1. Ok folks, the time is almost upon us. I'm almost loath to suggest voting for stuff on this bash, given the current news issues .. ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!! WHO WANTS MORE VOTING ? however, I really don't see any other realistic way forward. Hmmm. There are two choices before us. 1. Venue location, between Deptford Creekside Studios, South Eastern London and a school in Friern Barnet, North East London. 2. Which particular sunday we are going for. Other points of business: There hasn't been too much coming forward for a raffle. Any donations / ideas welcome. More classes would also be welcome. Hopefully, next year's London bash will be properly organised without all this malarky. With more time available for planning, I don't see any reason why we couldn't borrow on the experience of some of the longer standing bashes up and down the country, which could potentially make for a crackin' day for all. So it's vote, vote, vote. T
 2.
mmm bass drum I had a terrible experience with my main band that actually alterd my mind about my drummer that then led me to think of it as another reason to leave the band. we done a gig where the whole band was miked up and the bass drum was thuding all through my head all the way through the gig, the trouble was it highligted that when the drummer done a fill hes bass drum stopped !, he was out of time , and limited too (same bass beat) i looked at the walll all night and refused to play the venue again . obviously when we played in pubs etc the bass drum was always lost. after that i could never lock in with him again no matter how hard i tried to relax and get in with him i even reverted to stop playing runs when he did!!! my limited experiencse is i play less notes when the drummer is good!!!! simply beacacuse he or she will clock the space and either use it or sync with you. and if the feel is there its there!! (im also contemplating having drum lesons!!) I played with a drummer in a soul band who was so nervous about the tempo of the tunes it was a bit daunting but boy when he played it just was wicked, then ive played with a funk drummer who just does it and he listens to what youre doing wich is awesome when we get it right we both smile, id hope that a drummer is checking out what the bass is doing and alll the best drummers ive played with seem to listen, and i do love the hi hat especially when you clock it and the drummer knows youre listening, i had a drummer telll me that i was the first bass player to notice hes hi hat!!!(hope thats what he meant)!! or maybe im a crap bass player talking gibblygooop!!!!!!!!!
Yes, yes yes, when you find a drummer that can work with the bass in real time = the best of times T
 3. Three of us in our school band played guitar. One of us had to take the bass and it ended up being me, for non musical reasons. Once I'd got to grips with it though, I realised it was actually really fun to play. That's when I took the paper round to pay for my first bass and and speaker. Always been keen to play every instrument I could get my hands on though and discover how it fitted in with the whole picture, whatever that landscape was at the time. Years later, ended up with 14 different instruments and sold most of them to get my first Goodfellow once I realised my true love is the bass. More recently offered to play guitar in my band when the right guitarist couldn't be found (at the time). Found myself soon after contemplating watching someone else play bass in my band. After a while, I realised I felt really sad and upset at the thougth of it Backed out of the guitar thing and stayed with my bass You know when something is instinctively right. T
 4. I did ponder this topic during the quite points of a gig last night. My earliest musical influences were almost exclusively classical. Not a drum kit on the horizon, anywhere. In every piece of music, there never seemed any doubt in my mind as to what the tempo was or where the beat (or perhaps, more appropriately, the emphasis) was. I later learned that Mars, bringer of war on Holst's Planets suite was in 5/8. Could tell you where the count was though years before I ever picked up an instrument or stopped wearing short trousers. T
 5.
i could never get it loud enough
Crikey !!!! My series 400 mk iv was shaking the stage floorboards last night. I've just checked the settings and the amp volume is up to 2, with still plenty more volume to go on my active bass. All the on board tone controls are practically flat !!! I use mine with 2 x Aguilar GS 112's. The bottom end puts a foot on the floor that the whole band just sits on. We did a sound check and finished before the DJ turned up. Once he got started, he pumped the volume and got that fat bottom end sound that you hear in the clubs through the big speakers. At that point, I was thinking to myself 'my bass is going to sound as thin as mist after this' Ha !! When we eventuall kicked off, I just added a fraction more to the lower frequencies on the graphic and my bass matched that DJ, No sweat ! At the start of our second set, the DJ was just overrunning the disco classic 'Young hearts run free'. I generally avoid playing along with the records in that situation (just looks unprofessional to me), but I did do a bit to compare the sound. Fitted right in, dead solid. The drummer loved it. I can't imagine a gig I would normally do that this amp wouldn't be able to cover, with plenty to spare. If a gig needs more volume than this amp can deliver, then frankly, I don't want to be in the same room with it !!!! It could probably break windows with ease. Ok, the open air Wembley gig may need more, but I'll sort that one out when I get up from the floor after hearing about the booking !!! I'll honestly admit my previous opinion of Peavey bass amps was heavily coloured by the more modern cheaper range that some London studios have. They are quite probably the very last amps I would ever use, given the choice. But the 400 series of the 80's and 90's are at the moment, about the best amp I've ever come across for that type of very solid sound, which is precisely what I'm after. I also have a Markbass Sa450, which sounds great through some EBS Neo cabs. The Hi-fi quality is fantastic and the tonal range is lovely. But I take the peavey to the gigs, despite the weight. It just delivers, in style. In fact, I was so impressed with the mk iv that when a mkiii came up, I drove 150 miles to get it and consider that time and effort well spent to have a backup of such an awesome amp. I find the word awesome frequently over - used these days, but if an amp deserves it, I'll happily put the 400 series forward for the honour. I'll bring mine to the London bash. I'm keen to see how it stands up against it's peers on the day. T
 6. thank you molan. I'll do all the sorting out tomorrow (saturday). T
 7.
What do you do if you are in a Who tribute band?
Oldgit beat me to it, in a way. Keith Moon used to accent Roger Daltry's singing and his drumming style frequently avoided patterns, so trying to lock into 'this or that bit of the kit' would have been an exercise in futility. I've avoided locking into parts of the drum kit because quite honestly, I've found many drummer's sense of tempo to be unreliable. In the end, I've been the one that keeps the tempo steady with the bass. Rather than gain tempo info. from one part of the band, I listen to the whole thing and rely on the most flexible and usable tempo regulator I've ever known, my own sense of time. T

