1. Been curious lately having noticed weeks going by without CV Precisions even being mentioned. Seems not that long ago that almost every other day, someone had one for sale, or was buying one, or just generally dicussing the pro's / con's of them. But lately, they havn't even been mentioned at all (until today as an also- ran in another thread). Has the love just dropped off or are they just out of fashion now ? have they stood the test of time and been revealed to be as good as every first thougth they were ? Just a thought. What do you think ? (BTW enjoy the gig if you've got one tonight) T
2. Forgive me for coming back to this point and apologies to the OP for wandering off topic , but I was under the impression that CV's have Seymour Duncan's of some description in them at birth. Is this not the case ? or are they SD's under license ? inferior ? etc ? Just asking....
3. I have compared two basses of the same model, one with a basswood body and one with an alder body. The basswood was a little lighter and sounded a little 'cleaner' in comparison to the alder, which sounded a little warmer. Both resonated equally well, but there was an acoustic difference at the end of the day. Sorry if that's not particularly helpful in a decision making process, just my 2p. T
4. Hold your head up by Argent, Whole lot of Love Led Zep and Rubber Bullets by 10cc for the first performance on bass.
5. If that deal falls through I'll have it ! And PM'd
6. There was a link somewhere around here about the subtle differences between the strings in the DR range. That was an interesting read which opened my eyes a bit on this topic.
7. Peavey MK IV amp for £60.00 It's heavy for sure, but it produces a full sound that's easy to shape and tailor to the circumstances. Also renowned for being ultra reliable. I'd like to get an American Eden WT400 at some point, just for the ease of carrying, but I'll always have the Peavey mk IV as a back - up.
8. I almost plunged headlong into a deal for an Ampeg SVT 4, until I came to my senses with the realisation that I havn't done a gig for years and years that's needed that much power. Don't need to blast down walls to have an ampeg sound. What was I thinking ? Damn GAS !
9. Had to pull out due to a Baldrick moment of my own. Doh ! Have a bump for a fantastic bargain for such a lot of amp
10. Looking forward to seeing more on this one
11. Hit the road Jack is sorted with keys as is Little Richard
12. Wonder why he'd playing in C# up nearer the 12th rather than hanging around frets 4/5/6 etc ?
13.
Not the hardest but one that took a long time to get right, and still my fave bass line try it, great sence of achivement when you get it right, that little bit at 1:57 bouncing of the root throws you a bit as its hard to hear whats going on at first, the more you listen the more you find Enjoy. Stevie Wonder - For Once In My Life........james Jamerson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imsB543zqSM...;feature=fvwrel
+1, a cracking bass line.
14.
I remember learning the baselines to the whole of the 'Cupid & Psyche' album by Scritti Politti in the 1980's. Learning the keyboard bass on my bass guitar really hey me away from my usual 'Grid patterns' on the fingerboard. I also remember figuring out the baseline to 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. A great 12 minutes of grooving with a main figure that has your fingers moving around the fingerboard, and loads of syncopated baselines throughout the track. Great fun. On fact, I'm off to play along with it again right now!!!
Oh Yes ! Welcome to the Pleasuredome is HUGE fun. Set some James Brown up after and suddenly, where did the time go ? Also good to be reminded of Bet your Love again. Forgot that one
15.
Chromatic Fantasy and Donna Lee by Jaco... Had to learn them both for my undergrad final recital and provide my own accompaniment (loop pedal!). Ball ache is an understatement. Couldn't find a decent video of Chromatic Fantasy, but here's Donna Lee.
Now that's a challange !
16. This one. Still havn't busted it yet. Why ? just for the challenge !
17. Listening to this as I'm playing it for a wake tonight. Watching it too !! (oh, Catherine Bach )
18. Do you have the keys doing the stabs ? (or is that you stabbing the guitarist ?)
19. Saw EWAF at Wembley. One of the most entertaining acts I've ever seen
20. The four basses I've tried from the RW series are also very resonant in my experience, very much on par with any hand made bass I've ever played and a great deal better than many other basses. Add that to the playability and the secondhand price and that's it for me. I must admit I struggled with the looks at first, even after I'd parted with the cash and had one on the stand at home. But over time, I came to realise that the playability of the instrument wins hands down in the long run for me. Just keep picking them up ! Still may refinish them at some point though, but I'm only prepared to do that as I'm convinced I won't be selling any of them !
21.
IF I decide to sell I'll PM you first before updating the thread. I should point out I'm heading off on holiday early next week and probably won't make a decision until I come back (week beginning 2nd May).
S'appreciated, thanks. Hope you enjoy the break ! CHeers
22. very handy to know, thank you
23. If you do decide to sell rather than trade I'd be interested in the price
