp!! How do they practise? I have lent my amp out once before. And it got broken. Not dented or scratched. Fried. Not sure what they put in it, but it completely killed two Hartke 210XL’s and my Hartke HA3500 Head. I went out the next day and had to buy all of my gear again. £887. I lent it to two bands, so first band said “It was working when we used it” and second band said “wasn’t working when we used it”. Thus both avoiding blame. I really don’t want to bring my nice amp on Sunday now. But then again it kills me to have all this nice gear sitting at home, and here I am considering buying a crappy amp just to lend out at gigs. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m going out my mind here!
Just say no. No embarressement. No explainations. If any band is only getting to play because they lend out gear, they are being used. It's no. End. T
19. Hi Molan could you ask the caretaker if there is a cold storage facility for food please ? some salad stuff, milk and soft drinks would keep better there for the day. The taxi service near the station does free things up some cheers T
20. The JB 72 looks nice, but they all appear so heavily relicked as to create an impression of being totally knackered out. I'm not against the whole relicking thing as I have a roadworn jazz, but that work appears to have been done with little discretion. Shame to do that to what otherwise appear to be very nice instruments. Wouldn't mind trying one though T
21. Just secured to loan of a Belling boiler for the day to take care of the tea / coffee. Anyone want to do the tea or the food ? cheers T
22. Will you be bringing that to 'you know where' Jack ? T
23. I've just been out there on a reconnaissance mission, scoping out the scene. 1. Food The nearest shops are about 15 - 20 mins. walk away. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never been comfortable with the idea of a great deal of distance between my equipement and me in the public domain. This means setting up food and drink on site for the day. Anyone up for doing the food and drink on the day ? 2. Stations The nearest station to the London underground service is Arnos Grove. This is a good 20 - 30 mins walk away from the school. The nearest overground is New Southgate. New Southgate is the nearer of the two, but it's still a 10 -15 mins for a brisk unloaded walk. On the day I'm good to shuttle folks from the station to the venue, provided I have a little notice of requirements. If anyone needs to be collected at the beginning of the day, please let me know well in advance and be prepared to be collected earlier than the start time, as I will have to be at the venue for the start, of course. Anyone that can help out with collecting and dropping off people on the day, please step up, as I'm sure a few will be coming by rail. It's about 10 mins. walk from the nearest bus route. Security Anyone wishing to take on security tasks on the day is more than welcome. Details to be sorted. Molan, looking forward to hearing from you about the electrics. ok, it's 21 days to go folks ! look forward to seeing you all there T