 10. The owners manual for the Peavey 400 series advises master, then gain, initially. Goes on to say later that adjusting the gain gives 'different sounds'. Got a feeling there may be some long explanations on this topic. T
 11. may also pay to do some research on the type of fret wire used in construction. I was told by a luthier of some repute that some strats had tangs that were spread out. Pulling them out upwards results in the production of huge trenches in the fretboard, rather than tidy slots. Apparently the way to remove those frets is by pulling from the side rather than from above. Havn't heard this from anywhere else mind you. But it does make me think twice and check the edge of the board before reaching for the pliers. Just my 2p's worth T
 12.
We've been booked to do a couple of decent size festivals this summer. I received an email this morning from the organiser of one suggesting that we have to pay for our own tickets! OK, I've done freebies in the past, but paying to gig? Anyway, the other guys are somewhat taken aback, but before we go back to them and say 'no way', I thought I'd better check here? Chris
Invoice them in advance for twice the amount of the admission fee as your performance fee. That should bring the realities of the situation a little more into focus. Damn cheek !!!! T

 15. Congrats on that one. Something to tell the Grandkids one day. T
 16. Hi Chop have a look at guitarnuts.com. They give a lot of detail about strat wiring and (if I remember correctly) also go into the log and linear topics as well. Also, maybe contact Nordstrands ? hope that helps T

 24.
Rubbish playing style, I can clearly see his left thumb isn't in line with the centre of the neck! Must do better! Had the Starlicks video he had out in the 80s and played it til it died. Much prefer him too MK or the other slappers. BB If anyone has a dvd copy of said video would be v interested
+1 if anyone has a dvd copy. I lent mine out and never got it back T
