1. Hi - This excellent book about the legendary James Jamerson up for sale including the 2 cds. Used but pretty good condition. £15 including (UK) postage.
2. Peavey Foundation Fretless bass guitar up for sale - £175. It’s a really excellent instrument – made in the USA with a superb maple neck and rosewood fretboard, the scale length is 34”. The neck is fitted to the body like Fender guitars, with a four bolt mounting plate and it has a microtilt adjustment. The bass is fretless, and it has fret markers set into the rosewood fingerboard. The electrics are as on a Fender Jazz bass with two passive pickups each with a volume control and an overall passive tone control. The bass dates to 1995 from the serial number (08779861), and it’s a really good player, the weight is nice & easy at 3.6 kilos, and the neck has a lovely feel to it. It has hardly any marks on it at all - almost like new. A really good example of a guitar that's nearly 20 years old, the machine heads are all good, and the neck and fretboard are straight and true with no marks or wear. I’m up in Morecambe near Lancaster, and you’re welcome to come over & see & try the bass before buying, alternatively I do go over to Rochdale pretty well every week for a couple of days now so you could see it there.
3. What a gorgeous pair of Sadowskys!!!!
4. I had this up for sale last year but withdrew it - now re advertising at a lower price of £1100. I’m looking to sell, not trade. The bass is an American Standard Precision, in three colour sunburst finish, with highly figured maple front and back, gold hardware, special edition logo on rear of headstock and a neck mounting plate confirming it is number 315 of 500 worldwide The Fender Advertising Script was as follows:- “1996 marked the 50th Anniversary of the Fender company (1946-1996), and in celebration Fender produced a limited edition anniversary series of the following instruments (Bracketed figures show the total number of instruments made):- 50th American Standard Precision Bass (500) 50th American Standard Jazz Bass (500) 50th American Standard Jazz Bass V String (500) 50th American Standard Stratocaster (2,500) 50th American Standard Stratocaster Left Handed (250) 50th American Standard Telecaster (1,250) Text from the 1996 Fender press release: Exclusive features on these once in a lifetime instruments include: Gold plated American Standard hardware, highly figured maple veneer top and back, Antique Sunburst finish, Vintage pickups and electronics, White plastic parts, Black tolex vintage case with orange plush interior and a vintage Fender nameplate. In addition, each model is equipped with a specially engraved neck mounting plate with the Fender 50th Anniversary logo and limited edition serial numbering (i.e., 1 of 2,500). A definite must for every collection!” The P bass has the tags, cleaning cloth, truss rod adjuster, owners manual, specifications booklet, guitar case keys, (also a pair of gold plated Schaller Strap Lock fittings, as the guitar comes with gold straplock buttons on it). It comes in the correct black tolex Fender logo'd rectangular case. The bass is in almost mint condition and, regardless of being a limited issue, is a really excellent bass to play, with a lovely neck, through body stringing, and a great tone – it has the full, deep, solid sound that I have always found with good quality Precisions. There are photos below the advert, but this is a link to some bigger & high quality pictures. 5. Hope it was a good night for you at The Institute. You're welcome to come round to try the Gibson - just give me a ring on 0778 070 6991 to arrange if you would - or text me & I'll ring back. I'm here (Morecambe) till tomorrow early evening - then I'm off to Rochdale for two or three days. Cheers, Geoff
6. Good evening! Just got back & spotted your post - had the kitchen scales out and I make it 3.75 kilos. Whereabouts in the North West are you? Geoff
7. In red metallic finish, my vintage Gibson guitar all in good working order and in original condition with some marks & wear to the paintwork - see photos . It has two Zebra humbuckers giving a really great rich and full sound, but not muddy at all. All the controls are working fine and it has a nice true neck with a rosewood fretboard. The serial number 83512594 dates it to 1982. These were made by Gibson in the USA from 1980 to 1984. It has a bolt on neck, tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece, 24.75” scale, a rosewood fretboard and Gibson machine heads - you get a lot for your money – a Made In USA Gibson with humbuckers and the looks of a Les Paul. The guitar comes with the pictured rectangular hard case – not made by Gibson, but it’s very strong and protective, and a decent strap.
8. Hi - just sold a Peavey Foundation USA bass to Benedict - top bloke, good communication, prompt payment. Deal with confidence!!
9. I've used MyHermes OK lots of times but I know they don't cover instruments, & was suprised to hear all of the above - it's a really handy service in that you can take the parcel when it suits you to a local My Hermes Parcelshop rather than waiting for it to be picked up. So it's Parcelforce 48 for me with extra insurance.
10. Hi Gary, That's a great looking bass, man. Thanks for the offer, but I'm either going to sell the bass, or, if I were to swap, it would be for a semi acoustic "jazz" style guitar. Thanks again for the offer.
11. A jolly May Bank Holiday bump to all.................
12. Cheers Cosmo - You see, if buy this, you'll be able to play like Roger Glover.............
13. Well done - but never mind all that - thanks to Balcro for the link to the Fender manual that I've now downloaded & saved - excellent, and thanks again!!!!!!
14. A happy Easter Saturday bump to you all...................
15. Hey there - a subject dear to my heart. I think that moving mags on is a great idea - they are horribly expensive at around the £5 mark, and are still perfectly readable/enjoyable/informative even when read months or years alter. I got some from another member here - and when I did, the main cost, is, as Ray has laid out, the mad cost of Royal Mail postage now. 5 mags come in at about 2 kilos, and the only cheap way is, in my opinion, to use My Hermes - that way you can still drop the parcel off at a local My Hermes shop of your choice - a bit like going to a post office - and you get a receipt & could shave a few quid off a 2 kilo parcel within regular UK postcodes and you can get "signed for" facility as well if you want. It's a pity that there couldn't be a central depot/library for all the mags, or, perhaps a "you send me yours & I'll send you mine" arrangement......but if everyone is buying Bassist, then you would all be trying to swap the same mags. There must be a way round this.............
